I think the time-limited adventures were much more detrimental to the overall state of the game. As soon as adventures started that’s when things started being delayed in seasons

Few of us adults have time for these timed events and these events aren't why we play. They can be fun but they need to focus on the things that bring us here to begin with.

They just need to drop the season system and release updates when they're ready, but do monthly events every months, and perhaps those weekly adventures for lore. that takes a lot of pressure away for the devs, and a lot of disappointment from us because the seasons are getting extended
I disagree totally. If they went to “their own schedule” without any pressure, there would be no updates ever again. Rare needs the pressure and deadlines to keep updates coming.
I feel like introducing the season system was their mistake. If they drop it now, everyone will miss it and feel like there‘s nothing to do. Before the seasons, we got along very well. But they can’t go back anymore…
Regular periodic seasons are the best thing you can do for a live service game. if you let them release things when "they are ready" you will get things like WoW with 18 months of no new content
I love sea of thieves, though i am super introverted and it would be fun to have the option to just load a single player server and play it without worry. I love the feel of just sailing on the open sea in the beautiful game, and delivering cargo, or fishing, or occasionally going on cool quests. The thing that made me quit was sweats and hackers who would just obliterate you every 10 min. Love the game, but a bit more chill friendly features would for sure make me pick it up again!
Maybe a private lobby option or something. Another reason i quit is because of constant crashes for no reason. Would really annoy me when i was super immersed in sailing and BOOM crash outta no where for no reason

I've been loving seeing people who play only SoT branch out and try other things lately.
I think the interesting thing about SoT viewers is they only want to watch SoT. Which makes sense, because as you said- it really is one of the greatest multiplayer games despite all it's current issues.
SoT really does stand alone which is why I think it's a bit more difficult to branch out to other games.
Where as if your main game is something like Dead By Daylight.. it branches into the whole horror genre. Or if you play only Fortnight, there are tons of FPS options out there- or other battle royale type games.
But there really is nothing quite like Sea of Thieves.

People seem to think Rare “doesn’t listen to the community” or “don’t care about their game” and I’m glad you didn’t fall into that nonsense in this video.
There are some very real and very major problems with SoT, but that hyperbole isn’t part of it.
Saying they don't care is ridiculous. It's a business of course they do. The issue, I believe, has been misguided direction, development, and bad decisions.
@@ck6553 I don’t know I’d say they’re focused on that group because it’s less hassle, but it’s definitely because of the money aspect. The game doesn’t exist without paying the bills, so they’re going to do what pays the bills best. And I’m saying this as someone with 5,000 hours in the game doing mainly PVP: we are not the target customer.
Solid video and I'm excited to see variety content from ya! Really glad you brought up the cannibalization of Season 11 to "fix" Season 10...Rare's mentioned that they're *still* experiencing knock-on effects from Captaincy being delayed last year, so I don't see a scenario in which merging seasons 10 and 11 doesn't result in problems going forward.
the fact we still haven’t gotten all of 2022’s content from that roadmap is actually absurd. I love this game to absolute tears but this fact annoys me more and more every day that passes

They grabbed a big meaty fish by the tail and slapped it across our faces with these 7 day challenge events trying to bridge the time gap. Fingers crossed for this hinted pvp content but Season 10 will be a make or break point for a lot of players. I’ve been here since the alpha tests and i’m not going anywhere but the average player is definitely falling off. Everything about this video was 100% spot on
My husband, son and I play SoT and we agree with you. We can think of a lot of ideas for making the sandbox adventure experience ongoing entertainment versus all the effort put into short-lived tall tale moments. The current Wish You Were Here event has given us a new energy. Because we all want the cartography tats.
I fear the game is beyond saving now. It's been in this state for way too long, and rare's future plans seem to indicate it will continue in this trajectory.

