One of the most reliable bulletproof setups, dont change a thing Honda! I love how Honda is the only manufacturer out there that holds on to what works instead of flooding the market with all kinds of electronic new this and that that ends up broken and lack of warranty help. Just like the Ruckus, same since 2003 and still a blast and does the job. Honda will sell every recon they produce even in its basic form. I had s 250 ex for 15 years and had to replace the battery twice an amazing platform that Im sorry I sold it definitely getting a recon or another 250ex to go with my ruckus and Monkey👍
i had a recon 13 years great quad plan on gettin another
Sad thing is can’t even buy a 250 recon in Canada Honda quit selling them here quite a few years ago. Same goes for Rincon
@@philipjean1086 that stinks i had 2 recons one for atleast 13 years simple fun and slways ran great
4x4 version of the recon would be nice and then those mud tires on it would be more useful 😂
lol maybe just a little bit ;)
At that point might as well just get a rancher 😂
Rite I just bought some big mud tires for mine not even 4x4
Though the Recon may be rated at 500lbs towing capacity, they can easily tow double that. Just slowing down is a little harder
Love my 2011 Recon ES 250. It's always been 100% reliable.
I have five ATVs are all 250 except for a 350 and they're all two-wheel drive because they're short wheelbase they're lightweight and I get stuck and fast on the trail . One is a 250 recon ,and I hardly ever get stuck by the way, you can fit on Tight Trails , I'm just doing basic point-to-point riding and driving at seems to do very very well.
I mounted the Kolpin front and rear cargo carriers to my sons 2019 Recon, fit perfect. Thinking of adding a skid plate.
Nice! Kolpin makes some nice stuff.
Bought a 2024 today.
The Recon has always been good and reliable since they first came out.
Second Recon.
im interested in getting one, how tall are you? does it ever feel to small? Im 5'8 just want something to mess around in the yard on from time to time
@@GARYIZRAW
I have 125 acres of land.
I’m 53 so I’m not trying to impress or keep up with the jones’.
I’m 6’0 and 215 lbs.
I ride my recon and it has all the power I need. I use it just getting around.
I’ve been through creeks, mud holes and timber cuts.
I’ve had no incidents of getting stuck.
It has plenty of power for an older guy.
I did mount a phone holder on it.
I put a speedometer app on my phone so I know it goes about 50mph.
The size, it gets through the small areas where the big ones won’t.
If I do get stuck, I can get it out by myself.
I hope this helps.
I love it.
@@_Access_Denied_101 helps a ton thankyou! I need your land lol I only have 7 acres. Finna turn 30 but can give this to my son when he is ready
@@GARYIZRAW that’s also a great thing about it, they hold their value and are a perfect beginner Atv.
The first recon I bought was back in the 90’s.
I put it through much tougher and it lasted and never gave me any problems.
In my opinion, you can’t go wrong.
I think you sold me brother… South GA isn’t a great place to be on FB marketplace for a 4-wheeler. I just want a reliable beer cruiser that i can load up on weekends when I’m able to get up to the country. Looks pretty decent with the little baby lift and tires too. Thanks brother great video 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
had a 250, loved it. i love stripped down basic stuff. My truck has no power nothing, on purpose.
I had a raptor, and liked it, but had A Lot more fun with the recon.
We have a recon, rancher, and rubicon (and used to have a foreman). The recon is our yard bike. It pulls trailers around our property with brush, chainsaw/weedeater, tools, and such. You leave it idling without worry and its always reliable. Starts so quick with the slightest touch of the button except... If its sat for 3+ weeks it won't start. It will happily spin and spin and you can fuss the choke and it won't make a difference. However, a brief shot of starting fluid in the airbox and it will fire immediately after a long nap. We love the utility of the bike. I like its light weight to be able to move it around when needed. My daughter rides it because its not intimidating. My light weight sister has taken it through swamp woods and kept up with our 4x4 bikes amazingly. EFi is what it needs to make it the perfect bike.
Just got the same atv and color with es. Have a fsi rancher on deposit at a dealer thats supposed to come in mid dec.. loving the recon soo far. Wish it was footshift but fingers crossed on the es not crapping. Out.
I bought a red one this year. Manual shift.....it's fun to ride opposed to a automatic. Muffler is loud. Can't mess with success......only thing I wish it had was a pull start option.
