ABOUT ME
I’m Fern! A 20-something gal living on beautiful Vancouver Island, Canada with my partner and two dogs. I like to create content on social media part time and also work as a Registered Nurse. I am interested in health and wellness - nutrition, holistic living, and exercise. I have been vegan for over 4 years and it was the best decision I’ve ever made. I have over 100 houseplants and love to share about them :) For those into astrology, I am a gemini sun, scorpio moon, & libra rising. I started out on social media with a focus on makeup/beauty/fashion and am not into it as much, but I do share on those topics from time to time. Thanks for stopping by!

One of my first buys was a prayer plant..... that was A CHOICE
Same here, but I’ve never really had a problem with it. I didn’t realize this was a plant that people struggle with. Palms on the other hand..
yikes! So hard to keep alive.
girl same! i just had to repot my prayer and im really hoping I didn't kill it :(
omg mine TOO. I was like "wow these leaves so pretty!!!" I'm having so many fricking issues with it out of the blue! I'm trying to save it but part of my wouldn't be sad if I had to chuck it:/
My first was a calathea medallion.... I didn’t know what I had done.. I killed her with too much love... root rot rip lmaooooo
Also not keeping plants clean! A dusty plant doesn't photosynthesise so good. I use the neem oil to clean my leaves, keep them shiny and help to keep the pests away! :)
I'm so bad for not doing this hahaha
Does neem oil wont clog the leaves?
& I also agree when starting out your plant journey to not overbuy! In the beginning I bought every damn plant I could find & a month or so later they no longer brought me joy, I either gave them away or let them die. I only buy what brings me joy now, but then again it may be because I'm running out of room 😬😂
Yes, exactly! I'm so picky now with what I bring home.
I'm binge watching your videos and learning sooo much. I started my plant journey during Covid and it has been so enjoyable. I've already overwatered, placed my plants in direct sunlight outside and scorched them😫 But I began researching plant care and now know better and they're rallying on 💚
Ahh thanks for watching! Good luck on your plant journey
Fern is such a fitting name for you, I love it
When I first saw your channel I was certain that it was big because of the quality of your videos and the way you seem so comfortable with the camera but theeeeen I saw that I couldn’t be farther from the truth and let me tell you, it was a shock. I love your vibe and videos so I hope your channel grows as much as your plants :)
So grateful for youtubers such as yourself for helping me with these things. In the last year I have really tried to increase my houseplant collection (yes, my fiance is starting to worry that he is going to be in the movie Jumangi soon lol) but I was doing several of these things prior to watching videos and learning. The over watering and too large of repots were my worst habits. I am doing so much better with my plant babies now.
Now if I could just afford every plant I want haha. Well, and have enough window and space to keep them all.
Hahah awe 💗 thanks so much for watching! Glad it’s helpful :)
Omg I’m so glad you mentioned subscribing! I’ve been watching/listening to you for weeeks while working and didn’t realize at all that I wasn’t subscribed 🤦🏻♀️
Thank you so much for subbing 🥰
@@wildfern 🥰❤️🥰 thank you for keeping me company all the time
This was really helpful thank you. I’ve been buying a lot of plants recently and haven’t considered pests.. also I thought bigger pots were better so that’s been helpful too!
Hey, fellow Canadian! 🇨🇦. My first time watching your channel. I love how relaxed you are, and I totally agree with everything you said. I’ve only been plant crazy for two years, 40+ plants later and only north facing windows, I’m learning which plants like me and which ones I like! I subscribed! 💕
Awe thank you so much for watching!
Great job giving information...I find figuring out plants reminds me of figuring out your teen age kids been there...I agree with your sound advice...buy what you like be mindful of water in take...keep control of pest...great job young lady...thanks happy plant life to you...
I have been dedicating alot more time learning about house plants and making sure I become a good house plant mama. So true about trying not to over buy. I already have 2 I know that are not my faves that I got because " I needed" me some plantintas. But honestly, they still make me happy because plants, over all, bring me joy and closer to my creator. Well see how it goes. Apparently I be liking expensive plants ( anthurium, begonias, some hoyas). But I love me some OG genuine philodendron heart shape babies and scindapsis.