I really miss old SoT where every one was having fun, Arena was still a thing and rare was not removing features from the game that have already been nerfed to help casual players and lower the skill gap. most of the SoT's old hardcore players have quit or are quitting because of the lack of content and rare steering the game towards people who play the game for 3 hours on game pass, get kegs dropped on them by two pirates who think they are fighter jets... and then they quit. its only the veterans that are holding out through this trying to see light at the end of the tunnel, but it feels like that light is slowly getting further away. every. single. day. :(
For me i would just love Arena back just as something to do and to re - live old sot and remember what the game used to be. (im not expecting Arena back btw) i know it wont happen
but i have been looking at Steam Charts since season 6 and back then it was like "oh no we only have 17k people on" so yeah it was below 20k for lows and average was around 35k
now we are lucky to get over 15k peak and lows are around 4k. it has really got bad.
And if Season 10 does not SERIOUSLY deliver then to be honest this will be it for the game.

Took a break after grinding hourglass because there was nothing to do... Checked back recently and still nothing to do... Shame!
My friend said it’s like a water tank with a hole in it. The hole is making water leak out, and instead of patching up the hole they keep trying to add water and then wonder why it’s still draining, then add more water. This water is the new players, and the water draining out is the old players. Then those new players realize what this game is and how crippled it is, and then eventually leave like the water flowing out. It’s an endless cycle that is breaking this game.
The beginning of the end was when seasons were introduced. It created an expectation and a demand that pressured the devs to dish out updates and release them before they were ready.

Such a good video and really reaffirms my decision to keep looking for a game that fits my brand. It sucks because I was really enjoying making videos for this game, but you're right... how many "we stole a COL/COF from a toxic crew" videos can we really make before we get bored? Where's the new stuff? I'd love to see new mechanics like swinging from the ropes on the mast, weapon attachments, and fun replayable adventures that make you feel like you did something heroic rather than just triggering the next cut scene. Also, hit reg fix would be nice, but at this point it wouldn't even be enough to get me back on the seas. I need to see the sandbox expanded!

I agree. I feel the game needs a fairly regular stream of new content, new gameplay mechanics, new islands, bigger map, and anything else to keep gameplay fresh, but all we got was some story mode stuff I will never see as I have no interest in that kind of thing in any game I play. Multiplayer and nothing else.

Tbh, I think Rare knows all this, but they are 10 steps ahead. The game was finished before season 1 was released. They realized they couldn't keep the content updates going for financial or other reasons, so they thought, might as well milk the cow. So they made deals with Disney and whoever was interested to make these "spin-off" stories, to make sure they were covered financially. They are just riding the wave, and they will keep at it till no one is left.

