My pleasure Robin - glad you enjoyed the vid. Most of my plein air paintings get tweaked in the studio as they lack punch and need a little something extra. Take care mate
What a gorgeous painting, Andrew! Thank you for sharing your process. The tweeks you did to the painting back at the studio were so good too (love what you did plein air!).
@@AndrewBarrowmanArt You're welcome, Andrew! I also love seeing how you started your painting using a very light paint color to map out the scene. I always tend to use a burnt sienna or an Ultra Marine blue to draw out the scene, but seeing you use a light color close to white was very unique, I think. And it worked well!
You're using a Cotman rigger there! That's supposed to be a watercolour brush - but it's a good point, because I know they work fine with acrylics and oils, and there's no reason not to use them just because they were designed for another medium: it's a tribute to them, basically. Great brushes. Oh - good painting, too!
Love this one Andrew, great painting in one of my favorite places. Bit envious really as we are avoiding coming from Lancashire this year thanks to Mr Covid. Best wishes Peter

Merci beaucoup Luc - Je utilise un melange de stand oil et turpentine 50 / 50. Michael Harding has a ready made medium which is very similar - here is a link for more information *_www.greatart.co.uk/michael-harding-oil-paint-medium-pm1.html_*
Wonderful. And the introduction of the figures walking the beach really is a nice touch. Did you prepare the plywood board with gesso.. ? Did you sand down the surface a bit first..? I would like to try plywood. I'm so frustrated with the a lot of the "art boards" I've been using. Even the slightest warping becomes very unpleasant for me. The shot of Basil lounging in the sand is great..!! :) Cheers.!
Thanks Bill. I did prep the plywood with gesso first. No sanding though as I like the brush marks and slightly uneven texture for painting. Smoother than canvas so can be difficult to paint onto, hence the need to finish in the studio sometimes. Basil loves his outings - he's a well travelled dog! Cheers
This is such a gorgeous painting
thank you very much Meredith
Love this, well done!
Thanks so much!😀
Lovely light Andrew
It was beautiful there - we were lucky the tide was right out so the sand was glowing
Blinking awesome I am so inspired !!!!!

Great painting and video Andrew. I really like the taking it back to the studio idea too. Thank you for always creating inspirational videos.

Thank you Kay. It’s great fun trying different size and shaped painting surfaces. This panoramic was ideal for this scene

@@KayInMaine thanks Kay - I don't think it really matters what colour you use to map in the shapes etc. Most of the lines are painted over later
@@AndrewBarrowmanArt And you have proven that theory! 😎👍

What paint colours mixture dis U use for sand ,that pretty pink is it Burnt Sienna mix?
I usually use lemon yellow and magenta with white for the pinkness in sand

Plywood will warp especially as the panels get larger. I put a bracing frame on the back to stop this happening on anything bigger than 10” 👍🏻
Weldon sir
