- The brand new ROG Ally has launched in India. ASUS’ Windows handheld gaming console is here and in this video, we check out its super cool design, its gaming performance and compare it to some gaming laptops and gaming PCs to see where it stands.
We test out eSports titles like Valorant, Apex Legends and AAA titles like Red Dead Redemption 2, Forza Horizon 5, Cyberpunk and more on the ROG Ally.

What do you guys think of the ROG Ally at 70K? 🎮
Expensive. Controller experience can be done in x box ps5 for lesser price . But yeah needs a tv(display).
You're having Ps5 just 20k lesser (but requires another 30k TV and 3k min for every Ps5 game)
But you have everything in a 70k CONSOLE with WINDOWS 11 where you can practically play ANY PC GAME for 0 bucks if you know where to get them. Now that's a really good deal if the console can be repaired easily and works for multiple years (we're assuming it should be 4 years)

70k is way too expensive I think, even though the performance is great but portable gaming is a very niche market in India. At least in numbers the sales will be much less than that of nintendo or steam deck. But I really do hope people welcome this product because other portable console maker will also try Indian market.
Nintendo had something to do with less sales so they stopped and Valve doesn't have enough money to satisfy worldwide needs so they ship to specific countries.

For how exotic this device is(atleast in India) the price I think is actually fair. Usually these things are priced ridiculously in India and end up dying at arrival
cause the things you are mentioning here which are handheld, were never supported in India.
Nintendo and Steam both never launched their consoles in India.
They were all imported thus priced highly and also no warranty, so you would get broken pieces and you could do nothing about it.
ROG has LAUNCHED this in India, which means proper pricing as well as after sale warranty period.

To be honest, this is the start towards an amazing revolution. To think that you can't play AAA titles on your laptop without plugging in the charger and then this device coming out of nowhere and making an amazing change is just mind blowing. I think there'll be a time where handheld devices will have graphic cards built in them which can handle such powerful games and at the same time provide great battery life

Buying Steam deck makes much more sense and affordable in India,inspite of the fact it is being imported and comes at an effective price of 40k.(Buy from mx2 games and not Amazon).Also for 70k i think people will just prefer to get a laptop instead. Portable gaming shouldn't be this expensive.

At 70k people could get a gaming laptop but they still get an iphone or a flagship samsung phone. Steam deck is the baseline. The Ally pushes higher framerates and you can play most games at 60fps in handheld mode where steamdeck is more better suited for 30 fps. You dock this Ally and you can play at 1440p. So ya, for thise who can spend extra they get a higher resolution and more fos

This paves way for a Zen 5 + RDNA 4 APU based portable handheld in near future, which I believe, would enable baseline 60fps gaming with med-high settings at minimum 1080p for any AAA games thrown at it.
This is an amazing machine, I use this more than my ps5. The only caveat is its battery life when in portable mode, but the 30w turbo is ❤️
Did you guys test the gpu with high performance mode and the special power mode when the ally is pluged in and uses higher wattage?
The benchmarks in this video are all on 30W mode.

It was released to the public on June 13. I haven’t gotten mine yet because I’m out of work but I should be going back to work soon.

This is a portable PC on which you can play games as well. It is more than 2 times powerful than Steam Deck BTW. The screen is 1080p, steam deck comes with 720p. If you'll play the same game on both handheld and restrict your games to 720p on Ally, this will outperform the steam deck by a wide margin like 20-30 fps.
Plus it works as a PC when connected to a screen.
I wish i could have it, It's my dream to have it...

really like it but i think that what steam did was better in some way. like there is no need for it run full win 11. Microsoft should introduce a lite version of windows for these kinds of device only for running games and maybe multimedia consumption.

I think for a few who were looking to buy a desktop this is an option as it can run windows applications as well compared to the steam deck if I am not mistaken. But purely for gaming I think 39k is much better price than 65-70k.

Keeping the screen resolution to the limited 1080p is the genius decision, avoiding the bad experience of lesser FPS for high end games.
Display seems to be of normal quality not emphasizing on the Contrast ratio and Color gamut.

For an average user, would it be better to buy this instead of a pc if the budget is around 70k? Because the specs seem to be better than most laptops and pc's in that price range. And since it has the same functionality as any other laptop or pc.

Its the rise of handheld gaming. Valve Steam Deck is a good alternative. Tough to choose between them.
Please do a comparison video for both if possible.
Side Note: They ran it on Linux and the battery life didn't change so its not a Windows issue

aside from steam deck, you can consider also the top tier gpd win or the ayaneo handhelds, but its more expensive than the ally

Got this for 56735 with icici bank discount which I think is a fair price for this console. For me 70k was a little higher side for a handheld given the battery life and not every AAA game it can run in 1080p 60 FPS, but I haven't played much PC games for quite a long time so will be plaything those😅

Price is very high if the price is goes to around 35k then it make sense other wise at 70k you can get a decent gaming laptop which will fulfil gaming and other task also
Memory card problem
With the specs it has, you will need to have it plugged to power all the time. Better get a laptop at that price, you may be able to do a lot more other than gaming.
I'm lucky to have got the 3070 XG mobile when they were available now everywhere out of stock. So this thing would be a beast of a setup. Only thing stopping me is 16gb ram. Currently my Flow has 32 GB and for certain tasks like AI I use up like 24 GB ram. I can understand why Asus didn't give 32 gigs because for a gaming handheld it would be overkill. Maybe when I have extra money I'll buy this and use as a portable music making device, apart from the gaming of course :)

Not ssd it's SD card due to overheating of the sd card slot. Also price is fair cause it's the Z1 extreme not the base model.

also if its 8 teraflops, then its wayy more powerful than 1650. but its close. so please have an actual techie who knows about these stuff. and you might wanna run cinebench again and take res/image render in consideration as well.
There’s a 3Dmark Time Spy comparison against a 1650 as well.
Tflops as a raw performance number is fine, but doesn’t work for actual comparison in-game or synthetic benchmark performance
Cinebench results were verified against own testing by ASUS.
You just need good monitor, it will be more fun.

The battery life is a bottleneck. At least 4/5 hrs is a must for any handheld device. Hopefully it will be possible in 3/4 years.
