The last Fincher film that gave us a comprehensive “making of” was Dragon Tattoo in 2011, and that makes me sad. Gone Girl only got a commentary track.
I had to do some travel a while ago and specifically chose this film to watch on the plane. I was expecting a run of the mill assassin flick that I could forget about as soon as the flight was done. I was wrong. What I got was a thought provoking film that I have have watched several times since its premiere. A kind of companion piece to Jean-Pierre Melville's _Le Samouraï_ .
@@nobad6843 That’s what I was getting at. The Killer is clearly skilled and can handle himself, but real fights generally are messy and not exactly polished.
I think this movie went over a lot of people's heads, there's lots of subtle humor and details to appreciate in service of a very standard revenge plot. I really enjoyed it, especially for the FL scene and Tilda.
movie was so good i could watch and watch and never get bored, there is its few movies where i could rewatch them over and over and never get tired, The Killer is one of them.
Dear Netflix, Please include director commentary tracks for your films. You already offer alternative audio tracks for foreign dubbing and Fincher’s commentary tracks are never less than great. It would add so much value to your service. Sincerely, Me
@@joaocorreiamedia Physical Media almost always includes foreign language dub tracks. Keep in mind not everyone is literate. Film was created as a medium for working class people who couldn't afford the opera or symphony or state play. Many of whom couldn't read, yet film gave them art and entertainment that inspired them and enriched their lives. It's important that other people with less education than you and me have access to these stories too.
@@joaocorreiamedia But that's going to be true of every film presented to an alternative language audience. The director isn't spending all their time and efforts and money crafting images so that the audience will be focused on the very bottom of the screen reading words either. With any kind of foreign communication, an adaptation of some kind will inevitably take place. Which is why I advocate having as many options as possible. Providing the option for foreign dubbing doesn't necessarily remove the option for a subtitle overlay. Some people will prefer to read the subtitles, other people literally can't.
For example; I make sure to have subtitles for any foreign movie I watch, but absolutely make exception for animated films. I want to marvel at the painstaking animation, not focus my eyes at the bottom of the screen everytime a character is speaking, so I always go with english dubbing for animation.
The film is amazing. Loved every second of it. The slowness of it all really puts you in the seat with the killer. In the day and age of fast life with tiktok and everything, ive been noticing a trend that people can’t enjoy films like Martin Scorsese Killers of the Flowers Moon or The Irishman. Same with this film. Great film but people crying about not enough action.
"If you're unable to endure boredom, this work is not for you." I'd like to think that's a way of saying "you expected an action packed assassin movie? Nah"
Most would say this is boring and too much talking but if you're in the bodyguard industry like me, I find it intriguing to listen to the other side and how a person like him thinks. I enjoyed it
This is a film that I felt was perfect for Fincher to direct, because it wasn’t just the usual action flick of “hero saves the day”, but a deeply meditative, soothing, and slow burn tense film that explored the point of view of the assassin, and how he is so stoically and emotionally detached from reality. It adds a meta layer of how he feels being an assassin, the psychological toll it takes, and how it colors his view of life through a cynical, post modernist and nihilistic lens.
This existential hitman comedy.. will grow on you.:-) idk what it is... Fassbenders voice over... the music selection... and the fight scene is a masterpiece in itself.
Since Netflix doesnt want to release physical media they should release BTS bonus features along with the film as separate "Episodes" under the main tab. Dont know why they haven't done that.
I don’t like how people said he had a fairly simple movie, his earlier movies were Multi-layered and stuff. They want More complex stories from him. Fincher himself said this is a weekend one-time watch thriller, like Panic-room. He’s not a scorcesse or a Nolan, who are always trying to outdo themselves( nothing wrong with that). This man is an auteur, they do what they love.
I really like this movie more than ever ... This is a masterpiece... 4x I watch this movie... High hope it's not the end of the storyline... Keep going to create more scenes like this! I love it so much ❤