The last time I played SoT was 3 months ago. I have 2k hours of playtime and this game has just gotten so freakin repetitive now and i don't think I am gonna play it ever again
I just want more fun sandbox things to actually change the way you play the game and add variety. new in-game world events to play through and get loot. permament places too like the skeleton forts, waiting around for a world event to spawn can suck. there's still a lot of potential for sea of thieves.
What you described with their approach to lore, Resident Evil had the same thing happen qhen the movies and RE 4 ended up being a huge success. they ended up drifting away from the horror, and becoming a lame action series. it took them until Resident Evil 7 to truly rediscover why people played Resident Evil in the first place.
Rare has an issue internally with the Peter Principal. There were promotions to people (I won't say names that's rude) that are now in a position they are no longer competent. They were great at their last position but they are no longer qualified at their current position. It's not speculation that when certain people got new positions that the game took a big turn downhill in terms of long term content. I am not a designer, but have played enough games over my life to know when something isn't going to stick. You don't need a degree to know the quest board was a bad idea. Fireworks as seasonal content was a bad idea. That type of content is suited for mid patch updates, not show piece seasonal content.
Consumers aren't responsible for caring what goes on internally, they just want a good game that's fun to play. The content creators have invested copious amounts of time to build a following playing the game but if they aren't having fun, they will move on to other games that are. They aren't responsible to keep the game relevant, they are responsible for keeping their content entertaining. Hard to be entertaining when they themselves aren't being entertained by a game's lack of variety. The constant focus for onboarding new players and refusing to acknowledge existing issues before adding new things is detrimental to the core game. I always loved SoT for the potential it had and for a while it was growing and becoming better and better. Then something changed with that and they stopped adding new things that were fun and made you want to log in to engage in.
Something that still makes me very sad, is that we still have yet to see the consequences for use deciding whether to join flameheart to help make his return or to assist the ghost captain guy to help keep him down. I don't even remember his name its been so long. He's just been in a painting on reaper's hideout this entire time. They said "oh the effects of that decision will come along sometime in the future" its been over 2 years since then. The game is going downhill VERY fast. Why even have seasons if you can't do more than 2-3 a year? You can't call them seasons if they aren't a season based model.
The one thing that gives me hope is the statement from the devs that season 10 will be their last 'foundational' change for a while. The term foundational implies it won't be feature heavy but will provide a framework they can use for future features. It seems that they considered the updates from captaincy onward to be foundational (aside from 9 being just QoL).
They've stated that future updates after should be more feature heavy and SHOULD require less dev time since they don't need to uproot old systems or provide a fresh coding base to accomplish them. I hope that simply means a return to consistent update times. Something new to do (for more than just an hour or two) every few months with an event or two between is all I'd ask. Let's hope they can pull it off.
Oh, and as for other content, I always love your Deceive Inc stuff so I'll definitely be tuning in for those!
This makes me so sad but its to be expected. I love this game but holy fuck i got so burnt out and every time i think about jumping back on the game I just feel like Im about to do chores. I have so many good memories of this game but Ive just sunk what feels like my maximum capacity of hours into it. Yet I dont want it to go away forever and want others to have fun. Im gonna be so sad when this shuts down but at the same time im expecting it at some point.
i jumped off tf2 cause i gave it up, join to csgo, dead, jumped now to SOT after years of not playing it, and now this shit happens...

I love this game so much. However the thing that frustrates me is that they expect their playerbase to police the servers for them. How am I to know let alone report that another player on that gally is using ESP/Aimbot? You know, in that season 8 podcast, they said they knew that cheating would become a problem with the introduction of the pvp curses, and it's gotten worse from there. Currently, cheaters are ripe in hourglass and are now spilling over in Adventure, where they clear servers before moving on to the next. I record, edit the clip so it's under 50mb (per their policy), type out a synopsis of what happened, submit it, all of which takes around 30-45min, wait 24-48hrs later to see they've been banned, when the cheater just makes a new account in 5min. I go to their forums and make a post about it, only for the mods there to lock it, saying to simply report them. I'm just one example here, and speaking for myself, I feel ignored, and that it's pointless and a waste of my time to report. A few days ago we fought other ships for the FotD, opened the vault, to find nothing. Who do you report in cases like this? Reporting does nothing. Posting on their forums gets locked. At this point, it feels as if Rare has no control over their own game anymore, and they predicted this back in season 8 and it's only getting worse. How can players fulfill objectives if the game is being overrun by cheaters? I don't know what's on the horizon for season 10, but at this point, I'm concerned. If history is anything to learn from, they'll glamorize the new season while sweeping the cheating problem under the rug. I really wish partners and streamers could band together and be a voice louder than ours here about this problem,. We love this game. I just wish Rare would too, because lately it feels as if they're handing their players off to other games. Oh look. Monkey Island /facepalm.
I had a guy constantly teleporting and spawning kegs on my ship a few days ago. It wasn't even in hourglass, I had just started my session.
After months that shit is still going on. I'm starting to doubt Rare's ability to stop the cheaters.
This game could be the best ever but we definitely need a strong anticheat asap.