Yes, I totally feel the same. I always get an itch to go plant shopping and get a plant just because I am craving a new one. But then I have to check myself hahah.
Great video and advice! It can be sooooo overwhelming getting so many new plants at the same time!!!! Start small, which is the opposite of what I did. 😬
Yes hahah same!!
There are some plants that I have that if I don't spray them daily they will get brown edges (in a 60-70% humidity). Spray does sometimes the trick. And helps against pests.
please make a calathea plant care and how do you properly prune dried leaves please
Thank you! Your last tip helps me realize that I need to slow down in buying plants before it’s too late. Cause I killed 3 already 💔
I love your content, I have one question since your an expert!! I have a money tree that I got a week ago, it used to look super fresh, vibrant and looked super happy and healthy, but now it just looks super droopy, miserable, the leaves are super soft, it looks tired, and overall doesn't look healthy at all. The plant came with a pot with moss on top, I think its moss, I'm pretty sure it to keep moisture in the soil, it also gets indirect sunlight, I live in CA Idk if that helps. And lastly, I only watered it once during this 7+ days I have had the plant. Please let me know what the problem is and what I can do.
Thank you you brought up a lot of great points and I am working on a few of your advice right now ,I've been a helicopter plant mom trying to let my plants tell me when they needs water and of course that water meter is the key 😄😆😅
WOW. I learned a lot! I did quarantine two plants yesterday after I saw your to do list video. 👌🏽
Yassss!
I'm one of those people that mist my plants but only because it's so fun to me lol 😂 I find it so peaceful, plus I have one of those pump misters so it doesn't hurt my hand lol. But I do love spraying, but I will say it doesn't help much 😭😂
That's totally fair hahah. It can be very calming :) That's great.
I like to use those decorative sticks for plants into the soil to see if it's wet or dry. :D
Ugh my mom is always over potting plants and it kills me 😅
This is so useful and concise and just a great video. Thank you!!
Thank YOU :)
Nice info! Though I have passed that stage while ago, for sure this video will help many many people!
I hope so! 🙌 thanks for watching x
thanks for the video! they‘re always so helpful, from you supplement video to this now
and also the point with drying plants out is really good, left my plants at home while i was at my parent‘s for three week now during the pandemic, was really freaked out that they will all die but they were just great, some have even grown more than before!
No prob!! Thanks for watching :))
i love your videos so much i feel like i finally found a passion to stick to!
I feel the same! I've gone through a lot of interests that haven't really stuck... but this one still going strong!
Just found you! Yay!! I'm a plant addict too, love your vibe and energy... cheers from Ontario.
Ok. Question about quarantining your new plants. How separate should you have them from your other plants? Like a whole separate room? Or can they be in the same room just not touching your other plants?
Good question. I used to do a whole separate room, but now all of my rooms are full of plants lol. So I just set them off to the side for awhile. The further the better but just work with the space you have.
Awesome! Thank you so much. I don’t have much space to give new plants a whole separate room so I got worried. Lol I’m loving your content btw, so glad I found your channel 😆
Thank you for the advice ❤🌿
You’re so welcome. Thanks for watching!
Love your videos!
Yep I've made every one of those mistakes and i continue making mistakes like waiting only a few days in isolation ... YIKES its not good idea , luckily I've only had fungus gnats so i bottom water now and i don't have a problem.. But I'm sure my luck will run out one-day so I'll be doing as you suggest.. Thanks for sharing (i hit all your video's like button and I've subscribed a few months ago)
Can you please let me know what you potting mix consists of. Thank you
Funny because I need a humidifier since I live in the middle of a dessert
Wow this video is really amazing! Thank you
You’re so welcome
I'm a new plant mom and this was so helpful, does anyone know any place to fund out how to care for specific plants?? 🌻💛
I'm new to your channel, new subscriber, love this tips!!!
Yay! Thank you!
I’m struggling with what I think is mealy bugs currently on a plant I got for free from a nursery. It was in bad shape and I had it thriving then one day white things stuck all over the leaves and stems and it’s been quarantined for two weeks
It does not help when the green house calls your name and you go to check out what they got in this week. Around Winnipeg we have several great suppliers of plants with so many choices and decent prices. You are right I found I am starting to narrow my choices somewhat.
