Interesting. I've been 'into' plants since the early 1970s - with my second oldest (circa 1973) still with me - with kids and grandkids around (now I throw out the trimmings - 'dumb cane' will take over the world, if you feel the need to keep every trimming!). So I figured I couldn't learn much from yet another house plant video coming into my suggested list; I figured wrong. With so many plants in the background, I figured you knew your stuff - so I listened on. Excellent video! A lot of good tidbits. :-) You've inspired me to delve into new varieties (quarantining first :-). Only recently began putting plants in more than one room. The thought of lugging water all over house on watering day (ok, your suggestion about stopping a watering 'day' has merit) tired me out just thinking about it. But it really wasn't so bad and having greenery in most rooms has encouraged keeping a minimalist, tidy environment. Double bonus!

I had learned that hydrogen peroxide helps fight root rot. I started mixing what I thought was hydrogen peroxide in with the water. It was a small amount, but I used it every time. Suddenly my plants started dying. I stopped using it and a couple months later I figured out that I was using isopropyl alcohol instead. I lost about 4 plants to this. I still very embarrassed.
I was having a really scattered day trying to multitask and I to this day can’t figure how I made this mistake but I poured a cup of bleach meant for the toilet in my gigantic spider plant and the cup of water in the toilet. That it ever recovered amazed me. It took a good seven month just to stop struggling. So don’t feel too bad!!!
Overwatered a cactus. Funny story of my sister, she was carefully taking care of her cactus, because it had a flower. Then I came round and saw it was one of the stick on flowers 😂
My mum keeps asking me if the flowers on my cactus are fake, got it for my birthday about a year ago. Keep telling her the flowers close a bit sometimes and one gets a little pale so has to be real. I thought for sure they would fall off, they so cute!
When I first started getting into propogating my plants I legit thought you just clip the leaves and stuck them in water until they root so I had a bunch of mason jars with leaves in them all around my house...didnt find out about the whole node thing until the leaves died lmao
This isn't about me, but my Step Dad's Mother thought cacti didn't need to be watered at all. So she had all these little cacti around her house that were like petrified brown rocks in the shape of a cactus. My Step Dad was like Mom you need to water these and she's like "I thought they got their water from the air and you never needed to water them!"
As a kid I used to have a cactus. I decided to show it my love through watering it every single day.. until a yellowy long mushroom grew next to it and the cactus was falling apart. Now I understand the meaning of „spoiled rotten“
I read that alcohol killed aphids so I thought “hey my perfume has alcohol” then proceeded to murder my string of pears. We have learned. Adapted, blossomed??? Lol
One of my worst mistakes has been throwing out my “dead” Venus fly traps in winter. Venus fly traps go dormant in winter and me being less experienced and having not done enough research thought they were dead... now over a year later I found out about their dormancy haha. (luckily I now have a very happy and healthy Venus!)
My boss had an orchid that looked.. dead and I was determined to revive it. It was in orchid mix and all the leaves were yellow. I forgot about it for a few months and somehow it bloomed. I still have it, every time I lightly mist it, it jumps out of the pot, so I just took out the bark and it chills in the pot alone, with mist once or twice a week and it has buds on it!!!!
@@MissSunshineDia I'm no expert, by any means. However, I believe: if your plant is long & stringy, but you'd like it fuller & less stringy, place part of the stringy you'd like less of back in the dirt. Hold it down gently with an open hair pin. Stand back from it to ensure how it'll look once buried. Check the pin often to be sure it's not rising above the dirt level. Once rooted & hearty, remove the pin. Enjoy!
7 minutes or so into this video I realised I'd not listened to a word you had said from being hypnotised by your eyes. Really informative for me thank you!
