Aside from internals, I like to look for the color of the Sony logo that is present on the front neck of the controller. It's usually a complementary shade of the color palette with the controller you have. For example a Magma Red Edition controller has a lighter shade of red for the emblazoned logo.

Also, it may seem obvious, but if you're using a bootleg or third party ps4 controller, no matter how similar it looks to the actual dualshock 4 controller, its gonna have different internals. Which means that if you use something like a strikepack, or the paddle attachment for the dualshock 4, it's not going to connect because those devices are meant to connect to sony products.

As soon as you showed the DS4 White I knew it was the bootleg. NOt because you showed it, but because of the button colors. DS4 buttons on the second generation TEND to be grey, not pitch black like the first generation. Of course, it's easier to find those things in person though.
About the box of the controller, the bootleg tried to mimmick the American Boxing Case, but in that case the "plastic" of the box comes out. There's two original casings for DS4 controllers, the one you showed, and the bigger one the bootleg tried to mimmick.
Also, the back of the bigger original box made in America is white, with a transparent plastic on the front. IT's two plastic casings, on the one you showed, it's all clear.

Bought a bootleg, thankfully of good quality, the only drawback I noticed so far was that the plastic seams are a bit sharp in one point.
Ori and the Blind forest playing for 4 hours and the controller is fine. (edit 6 hours and still no sign of low battery)
Not sure about the touchpad quality, but that may be just how steam does it.

I'd like to add i think a little information based on my experience, I'm not sure if a lot of people knew this or even noticed it but you can actually use the dualshock 4 to play on your smartphone and even through pc/laptop via bluetooth pairing which i constantly do most of the time since i'm too busy working and rarely get a chance to play video games at home so instead i play on my smartphone during my spare time, but when my nephew a bought dualshock 4 online one day he immediately gave it to me check if how it is, and i said "well it seems fine if you ask me" and after that he then used it and it doesn't seem to have any issues, but when i tried using it, i noticed immediately the analog stick being less comfortable compared to my other bluetooth controllers but when i tried pairing it to my smartphone, it registered "wireless controller" instead of "dualshock 4" and it got me puzzled because the legit dualshock controllers always registers "dualshock (then the number)" and not in any other name because of the built in software inside the controllers since i've already done this multiple times on different smartphones,
But like i said it's just based on my experience and I'm not sure if it's a legitimate distinguishing factor to consider

I ended up with one of these, unfortunately. Besides the battery life, the stiffness of the controls, especially the sticks, makes gaming hard. And it didn't take long for the controller to start acting up, doing a different action from the button I would press. Not worth it, and it's hard to spot when purchasing. Showing the difference in packaging will help a lot!

As for the 2nd gen which are the newer ones has light on the touch pad and the colours of the buttons and d pad are grey. When i got my 1st gen ps4, it came with the same controller as your white one. When i changed to ps4 slim, it came with the 2nd gen. Well... As a person who literally JUST received a bootleg controller in the mail from Amazon, like TODAY, id like to also point out the possible performance issues in the analog sticks (especially in first person games). They dont seem to register untill the analog is tilted a little more than halfway to its full extent. This makes ADS a nightmare, and it doesnt help hip firing very much either. My accuracy has been cut down by about 65% in every FPS game i have. So if youve got a controller fresh out the box and your having issues with the analog sticks, chances are its a bootleg 😠

I bought a sunset orange one mercari for 40.
I picked up on the weight difference right away.
Noticed the response time on the handles and triggers right away on Sniper Elite 4. The precision was shit and I couldn't snap aim on the targets for shit. I felt like an amatuer newb all over again blaming the controller, lol.
A check of the serial number shows a difference on my two dualshocks that I have. The serial number off of my sunset orange clone starts with DZ... the PS dualshocks all start with numbers and the pattern of saftey labels is different.
The final confirmation for me was the charging. Its takes a long time to charge in my 2 port dock from amazon that the factory controller. And the battery empties a lot faster.
On the power a charger, the single one with the required dongle, the dongle wont attach to this handle. The gap between the charging port and the shell is a few millimeters larger. Just enough to notice the difference. If I didn't buy this charger I wouldn't have caught that difference.
I shouldve just bought the shell.
The packaging is the same as the one displayed too. If you see that packaging, return it, you bought a clone.
The precision is off on it and it tracks in jumps, not smooth movement.
The packaging is longer and blue with wave patterns on it, the same as the screen saver on the PS4.
On games the require precision, like shooters, it completely fails. On games that don't like classic arcades, or 2d scrolling games, it works ok.
Buy the original, don't fall for the cheaper price.

I got one of these fakes from a non eBay website, they had all colors, all looked good.. and it was a ton cheaper, so that threw me.. I just thought it was a god deal. I think I paid $39.99.. maybe a bit more, was just trying to get it a little cheaper, didn't even know the Chinese were faking these... seem like a lot of effort for jack shit. I bought it from the address below.. it took like 4 or 5 weeks to arrive... literally "slow boat from China" story. When I picked it up in box, I knew right away something was off.... the the controller itself is too light... I had a glacier white one that cam with my PS4 when it was new.... so I immediately noticed that the plastic on the back side felt wrong, there was very odd texture to it..an it was an annoying texture to boot. The I clicked the sticks.. definitely not the right click feel or sound... I never got as far as using it with a game. I wanted to use it with my PC... but nope. I cant get it to work even with a strait cable.. it act like it charges, changing from orange to blue I think. Anyway, I emailed them and told them its a fake, and that its a crime to sell it as the real OEM stuff... told them U.S. customs would love to hear about boats containers bringing in thousands of illegal goods.. they refunded within. I received a re-fund that same afternoon.. just any email that said "REFUNDED" ..No apology, just "REFUNDED" .. so they obviously know they are selling bootleg controllers, and crossing their fingers that no one would notice, or threaten legal action. Absolute scumbags... I don't get why they go through all BS using the PS logo, and Sony logo trying to fake us out... when they could have just said "hey, here is a 3rd party controller, we made it as close to the OEM controller as possible.
I cant find the link to the website.. but the name in the email the sent me is "Geekpro"
It also shows up as " Boss Studio

Just enough of a deal to throw me.. just seemed like too much effort to add all those details for a pad.. I guess they just factor in a certain percentage of people are going to demand money back like I did, and most wouldn't bother. If it hadn't been so light and the texture feeling so wrong, it may have gotten passed me...I no longer had any originals to compare it to, but weight is a very noticeable thing IMO ... good on ya for making the video

These sort of devices ruin the legitimacy of what we love to experience which is, of course, video games. Besides, it seems bootlegged controllers break more easily compared to the official copyrighted Sony controller. Why pay $30 for a controller that has a high chance of failing on you? By doing so, you're only supporting the frauds into developing more of these sort of scams.
