Cool video first time aquarium owner found a 55 gallon with stand filter $40 on offerup have it set up had snails and live plants already in it, added 2 small convict cichlids and judging by this video both are under 8 weeks 😀
Great video awesome job bet that takes lots of work and u have to keep remembering to keep track of all that that takes alot if time to do.. thank u because I have some convict babies that are 4 ish weeks would of had way more but was moving lost a lot that way
Today when I woke up I looked at my tank and I was surprised to see all these baby cichlids. I was told when I bought my pair that they breed like crazy but they never did and that was a year ago. I'm excited to see what caring for them will be like
Congrats! The couple will take of the fry until they will be ready to spwan again in about 3 weeks, thn you will need to move the fry to another tank. Please watch my cichlid playlist in UA-cam to learn more..

+Rood Hyena around the age of 3 weeks the parents will start getting ready to the next spawn and will also start rejecting the current batch of fry and in some cases will attack them. This was so cool. I was curious about their growth rate and this video is perfect for that. Nice music too. Very cool video.
Hello! I came across this video and I also found baby convicts in my tank yesterday! I feel like they are anywhere from 1-5 days old based on your video. I separated them because it surprisingly appears that they were being eaten by the parents. What filter are you using? Also, are there any other supplies that I would need for lilt fry? :) I really want to raise them!
You need a sponge filter and a heater. I think that the parents were trying to gather them in one group by moving them with their mouths. Please check out this playlist, you'll find much more information - Breeding and raising convict cichild: ua-cam.com/play/PLiSh_tXJ8BnzReYIN58EE2dayr_7-kdUw.html
We have an almost 10-11 week old convict fry from an earlier batch (its the only one that has survived) but both the mom and dad convicts seem to be chasing it away/attacking it? I read convicts are supposed to be good parents so we're kinda confused as to why this is happening.
We have a new batch too probably around 6-8 weeks old? The one older fry is a lot bigger so it could be a lot older than 10-11 weeks. There's two blood red parrot cichlids in the tank as well.
+katrina 10-11 weeks old is not considered a fry to the parents anymore. Actually, after 3-4 weeks, when the parents are ready to spawn again they will reject the fry from previous batch. Please check out my convict cichlid breeding playlist in youtube.

I’d remove the big fish out of tank or get the babies out in a tank just for the the parents will eventually after a couple of days, start eating them because they’re stressed and they can’t protect them I used a baster and suck the babies out away from the mommy and dad’s and put them in a separate tank. Then they won’t die.
How many cichlid fry did you start with? How many survived in the end? I was wondering because I found two small fry in my 55 gallon tank (don't know the parents) hiding from bigger 2-5 inch african cichlids, so I put the fry in a separator in the same tank. When do you think I can release them from the separator to live with the bigger fish?
I can't really tell..the parents take care of the fry and probably eat the bad eggs and the dead fry. Eventually I get about 50-60 adults from eacb batch.
+Chandan Venkatesh in the first few weeks I feed them with brine shrimp and crashed flakes food. At about 1 month old, I feed them with blood warms and flakes for cichlids

If I have a convict pair in my community tank and the female is protecting the eggs, and one of my other fish goes near the eggs, will the female attack it? This is my biggest concern with my convicts spawning.

+Uri Shasha thanks again mines are a couple of days old and I have aggressive fish in the tank with the parents should I separate them now but the parents are really protective.
+Michael Rodriguez-Spruill don't worry, convict cichlid are tough. When I have a breeding pair, I move it the couple to their own tank because they can be very aggression towards other fish. I won't get 9 more tanks/lol I got one reply from a hobbyist and was told to use them as feeder fish,I promise I will humanely give them to a good home or a pet shop.
My convict cichlid fry hatched last night. They are in a 30 gallon tank with their parents, 2 other convict cichlids and a small yellow bellied slider. They are fairly newly adopted fish but have been doing great with the turtle. I didn't know we were expecting babies or I would have separated them. So my question is....do I move the parents and fry now to another tank away from the other cichlids and the turtle? Or can the parents protect them from the turtle and other fish? I have a 10 gallon tank filtering and ready to move them if I need to.
BTW, what are your plans?? the pair will spawn every 3-4 weeks from now on...and you cannot move the new borns together with the previous batch.. and keeping them in the same tank with their parents and other convict cichlids might be dangerous for them
Oh ya I didn't separate them from the parents last time I did the dad got very upset brat uo the mom then he wouldn't let her out from under rock area was scared I would take her or something but he really injured her badly this time I didn't touch the babies they all survived done very well the parents are happy as can be they're great cure happy parents
@@UriShasha none of mine have, including the ones I've missed when they got 1". Have about 2000 of them total. Both stripped and blonde. I feed the SERA kio royal mini food, medium when larger. @@UriShasha ok tnx :)
How many months you can breed them?
+tristan crespo you should have asked how many years...if kept properly, convict cichlid can live up to ten years!!
thank you for your valuable information
👍👍

+Raj Gupta flakes for cichlids and decap brine shrimps
What did u feed them
+Fish Lover crashed flakes and live baby brine shrimp. At one month of age I switched to live blood warms instead of the BBS