When I was a kid (around 5 yo), I got a small cactus that was precious to me. I read him poems etc. and one day, I decided I'll repot him into some sand because I thought that's what cactuses naturally grow from (I come from central Europe so I haven't seen a wild cactus by then - only in cartoons). Well, it died... 😔
I almost killed a beautiful fern because I never noticed a beautiful pot cover was lined with so much plastic bag material (?) it prohibited any evaporation from inside pot 😅 I changed it, dried it out in a bathroom (moisture in air & drying out at the same time, it works nice for overwatered ferns) and now it had risen from the ashes 🙌🏻
the worst mistake i ever made when i was just starting out my plant collection: i took a glass cup from my bedside table that was still half full from the night before to give one of my plant babies in my room some extra watering .... well she got sprite because i'm stupid and forgot it wasn't water 😂
When you said "this video is for you" I was like 🙋♀️. I'm a fairly new plant mum with five indoor plants but they are all thriving and I love them! Thank you for these great tips. We are moving into a new, bigger house and I can't wait to buy more and even start propagating a few in water. Loving your videos 🌱
I would bottom water one of my moms exotic angel plants, after a few weeks we noticed it dying. The pot it was in came with a built in saucer. The only thing getting wet was the bottom of the pot.
I got my first plant ever- it was a ponytail palm. It was flourishing inside my home with indirect sunlight in 70-75 degree weather for a few months. However, I always felt so sorry for it. I thought it wanted more light and an outdoor feel. On a summery 92 degrees day, I decided to give it a “special treat” by leaving it on the roof for a couple hours. I thought about bringing it back down but figured I’d leave it up there for a few more hours. I was picturing it all happy basking in the sun :) After 6 long hours I went to fetch it and every single leaf was severely sunburned and in shock!!! What a learning lesson for an amateur plant parent! 😂
SO many tips in here so grateful for this video, also the amount of times I've thought all my pants have to be watered the same amount and when I never used bamboo sticks to support the plant in the early days is so embarrassing
I honestly came here just because I wanted to just get a few plants because they filter the air and add to the aesthetic of my place and so I wanted to learn the basics of caring for them, but my god this woman is beautiful.
Thank you for all the helpful plant tips. I think cleaning my plant's leaves is something that I definitely need to get on top of. Also, I wanted to mention that I love the style of your home. It looks so beautiful with all the greenery. I love the polka dot accent wall that you have in your sunroom. Answering your question near the end of the video, the dumbest thing that I have done with one of my plants is transplant cuttings that I received in the mail from the pot they came in into a larger pot right away. I learned that the cuttings did not have a large root system so transplanting them into a larger pot kept them too wet. I also learned that breaking the cuttings apart to repot them severely stressed the plant out, causing many of the cuttings to rot off and die.
@@elyraedesigns5137 thank you! I'll try it out. I noticed my monstera has fungus gnats when I watered it last week. My sister in law told me to get mosquito bites, but I can't find them anywhere.
I moved my Money Tree when decorating for Christmas and it got SO upset!!!! I don’t know if this is funny;) I am so happy to know now that Money Trees do not like to be moved!
money trees can be such drama queens! i moved mine to the other side of my window (it was on the left of the window, and i moved it to the right. the light was even on both sides.) and some of her leaves turned yellow and drooped! i freaked out completely and tried drying her out, then putting a humidifier near her, and after none of that worked, i moved her back to where she was and about 4 days later, her leaves perked up and started getting greener. it was insane.
My mom gave me a propagated Pathos plant in a small vase of water. It was my first plant ever, she didn’t know the name of the plant and I knew nothing about indoor plants so I just assumed it needed fresh water every once in a while. It took about a year for it to die of root rot (honestly surprised it even lasted that long and produced more leaves in that time). I now have a small Flaming Katy and a few small cilantro plants that I grew from seeds, and am still new to indoor plants but hope to have more in the future
I've learned so much from growing (and tragically killing) succulents 😅 They need bright bright light, I assumed because they were so juicy that they wouldn't mind living away from the window 😭 Also it pays to spend some quality time with your plants 😅 I lost a few to pests before I committed to spending a bit of time inspecting their soil, wiping their leaves and spritzing them (spider mites like dusty environs) Plants aren't just decoration for your apartment, they're living things and deserve the best care and attention 😁💋
@Jen Lauren Are you into slow and simple living? I also share my videos about slow and simple living in Australia. You can check them out on my channel. 🙂
Nice video👍🌱 also picking up your plant is a very good indication for if it needs watering. Still heavy, no water, light, water it. Try bottomwatering, helps very good against all the insects since they lay their eggs in the top soil.
