Awesome tanks. All tank mates look so good. You’re doing an awesome job. I’ve been catching a few of your vids and each one reels me in. I’m also new to the hobby and enjoy ur channel
dood this guy out of all of the youtubers is one of the best. he has helped me out a couple times but yeah i think it goes dws , monstermikefishing , catch em all fishing, and king queen cichlids . but dws comes in first for sure
I was also pretty surprised by them, they held down half my tank, none of the other fish dared go anyway near them and I keep some pretty aggressive fish( trotheus, auratus, bumblebee, johanni etc etc) I had to remove them to there own exclusive tank.
Fight was epic! My convicts are just about to give birth and made three holes in the ground already! They will soon be ready to lay eggs and I hope the fry don't get eaten because I have big fish in my tank but the fish in the fight was huge and the convicts still fended him off which makes me more confident in more fry surviving.
Breeding Male Convicts are the Pit Bull Dogs of Virtually EVERY Aquarium. Such awesome little fish with incredible instincts and personality. I had a male in a 10 gallon years ago and he would let me pet him. I fed him mealworms among his normal cichlid food. 'Buddy' had a huge forhead bump and was a true boss. Feeder fish gave him ICH which killed him (this was before I knew anything about keeping fish)
Is that a red devil? Lol i always thought it was a midas with that giant hump. Have you heard of the chancho cichlid? The largest and craziest of the amphilophus and only discovered in 2008 lol seems like a monster DW would be interested in
Yes that's a red devil in my 350g. I have heard of the chance and it's on my wishlist. I just hear they are too aggressive for cichlid communities and I don't have space for a solo tank
@dwsdarius man you're my favorite fish keeper on UA-cam because you remain true to your love for big aggressive cichlids and you have an awesome natural style of fish keeping. Ever thought about keeping an umbee cichlid? I'm currently doing research to buy my first monster tank. Going 8foot by 3foot by 3
@@luigigreen9823 Thanks! I have and they are being sold everywhere for low prices. But just like the chancho the umbee is best kept solo and I don't have the space for a solo fish that big
I had 8 of them in a 29 gal for like 3 weeks and they were just fine until the female mated. They only would stare at each other and swim in that one spot as if they were at a starting line burning tires just ready to go with their mouth open but they never hurt or kill each other
Frozen fish eh? I was wondering if those are always safe to use , my local supermarket has baby chubs for dirt cheap like 2.49$ for 12 are these safe to keep my pbass and Oscars ?
So long as they don't have any added ingredients like salt, most that say wild caught are safe but even if it doesn't say wild caught if it had salt or any preservatives they should mention it with an ingredients list
Awesome vid dw thanks! What is your experience with the Cuban cichlids? Preferred tank mates? The one you showed are awesome and have been considering one. Thanks, gatorboy
Thank you, I have a male and I've had a female in the pass. They are beautiful, but highly aggressive. The female isn't as bad and I was able to keep mine with other fish with no worries....the male however, this pass Sunday I did a rescape on the tank and when it was all done he claimed half of the tank to himself and fights anyone the comes on his side...and he's not the biggest fish in the tank. He's always ready to fight so I think they are best kept with cichlids larger than them (males)
My pearsei is about 6-7 months old. Mine started showing this color at 5 inches, but its rank in the hierarchy will effect that. A 125 gallon should be good for one
@@dwsdarius They're ok when they are the only cichlids in the community tank but with your setup any spawn will be worthless since the other predators just nicks one when the parent's aren't paying attention
I'm so happy we got to see Forest enjoying the fish. All of your fish are gorgeous. Yous have taken "aquarist" to a whole different level! You have designer tanks and your fish are so fortunate to be loved by you. I moved my mollies into a 30 tall and yellow water is no longer an issue! I don't feed a lot. I cut the Sera O-Nips in half and my teenage mollies really like them. My fish have so much more room to swim now! Upon transferring them. I left a baby in the net. i double checked the net but obviously not well enough:-( He was the most agile and the only black among the (2) blonds. I am broken hearted about it:-( I am sure the (2) are wondering what happened to him:-( There is some pain with raising fish. I transferred the other (2) by a vase and he was the last and I transferred him by net. There is a lesson to be learned here.
Thank you, that sucks. I lost baby fish before transferring them via net, now whenever I have to move baby fish with a net a shake the net in the tank a bit to make sure its empty
I’ll never get over how convicts will fight something 10x their weight. Had to separate my male convict from my devil (the only peaceful one in existence, I swear) because it kept trying to pick fights and getting beat up. Now it harasses my Oscar in a different tank. smh.
Loved it...they are so feisty and tough...I had 2 convicts fending off a Red Devil...yes very amazing to watch as long as you are vigilant!!! Nice video...I love your set up with the pots and foliage!!! The monster orinoco is gorgeous..I'm from that neck of the woods...hes going to be a hand full..❤❤👍😂
Thank you, can you believe that little Orinoco tried to fight my Azul who's twice its size. That's why I need my temensis to grow and become boss, but hopefully he's not too aggressive
@@dwsdarius yes sr I believe!!! He's beautiful too a true monster. If you ever get a chance to go fishing in the Amazon...you'll see how big and beautiful they get especially the tems...they get huge....
They are so bold, when I watch them its not that they have a great fighting technique...rather the fearlessness they show I guess stun's their opponent!
DWSDARIUS FISH TANKS my pair just had a bunch of babies and now the green texas and flowerhorn just cower together behind some decor. It’s kind of funny how such a small fish can manage to scare away something as aggressive as a fh or texas. Now it leaves me with what to do with 200+ convict fry...
watching the parrot fish attempt to stand up to that massive convict is like watching Danny D'Vito pick a fight with Shaq.
The best behavioural video on UA-cam I've seen in awhile from a hobbyist.
Lol. I was watching this fight like it was National Geographic 😂😂😂
Lol, I need to get better with the camera to be on that level
As a rare and fellow spiny eel keeper, I MUST see your Fire eel 🤩
12:55 "I had a mated pair but they broke up" LOL... i think a person that doesn't keep fish will find it hard to accept fish broke up
Lol, if you watch them long enough the social life between them is better than these reality tv shows

DON'T MESS with Convicts!!!...…….the Original GANGSTA!!!
Lol, yes they are
Convicts are amazing parents, love watching my pair rush around guarding their eggs even though they are the only ones in the tank.
Yes I've kept many breeding pairs...so far convicts are still #1
DWSDARIUS FISH TANKS put. A red devil in there lol
This pair is strong for their size man you should get the bullies outta there. But I can say you are lucky to have such peaceful cichlids though.
Another awesome vid love all your fish man
Thank You!
You have beautiful tanks and fish!
Thank you!
My brichardi behaved similar to these, pretty much every fish in the tank kept away.
Wow, I never kept them and I assumed that they were more passive, like kribensis
I was also pretty surprised by them, they held down half my tank, none of the other fish dared go anyway near them and I keep some pretty aggressive fish( trotheus, auratus, bumblebee, johanni etc etc) I had to remove them to there own exclusive tank.

Thank You!
Should I get back into aggressive cichlids based on what I have now?
I'll say that sometimes the aggression is too much...
Good
Convicts are badass, the honey badger of the fish family
Sure are
Love this video..
That’s a natural broody instinct. Unfortunately, not all fish have that, so you’re lucky.

The big one came from lowes hardware, the smaller came from amazon