Yet they continue spending time, money and resources into other areas of the game, ignoring the fact that their ship has a massive leak in it as players and streamers are leaving for other games. Instead of spending time and money on developing Monkey Island, couldn't that have gone to fixing the invisible rock near the Arena Tavern? Looking into hit reg? Fix the ladder launch exploit? Oh, but the infinite supply glitch and the fish from Monkey Island giving you a lvl 5 flag fast gets fixed so fast it makes your head whirl. Wasn't season 9 supposed to be a quality of life update? Instead, they keep making ridiculous posts on FB asking what your favorite island is, or which monkey is the best etc. It feels like they're mocking their players now with "Wish you were here," challenge goals. Clearly they're so out of touch with their playerbase and reality, it's arguably laughable now. As I type this, I'm about to join my crew on a gally, and I promise you, we're going to encounter a cheater and just log. Oh but look, Monkey Island!
@@centurionpetrus1784 I have around 2-3k hours in this game. I'm not going to lie, it's getting to the point of frustration. Clear cheaters in hourglass, so many cheaters on legends week, and the servers are obviously going to be filled with cheaters come community day weekend on the 30th.
What's the point in playing on a community day weekend when you know if you're doing any big stacks or doing extremely long hourglass streaks if your just going to get destroyed by cheaters?
If there is absolutely no mention of anticheat in the trailer tomorrow, that's a full uninstall for me. I'm sorry, but the state of the game needs to be addressed hard.

I sell my loot very often and sell my hourglass after max 4 victories, all this just because of the cheaters.
SoT's anticheat is a joke. If Rare remains unable to fix the issue I will uninstall too. I love this game but there are other games and most of them have a decent anticheat.
I find it particularly sad that Rare made capitaincy a thing not too long ago so that players could finally feel like they have their own ship with their achievements and etc, but now all we get is exposition from NPCs we don't really like about a lore that we're not really keeping track just for some cosmetics. The most interesting thing they made the past few updates was the Chest of Fortune because it creates conflict between players, but even that is just a Chest of Legends painted white.
I’m a relatively new Sea of Thieves player, who deeply enjoyed the Monkey Island telltales since I’m an OG. But this game has really some major flaws… hitboxes not registering, cheaters, messed up economy, the fact that it’s impossible to replay old adventures… truly a wasted of potential.

man i went from playing 4 nights a week with my crew to all of us stopping at once because we got over it, not excited for the new stuff and got tired of cheaters. So many things needed to be fixed and were never addressed. i do like the monkey island stuff but i liked it before SOT as a stand alone game and the adventures does monkey island justice, but its not enough to save the game. too many exploits and bugs and my crew doesn't want it anymore, so we haven't opened the game in 6 months.
I have a theory that Rare has been forced into releasing story content as a way of stalling because they cant add more content to the sandbox without further performance problems. Maybe if microsoft allowed them to use better servers and they brought in some super-nerd contractors to fix the optimisation issues
They would need to drop the day one Xbox from the servers. The main problem with the performance issues stems from how things are rendered.
In other open world online games like GTAO or NMS, the only things being rendered for you are just what's in your direct line of sight and nothing more. Because of the way this game is made, everything is being rendered for you at once and that effects performance.
They need to fix AMD graphics cards

Hey Blurbie! Thank you for this video, rarely I agree with most points that streamers and partners make, as you guys have different approach to certain aspects (time, money, learning curves) than a casual player.
But here I am nodding my head to almost everything you've said :D AND IT HAD TO BE SAID!!! SoT is in a worrying state and what holds the community together is the fact that we want to see SoT being the best game it can be and that's also why we worry so much these days.
I'm not really into PvP in SoT, but I'm looking forward to the S10 nonethless, some player interactions could be still fun over it :D

