Slow living isn’t a trend for me. It's a lifestyle I have embraced for years; I learned it from my mom and grandma. We always just took our time to enjoy the beauty of the everyday. I’m a romantic at heart, with a very practical lifestyle approach “ keep it simple.” I grew up on a farm, which furthered my love of simplicity and back to the basics mindset.
We moved six months ago to our cozy cottage, and we are in the process of fixing it up. I strive to make our home cozy and inviting no matter what stage of remodeling we are in. Making a home hygge and cozy is just a normal way of life for me, and I can’t imagine it any other way.

You never seem rattled or hurried or frazzled. I think that’s one of the draws to your channel. I enjoy how calm and happy you are. I had an old Ziegler stove at my first home a dozen thousand years ago. We had an electric range, too, but would use that once in a great while. Also had a big wood stove in the lower part of the kitchen that was much loved. Sadly, our children live out of state and across the country. My husband and I don’t have a need for anything more than our coffee maker, Lodge and Le Creuset cookware. Oh, wait. Kitchenaid stand and hand held mixers. French press coffee pots. Man. I guess we do have a lot. !!!! 😳

After I married, my grandfather used to buy me platters at a local auction in California. I used them for a long time, but I was afraid of breaking them. But still love them.

Greetings from West Michigan! We have some kitchen things we still use today that we bought from a lady who was moving into a retirement village around 37 years ago. We were married in 1986 and bought the inside contents of the woman's home and the deal was that we take what we wanted and then dispose of the rest. I still use an orange soup ladle and all the cookie sheets as well as a roasting pan. As part of the deal we received a washer/dryer, refrigerator, bed frames, kitchen items and so many things that I cannot remember. We used all of it but in due time much of it was worn out or sold as we moved homes but we raised our children using much of the stuff.
I have my favorites today too and they are my KitchenAid that is probably 25 years old, two instant pots and though the children are grown up and on their own I still love homemaking.

For a shower gift I received a Revere ware saucepan that I have used since 1949 It is still after73 years a pan that I use almost every day. I clean the copper bottom with Twinkle and I shines !.Thanks for great videos.

@mary Simmons, I have a copper bottom Revere pot that originally belonged to my grandmother (who passed when I was younger). I grew up with my mom (who’s now 68) cooking with a whole set. I’m 31, and I love using it to cook special dishes that help me feel connected to them.
My favorite kitchen item is a rolling pin that both my mother and grandmother used. I also love my kitchenmixer.

My Kitchenaid Mixer is 40 years old. I'm so grateful to an appliance repairman that was working on my dishwasher that when he saw it 20 years ago told me mine was made by Hobart and I should never let it go it would last forever. :)

Kitchen Aid Mixer, Set of quality made kitchen knives and steel. I also have my grandmothers Mrs. Rabbit cookie jar and her rolling pin as my most priceless kitchen pieces. Now I am that 62year old grandma rolling out biscuit dough with what was my grandmothers rolling pin. Blessings.

What a gift to find these daffodils planted by forgotten hands from long ago. It’s like a message from the past. I loved this land too and now you’re here to live & care for it too. Remnants of gardens of the past are magical and give us a continuum of hope.

I have cast iron skillet, dutch oven and small skillet, can't live without them. My prized skillet is an All Clad a co worker gifted to me, they are very expensive but I love the weight (stainless steel) and very easy to clean. Thanks for sharing your kitchen and favorites with us today.

Very pretty and well-thought-out cook's kitchen! I also insist on lots of views and sunlight for my kitchen! Love that you are putting in those two windows! You could do one big garden bay window, put herbs and flowery plants in it, a glass shelf across top for collected colorful blue, green, red glass bottles...it would be a very beautiful, sunlit space! At Christmas, you could do a mini village, sparkly tiny lights on that glass shelf. Another idea, would be to do a skylight in your kitchen, over the island. Imagine stirring cookie dough for Christmas, looking up... and seeing snowflakes whirling overhead...you would feel like you lived inside a snowglobe! Your little ones would LOVE that! You could even outline the skylight with pine trim and tiny lights!