I over watered a micans propagation which was standing in a pretty cold, not very sunny bathroom near an outside wall. I kept it super damp, there was no water in the pot so I thought it was doing fine until one day all leaves where droopy. I wanted to check on the roots and noticed the plant being super lose. So I pulled and found out the root rot was so bad I had pulled the cutting out without the roots it had when I potted it. So yeeee.... The cutting is btw ok, I put it back into water after cutting off the rotten bit and it's growin new roots 😁
Hello from New Zealand Rachel. I'm a plant addict and have fortunately just discovered your channel - I'm sure I can learn a lot from you as your plants are so beautiful and healthy. Thank you.
My plant mistake in the beginning of my plant journey was not managing pests (like, at all). I had a bad outbreak of scale on my japonica's and I just let them die 😭
I fought mealy bugs in my succulents for so long oh my gosh. I got some cool little Jade plant and didn’t really think about quarantining because I had a small collection anyways. Soon all of my babies had what I *thought* was mold. I eventually just threw that jade out because every time it looked better and was doing good for a while, I would put it back and it would have another outbreak. Still can’t bring myself to get another Jade.
One time my mom gave plant food for my little orchid, the food was a blue powder, so I sprinkled some powder straight on my orchid, fast forward a few days later, my orchid is dying!. The powder was supposed to be diluted in water, so my orchid suffered chemical burns. The orchid is still alive many years later, it's a trooper this orchid.
Never watched one of your videos, this one was just recommended to me. Just want to say, I LOVE your tattoos! It's amazing how nice the sleeves continue over your hand. And thanks for the video, it was helpful👍🏻
The spider mites was exactly mine, 14 of my plants were contaminated, it was a nightmare literally to try and make everyone survive, it was time, nerves and money consumingI had one casualty and I am forever traumatised...😭😭😭😭😭😭
my kitten chewed on my Maranta and my fiance knocked it over... twice... it didn't live. I have 2 propagations from it but I left them in water for too long so now I'm hoping they survive the transition to soil
i put a cactus on my windowsill and closed the blinds so it was sandwiched between the window and the blinds. i forgot about it because i couldnt see it and when i remembered it, it had been almost a month and when I tell you this thing was fried. so dry and crispy
I love this vid 😍 I’ve not long started. In July I asked for plants for my birthday. I received an peace Lily. Within a month I had almost killed it. I’ve managed to bring it back to life and it’s now stunning, centre stage in my loungeroom. I’ve just purchased this past weekend 2 x baby monsteria & I’m looking forward to growing these 2 into big plants and enjoy. I am definitely wanting to grow and have more in my living space but for me, slow and steady wins the race
I struggle SO much with humidity for my Alocasias and just in general. I live in the very dry and cold Midwest in the States and neglected that the humidity levels were just not good for my plants.
Thanks you...just brought a plant home, plopped in with my others without thinking.....watched your video, picked it up, slapped the pot, and gnats flies!!!! I quickly sprayed with rubbing alcohol, Dr. Bronner's Castile soap, and water. Plus I sprinkled Cinnamon on the soil.....I have to buy some Cylon Cinnamon and Neem Oil. Fingers crossed.
The last one sounds like something I would've done. I've been collecting succulents for a few years now and have a few cactus & different types of bamboos, and my one Bird of Paradise. About a month ago I got 3 Monstera cuttings (as 1 plant) and two other plants from a "mini monstera/tetra" cutting. It's so exciting to see all the babies come out. Such fast growers... I love it! Beautiful plants btw. Absolutely gorgeous. Love tropical plants and can see myself collecting a few in the coming year. Might be my new obsession lol 🥰
I had little flies in my plants and thus started treating them with neem oil and these yellow stickers you hang on the plants. One of my smaller dragon trees ended up getting stuck on the yellow sticker sheet from the plant next to it, but I didn’t see that. So when I went to pick up the little tree (his name’s fred btw), I ripped off his biggest and most beautiful branch. ... ended up putting it in water and now he has a son, but oh my, what a moment...
