Doom 3 is an excellent and coherent horror game and spin on the original Doom universe. It shouldn’t be compared to the other entries on grounds of pure action, but treated as its own distinct concept as it is doing something different, and in that regard, it’s a classic.

There isn't as much versatility with them like how Quake is like with the amount of new base game levels and online multilayer across all modern devices for example, but honestly that's just a testament to how godly Nightdive Studios is. Doom 64 though oddly enough doesn't even have any add-ons even with that also being developed by Nightdive, so that's a little strange. They did at the very least add a few more new levels for it, so that's better than no new levels at all. Anyways, I think Doom and Doom II are still worth buying on PC even when other source ports exist since they often go for dirt cheap anyways. I think for consoles in particular though it's great with the addition of add-ons. Seeing fan made content being more accessible to everyone in an official manner is always a treat, and can give a taste for more people to understand that there is indeed a modding scene. Doom 64 is much in the same boat but without the add-ons, and many people regard it as the "real" Doom 3. (Myself included) As for Doom 3 itself, it's my least favorite of the main Doom games, but it's still actually pretty good. I'm not exactly sure where it fits canonically anymore, but I'd like to imagine that it is a prequel unrelated to Doomguy himself before the original. It’s kinda like with the Star Wars prequels: They came it after and are supposed to be seen after, but they technically take place before some of the other events in-universe. I'm not sure if that's 100% accurate or not, but considering that Doom 64 now canonically takes place before Dom 2016, I'd imagine it's something along those lines. That or it really does take place between Doom 64 and Doom 2016 but with a completely different group, which is equally as possible. Regardless of canon though, my recommended order of playing them for the newcomers is Doom 1993 > Sigil (Maybe) > Doom II > Doom 64 > Doom Zero (Maybe) > Doom 3 > Doom 2016 > Doom Eternal. And if you wanna throw the original Quake into the equation since that's now out everywhere, then you could probably fit it between Doom 64 or Zero and Doom 3 to help transition the graphical jump. And then maybe Quake II alongside it as well assuming that also ever gets the remaster treatment.
Personally, I'd argue on two points: 1. The Super Shotgun being that good of a weapon. Sure, it is effective in some scenarios; but ammo consumption and reloading speed makes it painful and generally not fun to use, at least for me. 2. Doom II having the same feeling as Doom I. No, sir. Sure, it looks somewhat similar, but it feels very different. I actually was disappointed when I tried DOOM II. All I've heard about that game was "It's basically the same, but more". I was expecting the same feeling as DOOM I and I've never experienced it from the sequel.
Thanks for watching bruv I can fully see where you’re coming from on those points. the SSG definitely doesn’t compare to the OG shotgun when it comes to that range sweet spot but for a less methodical player (aka not very skilled 😅) the SSG is a great gun for the “run into room, shoot first , ask questions later” kinda player lol And ya doom II’s levels aren’t as consistent as Dooms I can agree with that , I think just cause it’s the one I played the most by far as a kid that made me love it so much . I appreciate your comment friend and thank you again for checkin out the video 🙏💪💯🤘

Yeah, I always felt the same way about the Super Shotgun. Everyone talks about how the Super Shotgun is basically their main weapon when playing Doom II. I've always been like: "Um, nah. It's extremely ineffective at a distance and it eats up ammo at double the rate." In Doom 2, the pump shotgun and chaingun are still my main weapons. For me, the Super Shotgun is used as a power weapon - similar to the rocket launcher, plasma rifle, or BFG. I only use it to deal with large crowds of low tier enemies that are crowded together (and I'm firing from extremely close-range) or when I encounter a 'heavy' enemy like a Baron of Hell, Arachnotron, Mancubus, Arch Vile, etc (and I'm firing from extremely close range). Basically, the Super Shotgun is like my 'close-range rocket launcher'. I inflict the damage of a rocket, but don't have to worry about splash damage. Sorry for the wall of text.