Love seeing the kitchen come together. Can't wait to see that wood stove going! Favorite kitchen things? My KitchenAid, which I bought 30 years ago refurbished. Still going strong, though I bought a bigger one to make multiple loaves of bread at one time. My cast iron pans are right up there with the KitchenAid. I have the 3 we used when I was growing up (I'm 67 now) and I've added lots of pieces since then. I'm addicted to whisks, rubber spatulas, wooden spoons and good tongs so have MANY of each. Pressure cookers, I have 4, the Instant Pot being used the most and my air fryer. Our kids are grown, with kids of their own but I still love being a homemaker too...and of course a grandmother.
I cant wait to show you the stove burning happily this fall :) All amazing tools for the kitchen! Homemaking and being a grandmother is a wonderful thing :)
I used a fridge like that when I first got married. I paid $25 for it. I did have to get a new gasket for it. The bad thing about it was almost no freezer space. It was older than that one it just had a little square box in the center. 2 ice trays that came with it (the metal kind that had the metal handle that pulled to release the cubes) and maybe room for a little bit of hamburger like a 1pound tray,It was a Fridigaire. Handle looked the same. I see your green pirex bowls. I got them new for a wedding gift. I am 69 if you were wondering, I live in the Texas Panhandle. Oh you have such a large kitchen! I just love it and you large large living room. You have decorated it so lovely. I can't wait to see the kitchen once it is finished! And the wood stove will be wonderful. I can't have one, I do have a fire place but rarely use it. The area of the country I live in is very dry, arid and windy. The only trees here have been planted by the houses. There are no forest or woods. Just very flat plains where ranching and wheat, and maze is grown. A cord of wood is $400 because it has to be trucked in at least 300 miles and with the price of fuel brings the price up. I do canning, I live in town and have 8 chicken. A back yard garden and part of my front yard in vegetables also. Next summer I plan to put in some berries. I have tried before but no luck but I don't want to give up. I would like an apple tree and a peach tree also if I can find space. I have a corner lot so I may be able to fit it in and maybe some grapes. I had a green house but it blew down. We get 60 mile an hour winds steady and up to 90 mile gusts. My yard is fenced with solid 6' pickets, lower ones in front because of my little White Schnauzer. My husband is 76, he is a Vietnam Vetrain. Prayers and Blessings to you and your lovely family. I enjoy watching you so much.

I have a very old butchers block from a factory which was demolished. I use everyday. It shows lots of wear but I love it.

I have an old pan that we call the rice pan. It is heavy and the lid has a steam vent and it makes perfect fluffy rice. I have been using it for 49 years but it was my husband's grandmother's pan before that. My daughter is wealthy and has a fabulous kitchen and home and one day when she was here she said "I'm going to inherit that rice pan." She was totally serious.
That's defiantly an heirloom that you can pass on :)
Hi Abby Jo... yes i have a bread board my parents had as a wedding present, my eldest brother is 70!! Also i use daily 'prestige' kitchen utensil i think from late 50's early 60's.... Really enjoy looking through the 'window' into your life. Love the kitchen... can tell it's the heart of your home.

I love your new wood cookstove! I used an old one like the one you showed, back about 25 years ago that looked exactly like that one except it was half wood and half electric! And yes, the wood stove part was so tiny that it sure didn't hold much wood! I use my cast iron skillets and dutch oven everyday and have for years! I also have a Bosch mixer for doughs, etc., that I've used for many years. I couldn't do without my Tupperware peelers, my Blendtec, wooden cutting boards, red tea kettle, and pretty tea cups!

I have a tool that I have had for 50+ years. It was a gift from my ex-husband’s. dear Aunt. It was ordered from Yankee Magazine. They said you would use it for everything. It is a small spatula, with a rounded , somewhat wider end. One side is slightly serrated on the end. It is missing a brad. The finish is completely off the handle. I❤it.

