Loreena Mckennit is wonderful but this version of the Mummers Dance is eclipsed by her performance of this song live at Alhambra, Spain in 2006. In my opinion, her concert in Spain was the best performance I have ever seen. A must see!
There might have been other reasons; artistic or monetary reasons. But from a strictly business standpoint, Loreena really blew a chance to have her music immortalized in a movie epic that will inspire people for generations to come. Only Loreena herself knows what kind of vanity prevented her from accepting this commission. It would have raised her profile immeasurably and permanently.
The reason's never been made public, but I can only assume it had to do with scheduling. I can't imagine she'd turn it down because she didn't want to do it. She'd already written a song that could easily be taken as Frodo's point of view, "Penelope's Song" from "An Ancient Muse".
Hello. I was using the term vanity in an abstract sense - just whatever self-indulgence she had that prevented her from conceding or flexing or compromising to work with the LotR people. I've been to one of her concerts. In addition to having an exquisite voice so enchanting she needs no supporting band at all, and her comments and musings on things and events in the world between songs, she's someone I'd love to have lunch with. No grudge, but I've heard she's fairly controlling / demanding.
Of course Loreena has fans. But had she found a way to get her music as part of the tapestry of Lord of the Rings, she would have her signature associated with an epic achievement in film making that will be remembered for decades, until such a time as someone comes along to re-make or re-boot the movies and their relationship to the books. I like both Enya & Loreena. In terms of talent Loreena is significantly the greater, It remains a great pity that LotR was not one of her canvases.
You really want to drag this out. Fine. *Many* people hoped and expected that her Celtic music would have some representation in the LotR epic. It seemed a perfect fit. Regarding her schedule and goals, I could as easily ask you the same question. What do you know? All you're doing is passing of your non-knowledge of her goals as some kind of support of her artistic freedoms. What Enya has now in terms of fame and adoration, Loreena could have. She's is not perfect, she's human and blew it.
It's pretty unpleasant of you to assume the reason was vanity. Have you got some kind of grudge against her? Her career belongs to her, and she's free to make whatever decisions she wants.
Good gods, what a weird idea you have about musicians. So now they don't have a right to decide for themselves what their careers will be like? If they don't do what YOU want, they're ruining their careers? Even if their careers are going great? Wow. It must be very strange to think the world revolves around your personal opinions. Still, though, you're pretty funny.
So because she didn't do something with HER career that you wanted her to, she's self-indulgent? Have you considered that you don't actually know anything about her work schedule, her goals, or what SHE wants to do with HER career? And oh gods, how horrid that an artist wants to control her work, and is demanding. How utterly unreasonable to want your work to be as you want to present it. Christ, it's fans like you that give the rest of us a bad name.
LOLOL. Oh yeah, because Enya is so much more successful. Because Loreena has no fans at all, and no success. I guess that's why she keeps releasing records that sell big and doing tours all over the world. You're so cute.

I feel it in the water..
I feel it in the earth..
I smell it in the air..
Só a massa de music.para quem entende.]
I think Proff. Tolkien would have liked this music with his Great work!
We fight over a bloody ring

Everybody fights for a reason
Ah, no! Has that one been taken down? Noooo, I loved that one :'(
This one wasn't bad tho
not bad.
not bad at all.
pretty good music video.
Loreena was actually Jackson's first choice. They approached Enya only after Loreena turned them down.
Wsn’t Loreena asked to do the music for LOTR but she had to refuse because of conflicts?
I think i have a message to Treebeard.
What is your fight about
and all the horses fell off the edge of the earth
you are a dream
woulda shit my pants if they played this in ES or zelda

it seems like fantasy but it isnt
Ron Duda was good once . Just not today .