You should get together with some other content creators and release a video with just a bunch of good ideas to make Sea of Thieves a better game! Maybe Rare will watch it and take some of those ideas to add to the game. They can be simple ideas like adding a bunch of NPCs to outposts to make them feel more alive, or ain't the sea dog tavern back into the game as a server hub to meet other players looking to pvp hg..
Slight Rant:
I was a day one player way back when I still mainly played games on the XBox One. I probably played for about six months give or take, got halfway through leveling up the three factions at the time, and called it. Between playing solo, not being great at the game, the constant toxic crews, and frankly a complete lack of things to do or diverse quests, I packed up and moved on.
Fast forward until summer of last year, and I got back in the game by happenstance when a mutual friend wanted to try it with a few of his friends. While they all played once and never looked back, I got hooked (this was around the sea fort update, and even just goofing off with no consequence at the time it was enough to get me to come back full time). Soon enough I hit pirate legend, experienced the new content I had missed since I was gone, and had a lot of fun even though I was essentially only ever solo. Just going at my own pace doing voyages while listening to UA-cam on my other monitor was enjoyable. But soon enough, I leveled all my main factions to max (minus Athena, I just don't hate myself enough to constantly do Veils). And once I hit Reaper 75 during a community day after the start of Season 9 earlier this year, and at the same time also had most cosmetics I really wanted (that didn't require infrequent and annoying Generous Gifts), and also found myself with little else to accomplish but world events (which are a no-go solo) and hourglass battles (which are also a no-go, when only facing modders or the most cracked players), I slowly fell off again. I had completed the battle pass effortlessly within a day just by playing the game, I had completed all of the Emmisary rewards for each faction since I returned to the game, and there was no news on when more would be added, and despite all the content I had done in the several months since returning it felt like it was day one again. Nothing new or exciting.
Fast forward and I had gotten some of the cosmetics I really wanted after beginning Insiders after coming back to the game, no new content had been added, Season 9 kept getting delayed (blatently but silently even), and the biggest thing in the game was a promotion for voyages locked behind obsurd social media challenges. The game literally wouldn't even let you play the voyage and do the in-game puzzles until you boosted their social media sites for a reward only a select few would get something of long-term value for. No new adventures, no new content, and the modders I had always heard about came in full force and I seemed to get them endlessly. So not only did I have nothing to prove or really seriously progress any further, but any progress or activities I did try to do even in the open world would openly and blatantly be griefed. Record the evidence, send it to Rare, and they ban the player. And then the next session, I just encounter another, despawning my loot and kegging my ship, and making me wonder why the hell I even play anymore.
Honestly, anyone who has consistently played the game since launch in the years where I gave up on it and only came back by chance, much less continuously make content for it, have far more patience for this game than I do. Despite how much I love it, and the memories I have now and the feelings I felt at times, I just can't lie and say the game is in a good place. I supported Halo Infinite for nearly a year, financially and verbally, despite it's obvious flaws until I finally fell into a similar situation and had to just be blunt with myself. Around the same time I got back into SoT, and for a time I was doing the same but it didn't feel like lying to myself or anyone because I genuinely was enjoying myself and the content. But now that I'm in the same boat as many players, waiting for drip-fed content and just hoping it's even worthwhile, I just can't do it anymore. I stopped playing several months ago, and despite them making some changes like bringing back old cosmetics you have to get currency for, that I really wanted before, I don't see the point in grinding further for a coat in a game I don't even play anymore. Eventually I stopped even getting on Insiders for the weekly rewards, despite doing so religiously before.
The game isn't dead. But by god it sure seems like it. Like any game when you come in years down the line and experience everything like it's new, it's hard to see the issue with something actually new not coming out for nine months. But when you spend that nine months getting up to speed and completing most things like everyone else, it soon becomes more and more apparent. And it's so sad because the game is great, generally. But it's ironic that the same issue I ran into over five years ago now is the same issue I experience in the modern day.
As a new player with about 60 hours until I quit.
The content isn't the issue. The community is.
I love spending half an hour on a quest just to get sunk for a chest worth 200 gold.
If this is "one of the best multiplayer experiences out there" I'm glad I avoid multiplayer games like the plague.
They need to populate the taverns. And include small mini games like dice, arm wrestling and knife throwing at a target (like a game of darts)
I hope Sea of Thieves gets better because I really enjoy the game. We actually found a bug that happened when we saved a rowboat from sinking with the ship. It created a ghost boat.
Sad part is, I only started this season (9) and dropped off after 100 in Guardians. After the pure torture that dealing with other players is. Legends Week? Was nothing about Legends, just hackers. People could teleport Chest of Fortunes out, before the fort was done. So you fought to the death, for nothing. Empty vault.