This movie really changes your view of hitmen jobs. Hollywood showed us people like the Equalizer, John Wick and 47, while Fincher showed us the "reality". They are like normal people, with human fears and paranoias, they follow a precise scheme to operate and when that goes out of the window, they react just like us in similar situations.
Im in 2 minds as to whether this was a jet black comedy or a diary of a sociopath whos experiencing an accelerating nervous breakdown. Or both. Anyway i enjoyed it. I want a 4k physical release please Netflix. The music and ambient sound needs lossless Atmos.
I can't say I was overwhelmed by this movie, but I had the need to watch it few times. What I am missing is some realization, either of the character or his enemies, but then again he is a killer... perhaps there is that emptiness that can not be filled. I was expecting at least to see some rage coming out of him, or maybe the opposite, but it ends just as it begun, with a steady pace, next to his girlfriend who oddly seems tranquilized by his presence, and so is he by hers. Odd film.
I like this film a lot. Pure cinema. Far beyond anything I have seen this year. Then maybe comes „Napoleon“. And then maybe Killers of the Flower Moon. Don’t ridicule yourselves with Barbenheimer. I wounder though, being one myself from time to time, what’s so wrong with German tourists? Don’t they bring some money still?
I am a fan of the film but I think Fincher is off the mark here. What makes the comic great is that it's wonderful portrait of a self-aware, knowing sociopath and murderer. While there are elements of an unreliable narrator, it's nowhere as pronounced as in the film.
it was missing emotion. he really cared for his partner, but i want to know how? he's so sociopathic. why her? what makes her different? wish they were given 15 min to address this in the movie
Man, probably the most unsatisfying movie, I really looked forward to, I've seen in years... But yeah, as many smart people wrote and said, I'm probably just one of those simple peasants who just didn't get it. Too bad.
Great mood film but very flawed. Not quite Leon, Nikita or Woo’s “Killer”. Especially when you remove all the action. The drama is quite absent from this movie.
Fincher is a great director but I feel that he is not getting the funding he needs for a solid project. That is the wrong direction the cinema is going. Either the audience has become so lazy and shallow or the execs are just incompetent.
Your 💩 opinion is meh. You’re boring, get back on tiktok. Your attention span can’t enjoy a slow elongated, wine like movie parallel to the killer. You gotta have everything fast and short like your simple “meh” comment. You couldn’t form a coherent sentence critiquing the film.
ok now give me an hour of him talking about the movie :)
The last Fincher film that gave us a comprehensive “making of” was Dragon Tattoo in 2011, and that makes me sad. Gone Girl only got a commentary track.
You know they won't....😢😢😢
That would be elite
He’s a smart guy. I can listen to him talk for hours.
That’s the issue with streaming, they don’t give us bts and deleted scenes like physical media. Netflix NEEDS to have a 4k blu ray release for this
This film was like a therapy for me. So calm and soothing scenes. I loved it.
Yes. I loved it too. You describe it exactly the way I do.
One of the best movies I've watched over the last 5 years. Very well put together and a joy to watch and listen to.
Same I just have it on in the background with the volume off sometimes

This was a really great film! A lot more realistic and subdued compared to usual action films, and Michael Fassbander really sold his character.
This is more of a character piece, not an action film. There is some action, but it’s not really glamorous or badass, so to speak.

Another masterwork from David Fincher the lighting and cinematography in this movie is just incredibly gorgeous.

"Became a Killer myself" would have been a better ending lol
I love to hear this! What's the premise of your short film if you don't mind me asking?
It’s an awesome movie
I watched it the second time and it was even better
I really liked how Fincher is literally showing his own thought progress of filmmaking through an assasin

A solid movie !, one of the most immersive films i've seen this year
People say this film was overly edgy and self-indulgent, but Fincher makes it clear how deliberately ridiculous was the execution of this tropes.

Stepping on a phone and kicking it to the gutter is an irritable amateur move. I loathe Fassbender's character for this idiotic move.
I find this confusing. He didn't really exploit the nature of the voice over at all.

whole movie is just a hitman play through.
this movie sucked. a bunch of nothing happened. Fincher clearly got a paycheck with this cause what a let down.