I remember I first found your channel through plant research so I love seeing your upkeep and how it's going with them :) one of my plant fails was thinking small black bugs on a new plant was just stray soil on the lower stems, meanwhile I was concerned why the leaves started hanging so much during the first week. A few days later I took it to the sink to water it and the "soil" was a bunch of tiny black bugs eating up my plant! 😭 It got tossed out in a bag, I never had bugs before so I was lucky it wasn't near anything else. It's so important as you say to isolate new plants for a while!
I bought a plant from a big chain shop and after a while noticed things moving around in the soil😬. I think it was fungus gnat larvae. I had recently seen one of your old videos about putting cinnamon on the soil and so I tried this. Worked like a charm and so fast, next day whatever it was, it was gone or dead. So thank you, been using this trick on my plants that like moist soil. And isolating or repotting plants from shops that I don’t trust.
So interesting how I came across this video after buying an alocasia - it was putting out a new leaf and then that leaf just died!!! You're right, it dries out way faster. It has a new one growing so I'll be sure to check its soil more often! Thank you for sharing all your tips
@@marielflores3429 You're basically using the bobby pin to hold the stem/node in contact with the soil. It pins the plant down against it so roots have a chance to grow.
@@ilailayla1390 misting them daily helps mine! also if you don't have a window in your bathroom, take the plant with you when you shower or take a bath. Then just put it back when you are done. lots of work but helps tremendously!!
I learned to quarantine my plants the hard way. I had a whole bunch of small roses in a variety of colors, and I brought in another one from the local grocery store (yyyeaahh, I know) and boom, I had a massive spider mite infestation that got all of my roses. I stayed away from roses from years since :( Now I keep all my new plants separate from the others for up to half a year, because I just don't want to risk it!
Great tips, Thankyou! I’ve just started propagating recently, with some devils ivy and cactus. So many more little green babies to add to my collection 🌿x
Your plants are simply gorgeous. Mine are thriving too. I found feeding them orchid liquid fertilizer makes them luschier and greener. Most of mine are propergated and in semi hydroponic. No watering issues. This helps with the humidity too. Enjoy the festive season🙋♀️💐
THOSE ARE GREAT TIPS!! I use to keep my Neem oil spray in the bathroom next to my cleaning sprays so when I took my Hindu rope to the tub to wash it off and water it I sprayed it with bleach bathroom cleaner and it took me a while to realize it was bleach that I was smelling I must say my Hindu rope has not had a pest infestation since and has grown so much! But at the moment I felt stupid I thought my plant was gonna die.
My plant mistake at the beginning of my plant journey was watering too much! My cactus died because I didn't know cactus doesn't need to be water like other plants. Thank you so much Rachel for always sharing your plants care tips! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOUR PLANTS!
Well my plant zamiifolia was thriving, beatyfull and healthy. I gave it a new pott and just buried it into blank soil in to the ceramic bot (with out any other cup).. so it started dying, because it stayed wet for weeks on end and i kept watering it hoping to save it.. in the end i just got all the wet ass soil out and gave it new airy soil and another cup in the pot, so the water gets out there.. 🥰
I use to just pinch my plants like you pinch yourself to test if your dreaming and was always wondering how it was supposed to promote new growth....then i lernt you have to actually cut and replant lol
I tried to make a little basil herb planter for my boyfriend for Valentines day, and as i was finishing up I read the package of fertiliser which said to water after putting it in your mix.... So i basically throughly watered this whole bed of BASIL not realising that its a bottom watering bed system and i had to keep tipping water out of it!!! The next day when my boyfriend came over i had to hand him really sad and limp basil!! I told him if it doesnt recover ill plant him new basil
my plant mistake is that i never fertilized. i followed an ethos that i was raising “hardcore special forces navy seal” plants that i need to toughen them up
My boyfriend and I had bought these plant light bulbs that gave off this great pink light. We called them our basking lamps. We didn't have it on a timer or anything we just used it.all the time. That year, I was working at a garden center, and so I got all these beautiful annuals in the more rare colors, quite a while before the last threat of frost. I thought the plant light would not bother them. It wouldn't have, but since I didn't have the light on a schedule, and because I put them so incredibly close to the lamp, all the annuals blooms got faded out, and they stopped blooming. And I pretty much ruined them. Maybe not as much of a laugh, as just plain stupid. It's funny how obvious things seem after you find out what you did. Thanks for the tips. You made a very enjoyable video. Great look, great style, great voice, accent, lighting, everything. I subscribed. Do you have any tips for Jade plants? My dad loves those ones but they seem to never do too well. I also killed an Anthurium recently, which I was sad about, because those blooms r so cool.