Same. I only started like 3 or 4 months ago, but already have over 700 hours played. And my attachment to the game will probably have me playing until the day the servers are shut down... regardless of the game's state when that time comes.
@@MrValdac it will come back. Rare just needs to bite the bullet and come to a conclusion on how to get rid of the cheating. Perhaps stop all development Ideas and focus on the quality of life updates, hit reg, spawn times, etc.. before adding new content. Because that's what the community wants. @@Jesse-zr8cz Yeah, the cheating problem is wild. Granted, I have only come across 2 CLEAR cheaters in my time playing. The kind who teleport to your ship and keg you within seconds of starting an HG match.
But with how much people talk about it... it makes me wonder just how many closet cheaters are out there. Since the game has no built in anti-cheat, things like ESP would be essentially impossible to prove through reports alone... giving cheaters free reign.
I think the only way to bring in new players is to have some private or PvE servers. As a returning player or new players, all the sweaty people that keep running our shit before we can even truly learn the game is a quick turn off to casual players. So I would agree that if they don’t want to bring in these server types they should focus on the players they currently have since they are at least enjoying the game in its current pvp state.
Fundamentally there's also the fact that it's just an older game, and it's a PVP only game. As much as I would never have it change, just being a PVP only game really limits the potential audience this game will ever have ... This game / genre is very different than say call of duty or other shooters. It's never going to amount those numbers.
I personally don't play too often. Maybe a few weeks a year if that. I just don't feel any motivation to play the game with the seasonal content stuff. I hate season passes and what they do to games, time-gating content. I rather just not participate in a game that's going to artificially keep content away from me because I didn't log in at the right time to play. That's the case I'll just not play it too much.

SoT could literally be refreshed from the ground up if they updated their weapon sandbox. That could be in the form of adding a new weapon or reworking weapons. Just something, it’s a multiplayer game give something new to engage with other players with rather than environment
Absolute Pixel made a good point about being better that the high seas will have more people actually up for PvP so less scuttling when you engage, which I’m good with, IF they fix the issues with empty servers. Fix the way they funnel players into servers to keep them full. It’s beyond obnoxious to hop servers repeatedly to only find 1-2 other ships on, and one is doing a tall tale and the other just scuttles the second you engage. Fix that, and I’m good with safer seas.
I only have played the first TT from Monkey Island. I just can't get myself back into the game. It's been so many months now... this last season only added a chest that i don't care for (got only 7 i think?) and dumbed down the world events, killing any fun in doing them, plus lasting FOR EIGHT MONTHS done it for me. And i really loved Sea of Thieves... a lot.
They need to either make a SoT 2 or make a whole new map and call it Chapter 2. I used to play this game all day everyday. But it just got old and boring with the only new content being added was adventures. Captaincy in S7 was amazing because it brought the whole game back to life. The seasonal progression and rewards are wayyy to easy to obtain. I’ll never forget that day my crew and I stacked 9 FOTD’s and disc was fully cashed it all in. Had to fight for it at the end, but was such an amazing feeling cashing it all in!