Great Quad bought 2004 model and is worth about the same as when I bought it don’t use it much but hard to sell it because of all the great memories me and daughter had riding when she was growing up. I put wide bear claw tires in rear and not to many places a light driver can’t go we’re a 4x4 can . I’d say leave it as is and it sure hasn’t changed much in 17 years
the backup pull starter saved me a few times its a shame they eliminated it…. fuel inj. would be a tremendous improvement
btw great video
Same here, I've had that get me out of a pinch on more than once occasion. I'm guessing they are doing this so there wasn't a price increase for the other changes that were made and they can make it up on the backend in accessory money but still... Not a good move but I won't complain too much since you can throw it back on there. However, I think the other move of getting rid of the gear position indicator is a bigger mistake as you can't just throw it back on there. I'd really love to talk to the people that know the details behind these decisions, it'd be cool to know their thought process behind it and why they did this versus that and what research was put into the decision etc. The normal Honda reps don't know though and getting to someone high enough that does is a pipe dream lol so I'll have to continue being curious for the time being on so many of these topics. Oh yeah, fuel injection is much needed! I'm still surprised we haven't seen it yet but if I were a betting man I'd say it's because the Recon is sold in a lot less locations around the world when compared to other models so it's probably not high up on their priority list if the USA is its main consumer.
Thanks Mike! As always I really appreciate the kind words and support...
@@HondaProKevin np keep up the great info/ videos
Great video. I might buy one of these if I can’t get my Bruin 250 going again. 250 2WD is all I want in a four wheeler. They should be small, easy to get unstuck and be simple. I can’t stand how big some of them are. I farm and use four wheelers to check if hay is ready to bale, to sort cattle in the pasture and other small farm chores. I need to be able to get it unstuck by myself and be able to load it myself to take to another farm miles away. Yamaha got out of this market. The 450 Kodiak is too big and heavy. Heading to the Honda dealership.
Keep the 250 but just add four-wheel-drive to it and this is perfect for a beginner or youngster.
I have one with rancher tires and wheels. Would like to see fuel injection and an oil filter
It would be hard for me to own an ATV without 4WD but I guess when it is a little smaller and lighter it is not so bad. The older I get when I see that straight axle it makes my bones ache a little. LOL. I like my IRS. Great Vid!
Oh yeah, it's definitely a special scenario where this type of ATV would be feasible at the end of the day but like you said, it's not so bad because of it's size. You'd be surprised where you can go with a lightweight 2WD ATV but there's no denying you have to be careful if you want to head out by yourself, it's no fun getting stuck and hoping someone comes by that can pull you out lol. You can't beat having the extra "insurance" of 4WD when you're out in the middle of nowhere!
lol I'm right there with you bud! 15 years ago I was like "who needs IRS?" but the older I get and now that I'm creeping up on 40, I'll 100% take IRS over a SRA any day of the week! Even if you can't slide it around and have as much fun, my back thanks me the next day after a long ride!
As always GR, thank you for the support!
Best 4 wheeler every made..we hv a 2020 we bought new.. goin to buy the 2022 this week. Maybe make a 4x4 n 2wd version. Stay under 6500$
My dad rides a 1999 fourtrax 300, i ride a 2002 recon. I routinely drive the 300.
Though I love the 300 for it’s power and 4wd, the turning radius makes it a hard sell on very tight trails. The recon fits and turns so much better.
The perfect Honda ATV (for me) would be a 300 engine with selectable 2wd/4wd, with EFI, and actual gauges or screens for speedometer, distance and gears. But let’s be honest, then it wouldn’t be Honda
Oh yeah, those old 300s will make a make a man out of you cranking the bars back and forth in tight trails lol! They are absolutely bulletproof units though and still highly sought after.
You hit the nail on the head for what I think would be a massive selling ATV for Honda! If only they'd actually build it though...
I hope they add liquid cooling as an option
I would love to see a 4x4 Recon 250 same size bike, Make it a straight axle 4x4.
Maybe even threw in some old Honda 300 Fourtrax technology.!
I have a 2014 and love it. It’s bullet proof and the size is perfect. It is underpowered though. If a 4x4 version was to be offered it would have to be bumped up in power. But then they would make it bigger undoubtedly. Then you might as well get the rancher. So I feel some minor upgrades could still keep it simple and affordable. First no matter what keep the wheel base and size as it is. Give it a little more power. Not enough to put it in another size category but enough to help it. Give it l.e.d. headlights and taillight. Upgrade the brakes to disc brakes front and back. Upgrade wheels to fit a 23” tire. Stiffen up the suspension a bit.
I think these things would improve it greatly and keep it affordable and make it even more desirable.
You hit the nail on the head bud!
@Justin Cottingham try and Exhuast and bigger jet may give you more power
What would you say are the main differences between this recon and the sport version 250? Is the clutch easy to use on the sport or is it just a pain in the butt and stay with recon?