White oil is an insecticide spray used for controlling a wide range of insect pests in the garden. The spray works by blocking the breathing pores of insects, causing suffocation and death. It is effective in the control of aphids, scale, mealybug, mites, citrus leaf miner and smooth skinned caterpillars.[1] "White oil" is also an alternative name for mineral oil.[2] I found this on wikipedia ☺
My first ever lucky bamboo I treated like all my other plants - put in soil, put in a pot with draining holes, watered it with the rest of my plants (once in the morning before the sun comes out) and slowly watched one of them die Xd. Now I keep it in small river rocks and keep it in a pretty display pot with no holes.
Thank you for this video. I am new to indoor plants and am motivated to continue with these new pointers. Also! The dress you are wearing in the video @13:00 is stunning. What is the brand?
Some plants you will only grow/ be able to keep alive if you have actual proper lighting/ a greenhouse, proper humidity, etc. Great indoor housecare tips overall love!
I repotted 2 plants from their nursery pots in autumn in the uk so cold and miserable with no sun..... thought they’d grow bigger in a bigger pot and half the leafs died. What a surprise, biggest plant regret. Now I leave them
So new plant mum here, I've had a few mistakes so far but only one major mistake (soon more will follow im sure, terrified of hurting my big beautiful monsteras). I've put a regular plant in a terracotta pot in a low light corner because it said online it could handle low light? Realised i don't check my corners and straight up forgot to water it for a week or two. In a terracotta pot. A plant with regular watering needs. Suffice to say it dried right tf out and then I tried to fix it by watering it - got carried away - root rot - casualty number 1 in my new plant adventure.
Thank you so much for this awesome information! It's exactly what I needed, and it was so simply put and concise! 🥰 And please, do you remember where you got that white dress from? 😍
I had a cat palm as my first plant and every week ended up trimming dead pieces until it was a nub. Lol I was so sad it was so pretty. I just used tap water but it immediately started turning brown on the tips and then I switched to filtered water (our drinking water) and it started getting better but I think our house has too little light for it to thrive. Anyways, planning to try again with some philodendron that I’m going to hang by my bedroom window, doesn’t get the most amazing light but much brighter than where the cat palm was (away from windows). Thanks for the tips on the neem oil. I’m a big fan of plants but hate bugs and a very big fear of spiders sooooo definitely doing this for the joy but to also get more comfortable with handling/managing live things lol
I am sooooo sad at the moment because ALL of my plants have trips as if it came from nowhere. And it's on every plant even though they are far apart. I just don't know where it came from and how I could miss it. 50% of my plants have died because of this :/

Damn I legit just threw away my dead orchids 💀
I left my beautiful big peace Lily on the floor and my house mates rabbit jumped into the pot and ate the whole thing! 😱🐰
Both survived 🤣
That is a lucky rabbit
Oh no!! I keep killing my water lily somehow ... no one to blame 🤷🏻♀️😆
The hairpin hack is actually a really great idea, thanks! Been wondering how in the world to get my trailing plants to look thicker/fuller.
I didn’t understand what she did, could you explain?
@@MissSunshineDia I'm no expert, by any means. However, I believe: if your plant is long & stringy, but you'd like it fuller & less stringy, place part of the stringy you'd like less of back in the dirt. Hold it down gently with an open hair pin. Stand back from it to ensure how it'll look once buried. Check the pin often to be sure it's not rising above the dirt level. Once rooted & hearty, remove the pin. Enjoy!
you must have amazing air in your house holy crap
7 minutes or so into this video I realised I'd not listened to a word you had said from being hypnotised by your eyes. Really informative for me thank you!
