- This machine came to me in a treadle table which needs a lot of work. Once the table has been refurbished, I will make a more detailed demonstration video on this machine.
I can't wait to see it in its natural habitat (treadle).

You are super smart and adapt current parts for old sewing machines. I like to sew a little bit and do repairs on my vintage machines.
The 31-20 is a wonderful machine, mine dates to 1911 and is in a treadle. The proper fit of aftermarket feed dogs and needle plates is often an issue and judicious grinding and filing (as you have done here) is often required.
I have two 31-15's . Thanks for the info on Industrials. I have a soft spot for the and hope to rescue them whenever I find them.

I just tuned into your many videos. Really enjoy your knowledge of vintage and current machines. I am not sure where you are from...I am from Canada and have an Eaton's Viking 70's machine. It was made in Japan and is a solid machine (equivalent to a Sears Kenmore). Do you know anything about my machine? Could you post a tutorial on how to refurbish a 1970's Kenmore? Thank you for your posts. Very informative without the caffeine induced "hype" you get from other channels.🙂
Thanks for watching my videos! There were many different viking models around that time, many of them are identical to other generic brands. I have one that was my great Aunts, if its the same model, I'm happy to answer specific questions about it. They're just solid workhorse machines, not industrial though like some people suggest. Check if yours has any plastic gears, some of the Japanese machines started with plastic in the late 70's. All metal is what you want.
I do have a few videos on 1970's Kenmores, one in particular on how to fully clean and oil it. I'm open to suggestions for specific video requests. Refurbishing a kenmore can mean many things, depending on what's wrong with it!

Can you tell me if the Janome HD 1000 or 3000 (made in Japan??) is still a good quality machine? I have a Sears Kenmore 10970's that is in excellent condition, but was wondering if I should spring for a newer machine. Your review on the Singers HD was an eye opener...honest review that prevented me from making the mistake of buying it.
The Janome HD1000 is the best new machine under $500 in my opinion. HD3000 has more features but the HD1000 will last longer. Your 1970's Kenmore will probably outlast them both, though.
Good Morning. I have just watched your videos, and love them. You are so knowledgeable on the subject. I have inherited my mothers old Singer 30-20, she had it and used it for at least 45 years. I did for the last 25 years. Right now I am thinking of moving and really don't know what I should do with my machine. It's a very sentiment piece of furniture to me. But, I know I need to part with it, because I won't have the room for it. It needs some minor adjustment at the moment. Where do you think I should sell the machine. I can send you a photo. It is worn out from been used so much. Thank you, Diane

Yes, that's correct.
I would have attacked the needle plate first, along with the dog.
I did end up grinding both down in the end but yes, you could start with the needle plate. Thanks for watching