I'd really love to see Honda bring back the TRX300FW.
100%!
I was incredibly sad to see the gear position indicator was removed as well. Dealer said it was due to supplychain from covid
The fly just sitting there
Are the front wheels different than the rear? Sorry if I missed it. Thanks for the videos, extremely helpful!
Yessir, they have different offsets from front to rear.
Thank you for the kind words and support, I really appreciate it!
Lightweight 250s are much easier to push and roll around out of your way in a garage without having to start them up, if you had the disassembly move them in and out or a short distance
I'd really like to see this upgraded with the efi engine from the crf 300l.
Part of me thinks 2wd only is an omission but realistically its probably just perfect for the intended market.
That would be like a modern fourtrax 300
100%! It would definitely bring this ATV into the current century and open up a lot more sales as they could offer it in more countries where this one can't be sold and this offering a 2x4 and 4x4 model would increase them tenfold again.
Where's i buy one?
I have 2017 with the shift indicator es model which I love! The carb is what I prefer over the fuel injection because one reason if the battery goes dead your stuck in the woods! You will not start a fuel injection model with a dead battery! So start walking!!!
I have a Rancher 420 4x4 and a Recon and I love the Recon can literally run with no battery. Suppose to be bad for the voltage regulator that charges the battery but I like knowing in an emergency it’ll work. If my Rancher has a loose battery connection it’ll die as soon as that battery connection is severed. Also the Recon motors are very receptive to performance mods where you can put a 500cc piston in the rancher with intake and exhaust upgrades and get no hp increase and 1lb ft torque on the Dyno increase.
4x4 recon would be awesome
Yeaaaah buddy!
Want ONEso bad .
I like the red
what wheels and rims are those i need to know
What winch is that? Just bought a 2021 recon and I want the winch lol.
Is there no gas gauge?
Will a 04 rear end be compatible with a 07?
ya know I think I'd be fine without 4x4 even tho I use it on my Rubicon all the time. Only thing I would change is it needs EFI, better breaks, and MAKE IT A 300! I'd buy 2 lol
Lol I know, come on Honda... build it!
This place got an upgrade from when I was there
Yeah buddy, their new building is AWESOME!
Definitely need a 4x4 version
They had a 300 4x4, but I think they wont do a 250 4x4 because the lack of power.
Oh nice! Cool little 4 wheeler. But drums in the front? Wait till those get wet
Oh yeah, the lift kit paired up with some larger wheels and tires with Honda's new design tweaks definitely makes it a cool little ATV for sure! lol yessir, I brought enough negativity into this video so I didn't want to harp on the brakes too but that's another thing Honda could definitely stand to upgrade in the future. Most people won't ever run into any real issues there as they don't turn these into submarines like the 4x4 models but still... it's almost 2022 and we need to banish all drum brakes lol!
Thanks as always for the support Kyle! Much appreciated bud ;)
@@HondaProKevin keep up the good work!
Perfect for my 9 year old boy
EFI AND NO RECOIL STARTER IS A NO GO FOR ME. WOULD RATHER GET AN OLDER ONE. LOOKING NOW.
EFI, IRS and 4x4 would be the perfect small bike
100%!
But would you pay $6500 for a 250 4x4 irs because that is inline with their pricing structure. Most people probably would pass.
@@spyder000069 well I would pay for any one of those upgrades. 6500 hundred does seem high on your estimate I paid 4200 for my recon in 2019. I would still like to see it happen
Was the winch difficult to install..? I ordered it and the mounting plate..?
Do I need the Honda harness extension or will the winch come with the wiring needed..?
Honestly, you do a better job with the videos than Honda does with some of their toys, 10 fold. I hope that isnt too harsh for the Honda executives. .... Honda is Honda.. thats all you can say for these and its also why these arent as competitive as they could be in the current market. Brand loyalty only goes so far. Ask Harley if you don't think that's so
I've been trying my best to improve these videos over the last few months so thanks a million for the kind words, I really appreciate it bud! Seriously, thank you...
You hit the nail on the head! Fingers crossed they pull something out of their sleeves sometime within the next decade that will put them back up near the top where they should be. It's not that they aren't making great machines by any means but there are corners of the segment and certain aspects on units they are leaving wide open and it really makes you wonder why. I mean, this is Honda we're talking about. I'm not hating on them as clearly I love the brand, it's been my world for many many years but that doesn't mean we can't change some things for the better!
Keep the Recon the same size physically just add another 50cc and 4x4 with in and out switch .. and IRS ... 🙂👍
The 250cc engine would be to underpowered with 4x4, thus why Honda only did it to the 350cc and up models.
what kind of winch is on the four wheeler
It's a Warn winch.