When I was a kid (around 5 yo), I got a small cactus that was precious to me. I read him poems etc. and one day, I decided I'll repot him into some sand because I thought that's what cactuses naturally grow from (I come from central Europe so I haven't seen a wild cactus by then - only in cartoons). Well, it died... 😔
I’m sorry for your loss 😔
Reading poetry to a cactus is one of the sweetest things I’ve ever heard. I can just picture it. 💜
@@urbanpoodle i thought the same thing 🥺
That is how we learned as kids... before google 😁🤷🏻♀️
You can plant it in Sand. Not optimal but Not too Bad either. So it died bc of an other reason.
Loving your videos 🌱
not me immediately repotting my online orders that i totally planted with moss still intact
crisis adverted phew
Planted flowers in a pot with no drainage holes and was surprised pikachu face when they got root rot. Haven’t made that mistake since.
Oh my gosh, that Monstera in the background is the most beautiful I have ever seen!
Me: already knows how to care for my plants
Me again: still watches this video
Lol, same
Then can I use just regular McCormick ground cinnamon for fungus gnats? Or do I have to use the one she mentioned?
@@Gee5425 Cinnamon powder is pretty effective.
@@elyraedesigns5137 thank you! I'll try it out. I noticed my monstera has fungus gnats when I watered it last week. My sister in law told me to get mosquito bites, but I can't find them anywhere.
haha Same!
I took home a piece of cactus I found at the dump, forgot about it in my garage for 2 weeks, set it in my succulent garden and now it's thriving XD
I need to try that hairpin trick TONIGHT! I have so many pothos that need this!
I’m so excited to try the hairpin idea to make my pothos/philodendron thicker! Honestly have no idea how I haven’t thought of it before
My mom gave me a propagated Pathos plant in a small vase of water.
Where did you get that pool-like surface that you use for repotting? I need something like that and I have no idea how to google it.
Amazon has them, it's a repotting mat!
I've learned so much from growing (and tragically killing) succulents 😅 They need bright bright light, I assumed because they were so juicy that they wouldn't mind living away from the window 😭
Also it pays to spend some quality time with your plants 😅 I lost a few to pests before I committed to spending a bit of time inspecting their soil, wiping their leaves and spritzing them (spider mites like dusty environs)
Plants aren't just decoration for your apartment, they're living things and deserve the best care and attention 😁💋
NEEDED this!!! trying to become a better plant mom during the winter in nyc ah
That's exciting Jen! 🙂
@@awildandsimplelife thank you!! i'm trying LOL
YES! no plant likes low light! given the chance, theyd like more light and theyd grow more
I over watered a micans propagation which was standing in a pretty cold, not very sunny bathroom near an outside wall. The cutting is btw ok, I put it back into water after cutting off the rotten bit and it's growin new roots 😁
i wish you placed a name next to each of the plants you featured, theyre gorgeous
This video came at the best time! My poor dying plants are ready to come back to life!!
Noooooo 😭😭😭 that’s so unfortunate
me too 😓 i know better now. i let my majesty palm die 🥲
It’s a struggle to tackle pests sometimes for sure! But worth it and very rewarding!
Please drop the info on that stunning wrap dress, Jesus it’s gorgeous
Isn't it gorgeous! I thought it majestic! And she's so gorgeous
Never watched one of your videos, this one was just recommended to me. Just want to say, I LOVE your tattoos! It's amazing how nice the sleeves continue over your hand. And thanks for the video, it was helpful👍🏻
The spider mites was exactly mine, 14 of my plants were contaminated, it was a nightmare literally to try and make everyone survive, it was time, nerves and money consumingI had one casualty and I am forever traumatised...😭😭😭😭😭😭
boy would i love to be that friend that was gifted a thai constellation baby🥰
My son one day decided to pluck my zz plant like a chicken. Omg I was so mad. But now it’s thriving.
my kitten chewed on my Maranta and my fiance knocked it over... twice... it didn't live.
Thank you UA-cam for the recommendation.
I am enamored!
That's it, expanding slow and steady! So great to hear you were able to bring your peace lily back to life ✨
I struggle SO much with humidity for my Alocasias and just in general.