Thank you for the tour. I'm in the renovation process of a ranch style home, so usable homestead spaces (& tools) are always helpful. Ps: I lean toward non electric kitchen, so I've kept my grandma & moms tools well cared for.
That’s lovely, I appreciate both electric and non electric tools. We lived off grid for over five years and I really think we should all have good tools that we can use with no electricity too ❤️
I love my instant Pot, My Kitchenaid, My low pressure pot, (Haven't seen them since I bought mine) My enamled Dutch Oven, My heavy duty stainless steel waterless Cook Wear I bought when I graduated RN School 1987, Still looks brand new. My mother also had a set, she passed away in 2005 and my daughter is still cooking using Mother's set. Guess mine will go to a granddaughter! My heavy duty wooden spoons. I tossed all the thin ones and bought a few really heavy duty ones, not in a set but each one seperate that I knew I always cooked with. LOVE wooden spoons and last I guess would be my spray olive oil bottle and salt and pepper grinder,

My Le Creuset bought in 1968 and still using them today. They will be 54 years old this year. At the time only the color flame (orange) was available at the Dayton’s Department store in Minneapolis. Cast iron fry pans. My Chinese cast iron woks from the Wok Shop in San Francisco.
How wonderful, my daughter has a few vintage pieces of the flame orange Le Creuset they are amazing! I want a nice wok someday. ❤️
My favorite kitchen tools are my Dutch oven and my kitchen aid stand mixer.

Good evening Abby Jo! Such a beautiful blog. Thank you! My oldest piece of cookware I use is a cast iron frying pan my Mother-in-Love gave me and taught me how to "Southern cook and cure". She also said it would be useful for keeping her son inline. I fell in love with HER during that conversation and am blessed to say she was the most precious Mother-in-Love EVER! We lost her 10 years ago and I am proud to say that even after 37 years of marriage I never have used it to straight out her son as she did a perfect job in raising the most amazing man! God bless! This was a really fun video 💕 I can’t wait to see the wood stove 💕. The flowers are absolutely beautiful. My mom gave me pots, antique mixing bowls and Utensils to cook with when I was 21 and I still have them. I turning 60 this year. I was just given embroidered kitchen towels by her (eeek, so happy) Most of my home has my Mother’s things, A Great Grandmothers, my Grabdmothers , and My Mothers in laws things. People are always surprised that about 75% was given to by someone and it has come together over the years to make a lovely “picture”.

I can’t wait to see what your kitchen looks like when you’re finished remodeling, it will be amazing! In 2019 I had my kitchen totally gutted and I had them turn it 180° so that my sink would be under a huge window that looks out onto my backyard and flowers. So yes I agree that is a must have!

I have a set of stainless steel pots that my parents received as a wedding gift 65 years ago! They have both passed and I love using these pans that I grew up with my Mom cooking in.

Good evening from my home to yours. I loved your video. So calming and relaxing. Such a beautiful tour of your wonderful kitchen and sitting area, with stories about items, and how your family uses the areas.
I have some cutlery from my grandmother, glass tumblers and some saucepans that are over 20 years old. They are some of my favourite and most well used pieces.
I have a small tiled board, to rest hot dishes on, that I made at a church school holiday program in 1982. I nailed together the board, did the tiling and grouting, and wrote my name and the date on the back. First and only time that I have done that. I use it every time I bake.