I can agree with that! It would fit better in more of a franchise collection rather than a classics collection since a lot of people would agree with you the classic age ended with 64. Appreciate the comment bruv thank you 🙏
Agreed. No Doom fans consider Doom 3 to be part of the 'classic Doom' era. 'Classic Doom' is Doom/Ultimate Doom, Doom II, and Doom 64. And 'modern Doom' is Doom 2016, Eternal, and The Dark Ages. Doom 3 was it's own thing entirely, all by itself.
Totally worth it. It's better than any call of duty game and 1000% better than fortnite. I sucked so bad playing this on my computer as a kid and never got to beat it. Now that i'm older and wiser, it's an absolute gem. The level design is actually pretty good, even if it is confusing as hell sometimes.
Surprisingly in this “Classics collection” put out by limited run they definitely only give you the base game of Doom3 which is kinda dumb because I have bought the BFG edition on a separate occasion and it totally includes lost mission and RoE. Not too sure why they didn’t include it this time around ! Sucks cause I love the DLC’s and the shotty it adds. Thanks for the comment bruv 🙏🤘💯💪
I looked into this because TBH I had already bought the digital versions before the physical and it turns out LIMITED RUN screwed up and put the “bethesda.net” sign in versions of the game on disc . The way of the OG my friend 💪✅🤘 that’s awesome I recently had to get doom 2 on IOS and I love playing it whenever I have a free 5 minutes for a level 😃
Yeah, it is pretty lame how any monster infighting you see in Doom 2016 or Eternal is purely scripted. And if you watch them long enough, you'll notice they can't actually kill each other like in classic Doom. The demons just blast away at each other forever. The way the game is coded, only the player character can cause damage to the demons. Definitely disappointing, despite how great both 2016 and Eternal are otherwise.
Pity there's no lighting in this version. Seriously, what is the point of playing doom at full brightness? It's like you're wearing those goggles you can pickup in the game.
Thanks for the comment but would you mind elaborating ??? There was definitely still what seemed like the regular DOOM lighting while playing …. They included the part where they cut the lights out and the imp monster closet opens in the dark and there definitely some other levels with almost completely dark areas. But you are right that it looks really bright - if you try wearing the goggles in this version is SUPER bright lol. Once again appreciate the comment bruv🙏🙏🤘
@@maltsutty the footage of E1M3 was really bright, as was E4M1 - Hell Beneath. The atart area in that map was waaaaay darker. Might’ve been the settings in the game on the console but yeah, on PC was heaps darker.
@@maltsutty Yeah I thought the footage looked brighter than it should be as well. It looks like the lighting was set to full bright, which is the highest possible light level (the light amplification goggles set the entire map you are on to full bright until they wear off).
After watching several videos from this channel, I strongly suspect that he's running his videos through an AI upscaler before uploading them. I see many indicators that he upscales his videos. But he's not very proficient with the upscaling software yet. I see little visual artifacts and errors here and there throughout his videos, which are the result of not being very skilled with the upscaling software. If you aren't proficient, upscaling software can distort the contrast and color temperature of videos as well, along with the other minor visual errors you'll get. I believe that is what caused the overly-bright footage.
@@maltsutty on the ps3 version it was usually in the lobby before you started the game. The ps4 version that came with 2016 doesn’t have it and it’s infuriating
Also, if you're worried about stuff like that, if you and your girlfriend have access to two separate computers, just get the Steam version for PC, and find a source port that works for multiplayer (Zandronum, Zdaemon, and Odamex seem to be the three most common multiplayer ports, my preference being the latter for being most similar to the behavior of the original .exe). Any of those three ports should have easy to use settings that can, among many other things, turn off friendly fire. I think they automatically detect a steam release of Doom, Doom II, or Final Doom, but if they don't, just copy the file C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Doom 2\Base\DOOM2.WAD into the directory the source port executable is in.

does the collection include all levels ever released??? i remember different ports like the xbox live arcade versions of doom 1 and/or 2 including never before released bonus levels and might have been exclusive to xbla. not sure what the bonus levels were called but i think microsoft referred to them as lost levels
DOOM 2016 is my favorite.
Doom 2016 is one helluva game 🔥🔥🔥✅🤘🤘🤘 it’s kinda what I expected Doom3 to look like and play but then we got the unique challenger of REAL DOOM 3😈
DOOM even now it is so playable.