Something that has bugged me (lol) for a while is that game-breaking bugs like the sound bugs on your boat creaking are not AHOD but fixing some random clip spot that has been in the game for 2 years and got a popular video is. Or fishing pondies out of Merrick. But the weird low server tickrate that has been present since the new Monke update isn't worth fixing. Stuff like that. There are so many things that make you wonder why they neglect the game as they do while simultaneously shoveling out things their mainline playerbase didn't ask for.
I could deal with Season 10 being delayed if they were actually fixing hitreg, fixing my gun not firing, or just the myriad of sound bugs that exist in the game. I get anti-cheat is hard, but if they were actually yeeting the cheaters out of the game instead of banning the account so that the troublemaker can create a new one in 5 minutes then maybe it would hurt less. Uploading and slicing my clip to send to Rare SHOULD take less time than it takes to ban evade in SoT. Also, they are reaching the point of no return in regards to the harassment of another prominent content creator. Rare NEEDS to actually recognise the abuse being done to the community and how far the doxing and real life harassment has gone. They need to do their part to make sure those people behind these things can have a much needed vacation away from technology because the shit happening to some content creators and even random people is sadistic and pure evil.
Rare can lock threads on Steam and their official website, but they can't lock UA-cam, Reddit, Twitter, Twitch, and the negative reviews warning new players to stay away. They can't keep bilging this ship full of holes forever.

Couldn’t agree more. The Spectacular Performance course is great. I'm really worried about season 10, I'm not sure it will be enough. I'm sick of the bugs, servers, and cheaters. Honestly, it’s rarely fun anymore so I'm playing less. I'm really not sure that Rare care anymore, not as long as players that pop on once a week are spending in the Emporium.

Is hacking a big thing in the game? We just started playing and have run into a ship that was zooming across the ocean, always able to pin point our location (we had a normal flag up), cannons hitting the exact same spot over and over again and two or their crew could not die. Since we are new, I don’t know if this is rare or common
what apex legends did was take a season (season 16) to halt most content production and actually fix most of the things their community was complaining about, and it worked very well. the ranked system was still horrible, but good changes were made. i would love to see this happen to sea of thieves, and soon.
Rare needs to make all chests openable for cosmetics. They could easily implement a loot table system that is typical in MMOs and basically reinvigorate every single event/voyage by allowing players to either turn the chests in for gold or open them and take the risk of rolling the dice on getting some cool rare cosmetics. Each tier of chest could have some unique cosmetics to make farming all types of chests worthwhile. For opening players would have to take the chest to a specific location on the server to have it be unlocked by a special NPC so you couldn't just open chests when you receive them. You could replicate this same loot system for special animal cage loot that may have a selection of pets you could pull, or even a large crate for ship cosmetics you could pull. Rare just sucks.

it is so true that SoT have rally gone down hill.. I feel the same, I can sometimes get an feeling of wanting to play it, only to jump into an server.. and almost every time be like.. ''What now?'' it really feels like the game has one foot in the grave.. there isn't anything to do, and all the bugs, Hitreg, cheatings.. doesn't help at all.
I want to be able to play the game again and have fun.. but I rarely have it in the game.. it really sucks.
I'm already in a 4 months "break" from the game and seeing that they allows commendations to be gained in safer seas just makes me wanna quit forever as it is what interest me about the game. There is no point in completing them if all you have to do is sit in safer seas for hours without risks.

We all agree that: RARE is a little lost; There is a lack of employees to improve the game; They are focused on getting new players and forgot to keep the experienced players; We're just still playing because we're excellent condecs hunters (and find Shrouded Ghost haha)
There always was a lack of employees due to their odd choice to keep it small and tight which sadly for an ambitious project like this, requires quite a few sets of teams.

Its game over for sot. Monkey island was quite literally the worse possible thing rare could've done. The game is in such horrible shape that a whole 2 seasons could be dedicated to fixing this mess of a game.
I quit a while ago, when I realized Rare was giving out rare cosmetics for free. Items me and my friends were proud of. That and all the bugs, hitreg, lack of content, etc. I hope they start brewing sot 2. Rare needs a fresh start, ditch the current unworkable codebase and just start fresh. No more time lost to stupid spaghetti code or optimizations for old consoles.