How perfect to pick tulips and daffodils in your yard. I ove that. That wood cook stove is just right, a beautiful blend of all the quality aesthetic we love but the practicality of glass doors and large oven . Just amazing. I'm a big fan of glass doors too , flames are mesmerising and so relaxing . I have an antique Crown #1 wood cook stove that we have carted from house to house. Its one of my favourite things ,we are yet to put it in. It is pretty small, small firebox and oven, and definitely doesn't have glass but the flavour of food cooked in it makes it completely worth that. Ive thought so many times about getting maybe an Aga or something but realistically, its just not going to get much use here in our warm climate. I have some of my mums Corning ware and ive collected more as we broke some . I just love that they've been in continuous use for so many decades and the pretty patterns on the sides too. Last year I collected more small ones for when we take meals to loved ones. They are gorgeous and the food seems more special than in a plastic container which was how I used to do it. I have my mums rolling pin and my grandmothers ice cream scoop from her little shop. I only have to see them in the drawer and I have memories come back. Very special. My favourite thing about your kitchen is definitely that island. I'm looking for a great little cupboard like your previous home, to put a butcher block top and wheels on it. I have a cast iron frying pan from my grandparents' farm from the 1920s. I've used it almost daily for the 44 years of my married life and they must have loved it too because it was one of the things they rescued from the farmhouse when they had a fire in the late 1920s.
That is a special frying pan!! You should write that story down so your family will always know where that pan came from :)

Thank you, I so enjoyed this video. Some of the items I couldn’t do without and love is my KitchenAid Pro we use the juicer and meat grinder the most it was a Christmas gift from my husband 15 plus years ago. Second is my Instapot it’s an 8 quart, to be honest it intimidated me for almost the first year I had it. I do basic things stews soups eggs in it but love the time it saves me in preparing meals for my family. The last treasures of my kitchen are the platters that belonged to my mother and my grandmother and one from my great grandmother I used to save them and only use them for holidays and special occasions but I enjoy them now and try to use them in my daily servings.

New subscriber here and I love your channel and content. To answer your question about what I love the most in my kitchen. Well there’s a lot but for sure, my Tupperware storage containers. I store all my ingredients in airtight containers. It took me several years to gather them all and I am always on the look-out for more but I’m pretty content with what I have so far. I’m also always thrifting for Pyrex dishes.

Abby Jo, you framed this video beautifully with your garden flower 🌺 foraging and the daffodils swaying in the breeze at the end. My treasured pieces of kitchen equipment are my Sunbeam MixMaster (like a KitchenAid) that I have used for 46 years, and a small copper-based saucepan that I inherited and use for melting butter and making sauces.

I've been using big glass apothecary jars with air tight ground glass tops for 30 plus years! I still collect them whenever I see them when I go thrifting. My sun porch, turned pantry, has all of my dry goods, beans, rice, pasta, etc.,stored in these jars. I also have always used a huge wooden cutting board, and solid maple, hand made rolling pin for 30 years.

Abby, thank you for the tour of your lovely kitchen. I have a favorite cast Iron pan from my parents’ home. When I was younger, I didn’t use it very much but as time went by, I started cooking with it more and more. It’s now one of my “go to” pans to use. I also have a Dutch oven that my mother used frequently and I think of her whenever I use it. Diane/Massachusetts

Well that was a fun Sunday afternoon visit! My most used kitchen tools are both of my mixers (Kitchenaid and a Bosch), my immersion blender (I just got it last month and don't know how I managed with out one for so long!), and an egg whisk I picked up at the thrift store that for lack of better words looks kind of like a spring with a handle. It beats eggs so quickly and thoroughly I'll probably never use anything else. Thanks for letting us "nose around" your kitchen and sitting room : )

For many years I had only ever had a hand mixture to use for baking..It did all I ever needed ..But had a food processor and a crockpot and a bread maker ...I did not get my Kitchenaid mixer until I moved to USA ....I did not bring any of my old kitchen appliances with me as our electrical plugs etc are different in New Zealand ..

I am a retired upholsterer so I know the quality of furniture you have in your living room. Thank you for showing us how to slow down and live in the moment. I know this is late coming but I use my kitchenaid, instant pot, lodge cookware, vitamix almost daily, kettle and coffee press for tea, and i also have a grain mill. Makes the best pastry!! I live in a 1900 house I want to restore back to its original pieces. Just wish it was in the woods! ❤️❤️ I live in Sault Ste. Marie, you’re so close to me!