Honestly i saw this same atv at a bike shop me and my mom was browsing in the store and we saw this one now we use a different tipe of currency is uhh rand so the thing was lets say 27,000 rand i think its somthing in the thousand for america but it was second handed
Always cool hearing from people around the world so thanks for sharing!
They need to add speedometer, odometer and a trip meter.
100%!
Are all honda atv's made in NC now??? 4 wheelers!!
People think Recons are worth their weight in gold nowadays. Used to be I could find a decent Recon for $1000-1500. Ironically enough, the Ozark 250 has outclassed and outpriced it in the used market, and the old Bayou's have settled the bottom end market. Recons are great but they're not $3000 (ab)used great. When buying new it makes more sense to get a base model Rancher, or a rare lightly used one instead.
I keep seeing the bayou cheap. I have the Ozark n love it to death. Probably never get rid of her. But the buyou should I buy?
Its like Honda Civic of the Honda Atv’s the Rubicon is like the Honda Accord
lol I like that analogy! However, I'd say the Recon is more like the Honda Fit and the Rancher is like the Civic while the Accord is the Rubicon ;)
Don't know where we squeeze the Foreman in there though lol!
Why they don't utilize a digital cluster on the ES is beyond me. It's 2021 man.
100%!
Would easily pay 1000 more
What kind of winch is installed on this recon
It's a Warn VRX 25 on this setup. Here's a link to it on Amazon: amzn.to/3mHmh6T
@@HondaProKevin ok I appreciate the info, looking to put one on my 2020
What lift did you use
High Lifter ;)
Ok thanks I know it was a dumb question after realizing it was in the description
I just want to help by making a comment good luck 👍
Appreciate the support Don ;)
Rincon 1000cc coming soon
Still gonna buy a renegade 🤷🏼♂️
Does the recon have pull start?
N Tan.
I Shia they would put fuel injection on them I have a 2020 recon
I agree!
Fuel injection would ruin the recon it’s built for reliability the carb fits the bill
Give it a fuel injected engine & bump it up to 300 cc , And I say it would be a done deal .
100%! The only other thing I'll add is throw a 4x4 model option in there too and BAM, the Recon is selling like hotcakes again!
@@HondaProKevin I would bet so! And then ad the gear lights back and You're talking Dang near Perfect!
If Honda made the recon 4x4 they would sell the fire out of them for 2 years and then no one buy anymore cause those machines are straight tanks
is it for kids?
"Technically" this model is recommended for people 16 and older. However, a lot of people buy them for their kids. This thing is pretty peppy and can turn into a 450lb sledge hammer real quick so keep that in mind when thinking about whether or not your kid can handle it safely ;)
The Recon 250 definitely has enough power for an adult rider.
They need to make them with disk brakes, the drums are garbage
Oh yeah, Honda needs to pile up all of those drum brakes they have stored and throw them in the garbage so all future models have to have discs lol!
@@HondaProKevin also they need to get up to date with fuel injection on the smaller atvs. even the youth models of polaris have fuel injection
Why the hell is a brand new atv burning oil?
I had the choke on ;)
@@HondaProKevin Hmmm... Last time I checked, the choke doesn't add any oil to the combustion chamber ;)
I'm not a tech, so take what I say with a grain of salt lol. From my experience of selling these the last 15 years, 9 out of 10 times any carbed unit I've done a cold start on with the choke results in some smoke. Again, I'm not a tech but I'm thinking it's from the excess fuel making it run rich.
@@HondaProKevin I suppose, but neither of my Recons (a first and second gen) smoked with the choke on. You are correct that the choke richens the fuel ratio, but the fuel should still burn clear. If your floor units really do smoke like that with the choke on, then perhaps it is actually because the rings haven't fully seated yet since it's a brand new engine. Thanks for your time, and that Recon does look really cool with that lift and bigger tires 👍
so sexy bike !!!
Air cooled in 2021 no thanks
My Recon 250 is 11 years old. Never had any problems with it. Being air cooled makes it a very low maintenance machine. Happy Trails!!!!
Mine is 23 years old; finally the stator went out. No probs otherwise. Picking up a 2022 tomorrow. Gonna fix the 1999 for a backup.
👍🇵🇱🇵🇱👍😏😀😎😉
Thanks Marcin, much appreciated!
Front drums... Gross 🤢
lol yeah buddy, it could definitely stand to see some updates here and there and discs up front is one of them for sure!
Hey it might be to late would you recommend this or a brute force 300? Same price
Will a 04 rear end be compatible with a 07?