Ahhh I wish we had the same selection here 😍
@@wildfern There is is one nursery on Vancouver Island called Wildwood Outdoor Living centre that I recently bought several plants from that might have something for you now or in the future, and their prices were pretty decent. The plants I ordered arrived in decent shape.
This is soooooo helpfully. I’ve done like most of these things. And I’m wondering why plant looks ill!!!
Hahaha! Awe! Glad to help :)
This video is amazing! I think I've done every single one of these things hahaha !!
Same hahah! Thanks for watching 🥰
What highlighter do you use??
Great advice!
Started with the plant obsession 2-3 weeks ago, bought so many plants I was stressed out like crazy as I just had to fall in love with calatheas of all plants, then topped it with fittonias... sadly can't have any pothos which was my go-to plant (because they are easy to care for) until I read they are toxic to cats (and I have literally nowhere to put them so they couldn't reach them (yet) :( Definitely did the overwatering and overpotting bit, yep. but so far all of them are alive :')
Ahh! It's so fun learning everything along the way though :) glad they're still alive! Enjoy the journey!
ugh i got my first 2 plants when i was like 10 and nearly i killed them both like 483883 times, but now i have my ghost succulents babies, and my money tree is starting to thrive again :)
I think all serious plant parents have gone through all of this I know I have 😂
this was so helpful! thank you!
You're so welcome! Glad you enjoyed!! x
We’re basically neighbors! Hi from Bellingham, Washington 💕
Ahh fun!! Hi!
is it bad if my plants are on a little table in my room but they dont get enough light there so i move them near my window for like 4-6 hours a day?like is is okay to move them like this?
How are they doing? I'm getting a swedish ivy in a few days and was debating on doing this exact thing.
Pebble tray doesn't do much either, unless it's a pebble bucket
Yeah I bought so many plants! And now I realized I only enjoy a few . 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️
You and me both!
Just subscribed! 🥰🌿
Good tips
You’re the best
🥰🥰
Who’re some of your favorite plantubers? 🥰
Sassy&Succulent, Bebee Plants, Plant Life in the Tropics, De La Plants, Harli G, Deya, Heart Shaped Leaves - ahhh there's so many, but that's a few of my faves!
wildfern I LOVE HARLI 😭
Damn Girl you're cute af..
Sending plant love from Montréal ✌️🌱
Plant mistakes to Aroid 😉
Haha. Ps I love your username
wildfern Thanks!
Только один раз у меня умерло растение, фиттония. И честно с ней было все ок, она даже реанимировалась, но потом умерла
New sub, Love your content! ❤️ haha what a coincidence that most of my fave youtubers are Canadian! Have you ever tried a soap+alcohol+water solution for pest control?
That's awesome! And yes I actually have just started trying that for spider mites, so we shall see.
wildfern YAYY! So far it’s been pretty good, but I’ve only done one treatment
@@wildfern has it worked for you? I'm fighting three different kinds of spider mites in my collection right now and neem oil isn't working. I'm so desperate to stop this bug apocalypse 😂😂😭
I couldn't listen to the entire video - there is something going on with the audio that is making a high-pitched sound intermittently throughout. I'll keep watching. your other videos though!
Weird! I wonder why it’s doing that. I hope that problem isnt on the others for you. Thank you 🥰
The earth is the biggest pot in the world and all the plants do OK. The problem is the overwatering not the size of the pot.
Nice video :)
hey i'd love to hangout sometime my insta is lilhobag maybe we could hit up powells books sometime
ur so cute ugh
EWWWW! Amazon links. No!
It's more to show the products I'm speaking about. It would be impossible for me to create local links for every country.
@@wildfern Hmm... maybe you should just link the product and let people look for ways to buy them.
Carissa99Xo what’s the difference? Click her links, see the product then search how you want to buy them. There’s also the same comments you see 100 times what product is that......where can I get that.....link, buy, support her, easy! I guess I don’t see a problem :)