I love the game and will probably always love it, but rn as there is nothing new pulling me to pick it up over other games, I am not playing it. If SoT were to stay as it is for the rest of its life, I would pick it up every so often when I am bored of everything else, or when I get into a phase with my friends.
Like how I play Minecraft. I play it, then stop for a few months to a year, and then play it again.
I hope SoT doesn't become that to me, but even if it does, it will still be one of my all-time favorite games.

its really sad to see how game is dying because of devs poor decisions. 1st of all i dont think u should add new talltales to the game when the game is filled with cheaters while the game "antycheat" is not antycheating lmao and bugs. also the other thing is that as much as i enjoyed 1st talltale and was neutral with 2nd one, the rewards for completing them are just a bad joke imo, there can be so many nice rewards and they decided to go with freaking painting and trinket? and not in 1 but 2 tales? thats just sad
I just started playing maybe 2 weeks ago and Ive played almost every day since and almost every time I played I was either with or fought against people who were new to the game so this is saddening news for sure
The only thing I cant handle in Sea of thieves is the downtime between islands with my crew. The sea lulls us to sleep and all of a sudden we are in bed by 8😅

Rare is so dumb, they just gotta make new kraken, new megladons, add a sea dragon or leviathan have each boss drop a cool offensive item, or something to buff your ship slightly. We need more wraith balls and gameplay customizations
That would add so much depth to the game, make the game a more fun sandbox by adding new elements the players can experiment with.
Tall tales aren't the main course, we need cool ways to make the sandbox fun
I just completed Star Fox Adventures which was made by Rare. It’s obvious they are trying to make SOT more like that game. Rare are squeezing out all uniqueness of the open world sandbox and trying to turn SOT into an story driven adventure game. Sad because uniqueness is getting rarer (no pun) in big title games and SOT used to be a great exception

Yeah, I still love the game but I have been taking a break. Will probably hope back on for the new event to get the items but otherwise I am waiting for monkey island 3 or season 10. I would really like to see more sandbox mechanics like you where talking about. Love watching you bully the adoring fan though in star field though, so please keep playing starfield.
If they bring back cool things like the Golden Legendary hull and Obsidian clothes and put them behind a very hard farm I would come back and play like crazy. I hate that ugly ass Legendary Hull man
If they want to bring life back to the game, it's simple: bring the game, but without PvP.
Safer seas will have a slight effect in the right direction, but it isn't going to get the response they're expecting because they're taking 90% of the game away

I haven't played for ages, but it's not that I don't want to. Absolutely hyped for the Monkey Island crossover, so looking forward to actually playing - when I have time.
Games also just have their life-span. Sea of Thieves became a live-service game and its had a good run. Rare has done a good job to preserve player retention. But nothing lasts forever. The good thing, is that its a game people will keep coming back to, even as its numbers continue to diminish. As time passes, and the game continues to age, it will continue to diminish and new experiences will come out.
Excellent video. I stopped playing the game a year ago for these very reasons. Also them announcing to address the hitreg issues after it's all going downhill makes me even more apathetic. We have been asking for this since the beta version of the game.

I got double pvp gold curse, took a break for a few months. I come back to play the event and it made me realize the game isn't worth to play with this many bugs and cheaters.... almost half of the event challenges are bugged that don't count on the first completion
No it’s dead to those who are in game multimillionaires and now show off the Athena and Reaper’s curses cinematics. The rest of us are still grinding away to get to that point.
Imagine a reboot of SoT just like the initial release, but the team knows what they’re doing and where they’re going. Sea of Thieves has become a warped image of its past self.

Somewhere along the lines developers forgot that the entire point for playing the game was to be a pirate, get gold, and buy shit.
I started playing sea of thieves around season 2 or 3 right before they dropped arena and reworked sword combat (still think the old combat was better, damn single shotgun pellet stopping my lunge) but since day one my experiance on a purely technical level has gotten worse every update now i'm telaporting all over the place with my sword lunge losing momentem mid air sending me sinking like a rock mid combat and it doesnt feel like there is any focus in development on fixing the core of the game.