I still play classic doom constantly! Sometimes a few levels then sometimes I’ll binge play all of them for weeks !!! Lol🤣🤘🔥💯 thanks for watching and commenting 🙏💪✅
The shotgun is why I will never play DooM 3. - I played it on release. I was hyped. I gave it a FAIR shot!! But I couldn't SHAKE the feeling something was wrong. and then I paid attention to the shotgun. I uninstalled and never looked back. The Shotgun is how you test an FPS game.
I absolutely agree and that’s why I didn’t play it for yeeeeears but I then had a doom3 craving for some reason and when I got past the sllllooooow opening it was a fun game ! Still I don’t blame ya for checkin out on it 😂😂
@@maltsutty It wasn't the slow opening. I didn't have a problem with the pacing. I had a problem with the Shotgun. Bad shotgun = bad game. period.
@@MontroseChloe I can definitely respect that 💯💯💯 they added in a super shotgun in the DLC but it also didn’t feel like a good SSG should 🤦♂️🤦♂️ plus I don’t ever see anyone talk much about the dlc 🤷♂️
Definitely agree with you, bro. Even though I enjoy Doom 3, I still think the Doom 3 shotgun is THE WORST shotgun in the history of video games.
Idk why they don’t put doom 64 in any of these collections
I agree , i wished it was in this one cause if I want the physical doom 64 it’s gotta be another limited run version which are always a bit more expensive
Literally could've said yes at the start,
And then say 'And Here's why'
I'm a firm believer in not giving 🤢 Limited Run 🤮 any money.
It’s been a minute since I made this video but ultimately I’d have to agree. Limited run dropped the ball on this one and any time I’ve interacted with them it’s been a less than positive experience
Next video coming is on the new doom1&2 package they released recently 🎉
@@maltsutty My issue with them is less about this port and more about them refunding, banning, and threatening to sue a customer for posting a meme about them. They also fired an employee for wanting to play Hogwarts Legacy. They're cut from the same cloth as SBI.
Thoughts on doom64?
slayers on switch only has doom 2016 all the others are codes. (but it still saves ~20GB...)
What would you prefer?? Code or discs ??
@@maltsutty i prefer physical everyday. unfortunately both doom(2016) and wolfenstein ii *require* a download to even function. in the case of doom they really should have made it optional as its just the multiplayer that is downloaded and since no one plays it, i could be saving an additional 8-10GB (if memory serves) if i wasnt forced to download it.
Doom 3 should not be part of the classic collection imo. It’s not the real doom 3, doom 64 is.
AND Now in VR!!! on the Quest 2
Wait I have Doom 3 on Switch and the RoE and Lost Mission campaigns are in that version. They're not on PS4?
Surprisingly in this “Classics collection” put out by limited run they definitely only give you the base game of Doom3 which is kinda dumb because I have bought the BFG edition on a separate occasion and it totally includes lost mission and RoE. Not too sure why they didn’t include it this time around ! Sucks cause I love the DLC’s and the shotty it adds.
Thanks for the comment bruv 🙏🤘💯💪
@@maltsutty Oh yeah that part slipped my mind haha. Anyways awesome perspective and I'll keep an eye out for your content!
I thought that the video was going to be you saying YES outloud for ten minutes long.
What if I don't have internet access can I still play the Doom one and two with the physical copy
I looked into this because TBH I had already bought the digital versions before the physical and it turns out LIMITED RUN screwed up and put the “bethesda.net” sign in versions of the game on disc . They then offered recall replacement discs with the proper version of DOOM1&2 .
So good question and be warned - sadly if you grab this copy you may need internet access to play🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Are you experiencing the ask to connect to PlayStation online bug
Think I'll just stick with my rips from the 90s and a boom based source port thanks.
question does the health kits have the red + sign if not it's not original.
is it possible to get the original doom games on ps5? i mean the versions from the original ps that had the Aubry Hodges soundtrack? i was going to buy a ps5 just to get it but from what ive seen its not available??
Desafortunadamente no.
Solo con mods en PC o un emulador en PC 💻
You should, but with correct aspect ratio...