+Corrie Shepard thanks!
mines about 2.5 inches in 4months. they sure grow fast :)
+Corrie Shepard yep, that's fast. I have entire plalyist of their parents if you care to watch..
Uri Shasha I definitely will. thanks!
I have fry 8 days old should I set up tank for them now to move them n have family to give to my first convicks and first BABIES...they became free swimming on 23 rd that when I saw all of them....
Yes, you should move the fry or the parents to another tank. When the parents will be ready to spawn again, they will reject the previous batch. Please watch this for more information -

Bro intha Convict Cichlid another name Zebra Cichlid ah??
Yes...convict cichlid and zebra cichlid are the same
what can you fed the fry
+Michael Rodriguez-Spruill I'm feeding them both crushed flakes food and live baby brine shrimp. At about one month old I switch to blood warms instead of the brine shrimp
+Uri Shasha thanks again mines are a couple of days old and I have aggressive fish in the tank with the parents should I separate them now but the parents are really protective.
+Michael Rodriguez-Spruill If this aggressive fish puts the fry in danger them take them out
+Uri Shasha they are really small I don't even want to take a chance to hurt them
+Michael Rodriguez-Spruill don't worry, convict cichlid are tough.
When I have a breeding pair, I move it the couple to their own tank because they can be very aggression towards other fish. When they have fry, I leave them with their parents for 3 weeks, this is about the time the parents should spawn again.
Please check out the rest of the videos I have on convict cichlids
what can we feed them
+Deepa Raghavendra I feed them both crashed flakes food and live baby brine shrimp until they reach one month old. Then i replace the BBS with dry bloodworms
Mine eat goldfish Flakes 😂
How did you remove the fry from original tank? I have a bunch of 1 day old fry in my 50 gallon and I don’t know what I’m going to do when it’s time to seperate them.
+Tim Carney just by using a large net..
Hey I have a convict and a flowerhorn in the same tank it’s a 75 gallon and they are protecting half of the tank could I be possible they are cross breeding
Yes, this is possible. Not sure if their fry will be fertile tough...
Can i feed them egg yolk
Yes, but make sure to clean the leftovers, it rots the water really fast
Why are my 4 week old fry a lot smaller than yours
I feed the fry with both crushed flakes and live baby brine shrimp.
Please watch these videos as well (originally made on guppies, but it's the same idea) -

Where can I get the brine shrimp
No problem, good luck!
Ebay
I am asking u that we have to transport new born convicts into another aquarium....?
+Upneet singh convict cichlid fry can manage fine without their parents. You can feed them crashed flakes and if possible also baby brine shrimp, here is how to hatch them:
ua-cam.com/video/8Cxg2IJ-ZrE/v-deo.html
Did you know that female convicts always have red scaling under or beside there pectoral fins

Bro do u sell them? If not from where did you buy the parents? Im from india too
I currently don't have convict cichlids
My convict frys are now 5 weeks old. I am from India. Great watching your video
My fry are growing, two my convict pairs are breeding back to back, what am I going to do with/lol
+Geoffrey Jenkins 😂try to sell, replace in lfs, give away or get more tanks..
Just be carefull, I ended up with 12 active tanks...
I won't get 9 more tanks/lol
I got one reply from a hobbyist and was told to use them as feeder fish,I promise I will humanely give them to a good home or a pet shop.
+Geoffrey Jenkins good!!!
I think you should move just the fry, If you will move the parents and the fry together the parents might think their fry are intruders.
BTW, what are your plans??
the pair will spawn every 3-4 weeks from now on...and you cannot move the new borns together with the previous batch.. and keeping them in the same tank with their parents and other convict cichlids might be dangerous for them
what is the food of baby
+Gherbi Dz I'm using both crashed flakes and live baby brine shrimp. At one month of age i switch the bbs with blood warms
name of the music. please?
+catmanold can't remember, took it from youtube library

+MyView 10.75.69 at 10 weeks they grew to 1inch long
Wow that is quick.
MyView 10.75.69 yes, I take good care of them
MyView 10.75.69 mine are growing much slower then the video

Oh ya I didn't separate them from the parents last time I did the dad got very upset brat uo the mom then he wouldn't let her out from under rock area was scared I would take her or something but he really injured her badly this time I didn't touch the babies they all survived done very well the parents are happy as can be they're great cure happy parents

@@shel.b.1090 ☝️👍
That looks like mini tissue rolls
😁These are ceramic rings. Used as filter media.
mine are 8 weeks old i need to find them a new home because theres too much
Known "problem" when keeping convicts 😂😂😂
Mine are 2 weeks old
+donnyl420 great. Get ready to separate them from their parents..
Why take them away from the parents? Have 5 sets in a 75 community tank. They all take care of each other's.
The parents might delay their next spawning when the fry around or reject aggressively the previous brood if they are ready to spawn again..
@@UriShasha none of mine have, including the ones I've missed when they got 1". Have about 2000 of them total. Both stripped and blonde. I feed the SERA kio royal mini food, medium when larger. Helps keep the tank cleaner. You could put a common plecko I with them. Nothing bothers them, have a 16" in with them now.
temperature for fry
+Raj Gupta 78f / 26c it's good for almost all freshwater fish
they grow too slow
And so do you you took 9 months to get out of the womb while these guys took 3 months to look like convicts.