Sooooo adorable! And, the plants, too! Thank you for great plant advice!💚💚💚
🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
The last one sounds like something I would've done. I've been collecting succulents for a few years now and have a few cactus & different types of bamboos, and my one Bird of Paradise. About a month ago I got 3 Monstera cuttings (as 1 plant) and two other plants from a "mini monstera/tetra" cutting. It's so exciting to see all the babies come out. Such fast growers... I love it! Beautiful plants btw. Absolutely gorgeous. Love tropical plants and can see myself collecting a few in the coming year. Might be my new obsession lol 🥰
I love Rachel's content but what I love the most is her earrings!! I want a pair :D
They're a fab pair from Ellery, super nice but I don't think they're available anymore :---((((
@@idcnouvelles aww! sold out :/
Hi again Rachel!! I've been into indoor plant care since 2012 and I'm still learning lol, thank you for sharing!! Your plants are BEAUTIFUL!!💖🌱🙏🏼
I’m so glad it has a happy ending!
Oh yuck! So glad the cinnamon helped 🌱
So interesting how I came across this video after buying an alocasia - it was putting out a new leaf and then that leaf just died!!! You're right, it dries out way faster. It has a new one growing so I'll be sure to check its soil more often! Thank you for sharing all your tips
I use paper clips instead of hair clips ;)
Im learning so much though!!! I need pearlite!
can you explain more what she meant by the bobby pin? what is this process called and how does it work?
@@marielflores3429 You're basically using the bobby pin to hold the stem/node in contact with the soil. It pins the plant down against it so roots have a chance to grow.
Great advice on the watering frequency!🦉
me watching this after i just planted my alocasia in the moss it came in the mail in 😳😂😂
I just got a plant today and it had moss on my plant, and I saw your video and I ran and got my plant! Thank you for the save. lol
The dumbest thing i've ever done is buying calatheas, i've bought like 4 of them and they always die
Sameee they need so much humidity 😩
I keep mine in my windowless bathroom. It has survived! And I kill a lot of plants. Lol
@@ilailayla1390 misting them daily helps mine! also if you don't have a window in your bathroom, take the plant with you when you shower or take a bath. Then just put it back when you are done. lots of work but helps tremendously!!
Difficult plants but with absolutely gorgeous foliage. I had it once but never again, sadly.
@@stina_mcclure5247 they don't miss the sunlight? I'd love some plants in my bathroom but I have no window in there and worry about them dying
Best indoor plant care rip: get a grow light. They are super inexpensive and helps make sure your plants always get enough light to grow
I had a cactus 🌵 and forgot I set it by our window a/c while I went on a weekend trip. I can back to a moldy squirmy cactus 😩😅
OHH I needed that cinnamon on the soil trick. Thank youuu
I told him if it doesnt recover ill plant him new basil
my plant mistake is that i never fertilized. i followed an ethos that i was raising “hardcore special forces navy seal” plants that i need to toughen them up
Lol. What do you fertilize your plants with? And I've heard mixed things about fertilizing in the winter? (It's winter where I am)
@@WhiteRose20000 just magic grow and those slow release pellets. sorry cant relate to winter. Im at the equator. Its hot and humid everyday
Rachel, what was the oil you said could be used when cleaning the leaves? I caught neem but what was the first one? Thanks.
White oil is an insecticide spray used for controlling a wide range of insect pests in the garden. The spray works by blocking the breathing pores of insects, causing suffocation and death. It is effective in the control of aphids, scale, mealybug, mites, citrus leaf miner and smooth skinned caterpillars.[1] "White oil" is also an alternative name for mineral oil.[2]
I found this on wikipedia ☺
Suffice to say it dried right tf out and then I tried to fix it by watering it - got carried away - root rot - casualty number 1 in my new plant adventure.
it is still early in Indonesia, and I have my coffee. so.. it's a perfect timing video! 🥰🤣
Thank you good tips. Just bought a new plant. I will quarantine.
Thank you so much for this awesome information! It's exactly what I needed, and it was so simply put and concise! 🥰
And please, do you remember where you got that white dress from?
Gosh those earrings Rachel 😍
Great minds think alike.
Paused this video twice to order both perlite and neem oil. Thanks for saving my plants life! 😅
I am sooooo sad at the moment because ALL of my plants have trips as if it came from nowhere. And it's on every plant even though they are far apart. I just don't know where it came from and how I could miss it. 50% of my plants have died because of this :/
