    You can put oil in the air cartridge to make it more progressive as well

      @@OtterMTBtech I'm not sure what is the volume of the cartridge, but you can try a few ml at a time, just remove the valve core and inject it with a slime bottle

    38mm stanchions are very hard to find a balance between pos and neg air chambers. This is why RS boxxer and Fox 38 (non-Rhythm and Super Z respectively) uses additional inner air spring tube.

    hmmm interesting take on how different fork affect cornering ability . if you hv cornering issue, there's more tunning you can do from your brake lever and cock pit setup imo

    Thanks for this!👍🏾 ... I went with the Super Z 190mm for my 2k24 Rocky Mountain Slayer frame that I'm building right now. Question for you: What coil shock do you recommend to pair with this fork? I have a 2k24 Fox DHX2 230x65 right now on the frame so should I stick with it?

      @kingflynxi9420 3 місяці тому

      I would say stick with that

      Take the tokens out of the Super z and that’s a great setup.
      To be honest after you ride a ext coil fox shocks are kids toys

    I would recommend you reduce the travel in the z1 to 170mm and try that, with a 29er wheel you might be binding up the fork with twist in the fork tubes. there is a reason fox no longer sells 36mm 29er forks with 180mm travel and it might not be marketing.

      Same issue with 170 ext weird cornering vibes

      I had bushing wear with my Z1 29 at 170 as well. At 160 it’s been better.

    When you're comparing slow speed vs high speed riding, you're changing the mass value in the mass-damper-spring equation while keeping the other factors the same. So you're going to be over sprung and bounced off line. I go through the same thing with my bikes, as there are a lot of slow rocky tech singletrack around here. I ride my fs more like a rigid bike in these situations, and that's where fitness and skill come in. But I'm not going to alter my suspension because on faster trails I need it to perform.

    funny how the z1 has been pushed down to "downcountry" after the release of the super z, but 38mm forks are the way to go

    Thoughts on these new forks vs just buying a like a new or like new zeb or 38 for 300-400$?

    • @OtterMTBtech
      @OtterMTBtech  3 місяці тому

      Spend every penny you can on the best damper you can. Forget the air spring and chassis. Damper upgrades are 50 cent on the dollar. Chassis and air spring are Pennie’s on the dollars as far as returns. Dropped new fox damper into old 38. Best fork I ever rode

    I'm confused...is the 38mm fork a Zeb select or select plus?

    I wonder if they felt the old Z1 was actually cutting into sales of the 38 for lighter riders...

  • @mybadvideos

    Interesting how you had to do an immediate upgrade to turn the new Z1 into something approximating the old Z1. Sigh...