I def gotta tweak it but I remember whatever that was set at was what looked the best on my tv. Definitely always looking to improve thiugh thanks bruv 🙏🙏🙏✅🔥🤘
@@maltsutty I play through ZDoom now, it can handle the aspect ratio well.
@@MichaTerajewicz ya since I’m gonna start recording pc footage for future doom vids I assume this will be sorted out , I use GZ and Zdoom too 🙏🔥💯✅✅🤘
Whoever made Doom IOS for Iphone and other touch screen devices is a freakin jerk. Some of the levels don't even have stairs for the poison pits in the level. It's like they want you not mess up on touch sensitive controls.
lol BRUV I had the same thoughts !!! Was playing doom 2 on iOS and loving it for a while then reached later levels that were clearly designed for precision control lol THE CHASM killed me
Should you still be playing Civilization 1? No. Should you still be playing classic Doom? Yes.
Doom>Civ all day long 24/7💪🔥
Is there ever a time NOT to play Doom?
Lol good question but I’d say no 😅😎😎😎
All of my laptops, all of my computers and any other devices I have ever own have had OG Doom installed on them.
The way of the OG my friend 💪✅🤘 that’s awesome I recently had to get doom 2 on IOS and I love playing it whenever I have a free 5 minutes for a level 😃
I hate how they gave up on demons infighting
Yeah, it is pretty lame how any monster infighting you see in Doom 2016 or Eternal is purely scripted. And if you watch them long enough, you'll notice they can't actually kill each other like in classic Doom. The demons just blast away at each other forever. The way the game is coded, only the player character can cause damage to the demons. Definitely disappointing, despite how great both 2016 and Eternal are otherwise.
bruh chill down its not 2023 yet
I’m trying to future proof some of my new videos lol. Don’t wanna have an outdated opinion in 2 months time 🤷♂️ thanks for the comment though bruv
@@maltsutty yea man i get it, nice vid ive enjoyed it!
Or you could just not put a year in the title at all…
Delta touch with a gamepad if you don't have a pc or console.
Had no idea this existed ! Thank you for the comment! I legitimately love how people will put DOOM on everything 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥💯💯💪
Would I ever!
Why no online multiplayer? The 360 version had it.
I can’t believe I didn’t mention that ! I think there is local multiplayer but ya I was kinda cheesed that I couldn’t play online
Zandronum the source port has it as well as Odamex and ZDaemon for online multiplayer support.
Yes.
Got it 75% off 😎
That’s all well and good, but is there a co op mode, and can I turn off friendly fire so my girlfriend doesn’t kill me when she thinks I’m a demon?
Just went and checked! There is indeed local co op AND deathmatch. Unsure of the friendly fire though as I haven’t actually tested it out personally.
@@Jackass_of_DOOM we’re kinda strictly console gamers, as it seems. Nothing for or against PC, it’s just been the most convenient way to play anything for both of us. Then we met and that’s how it goes. I got all the PlayStations, she has 90% of the Nintendo stuff (I have a Retron that plays NES and SNES games) so we have rooms dedicated to both companies I suppose
4:36 Sorry, dude... but that was so bad that I just had to click off the video.
10/10 amazing
I thrive on bad jokes 🤣😂🤣😂
Yes
For me i would say no it's not worth playing as i want it all to be remastered from the ground up bring it back to life with modern visuals but keep the same visuals look and with ray tracing and with new maps with the best mods all remastered as well including the N64 doom
He'll yeah. Doom 3
If you have not played Doom 1-2,
I'm sorry, but I need to confiscate your gamer batch.
That was gonna be the title of the video at first 😝
they never make better of classic doom gameplay and its fukin sad
💯💯💯💯 absolutely agree. It’s kinda tragic lol doom eternal was a great modernized effort but you’re factually right- nothing beats the classic🤘👍🙏💪✅
Hello
Uh yes
I didn't have to play through Doom 3 to see why its good, the weapons sucked, so I stopped playing. Simple. Anything before and after Doom 3 is good for me, because the weapons dont suck.
Does poo smell?
GZDoom sucks
What’s wrong with it ???
Pffft. Take a hike, bozo.
