Nelson would be soooo proud to see who Ru lived on to become. He believed in him far before many other people did. I’m just grateful Ru saw the value in what Nelson was doing & allowed him to document his life

Ru Paul "allowed" Nelson to "document" his life? Are you fucking insane? Do you have any idea where Ru Paul came from and who gave him his start? SHIT you people are fucking ridiculous

mrmikeyd 🙄🙄 you’re reaching bro. Yes Ru ALLOWED Nelson to film him. Bc you can’t film someone without consent. But, considering the times vlogging wasn’t a thing. So for Ru to see the value in what Nelson was doing is special to me bc it allow us a sort of time portal to see the earlier part of RuPauls career. Pre cover girl & the major success she saw in the 90s🙄

@mrmikeyd ru helped take care of blackout when Nelson died. I think they were friends man. Allowing is a poor choice of words I agree. I think they hung out equal playing field, and they cared enough to take care of his dog when he passed suddenly.

Me too. Especially ones that document a place/scene that has no record. Plus, these vids document the old downtown scene...'behind the scene' - the media focuses on M. Alig just because of the murder or RuPaul just because she's famous now. But reading the comments, we are all more interested in the vibe.

Right? He would've probably been the 1st on this platform once the internet started getting traction in the world. Or maybe he would've created his own internet video platform and beat UA-cam to it. All his friends were destined for greatness, so I could only imagine what he would've accomplished if he had more time.
      God bless his soul. ♡

“I’m talking to myself at my own party.” Nelson...I love you. You are SO missed. Oh what you would have done and what you’d think about social media and UA-cam. I am sure that you’d be making videos and everyone would give you proper recognition for having the creative vision to start vlogging with those awesome “old” (they were new and exciting to us!) big cameras which became an extension of you in a beautiful dance that filmmakers still talk about. So smooth and such incredible angles. I just adore you. Such a sweet man. I’m just so sad that you left so early and suddenly without warning. It’s still shocking! THANK YOU.

I love him too. Ive only just discovered this channel and the fact that he loved to document everything shows how creative and charismatic he was. He has gave us this portal into late 80's NYC for people now from all around the world. I have tried (and failed several times) to do the same on our latest technologies (I keep getting my phone either stolen or accounts hacked its kinda sad lol)
But Nelson gives us a doorway into a particularly poignant time and sub culture and also the LGBT community 30 year ago

@@thedrunkenramblingsnorthea4201 He is my portal to wonderful memories of my teen years. I'm very blessed, I grew up in the most exciting times in pop culture. Being an 80s kid is the reason why I always wanted a creative occupation. I remember when my musician and engineer father, who loved new gadgets, got the very first video camera. It was so cool. It looked like a TV camera. I have so many great videos because if it. And it truly was a reality that we had something new to try in music, fashion, arts, technology that it was always so fun and exciting. There was something for everyone. NYC was magic. That's the one thing I can say is that it makes me cry to think of how badly the city has been destroyed. The vibe was always so wonderful, full of creatives, and us artists could feasibly find a place to share and live, create community and support each other. Yes, it was rough and in ill repair but it was beautiful and gritty and nothing like it. Now, you have to be rich af to live there and all the small creative businesses are gone, wiped out. I cry. A lot. I used to study dance on Broadway West 57th. It was a dream. I miss it. I'm SO grateful for the nostalgia. I just miss this vibe so much. I'm grateful to have these films to just close my eyes and go back to better days. When things ars too much, dragging ne down, the voices, the places, the music. I miss those years and great friends, and the city. Thank you, Nelson. And I live me some Julie Jewels!

I would give an arm to go back. I felt like there was always an optimism in the air that we could get past differences and embrace them...I feel like a pessimism began to take hold in the 90s and 9/11 was like a punctuation on that pessimism. Now we are so fragmented as a country that I don't know if we will ever find out way back..Im a straight guy , but I enjoy watching these videos by Nelson because I still see the optimism in these people during the 80s...if you watch the 90s talk shows when Michael alig and the club kids are on there is a dark shadow beginning to form. sorry to go on and on , but I miss the way we were in the 80s that I never pass up an opportunity to say hi when someone shows a fondness to a time I will forever cherish. I was in high school in the early 90s...their was a real change from the 80s in overall optimism ...their are many reasons for this...I have a masters in history so I could bore you to tears with the reasons, but I'll spare you lolllll....I will say the music, movies, pop culture, and overall feeling in the air grew darker in the early 90s and really hit its stride with columbine and eventually 9/11...there were other events in the past that our country faced, but their was always a positive that followed a tragedy...a simplistic example would be ....Kennedy was killed in late 63....a few months later the beatles captivated the youth of America on the ed Sullivan show leading way to the 60s explosion of great music and other areas of exploration and growth....the 80s really was the perfect combo of technology creeping in...it was used to enhance things such as music...the early synth bands would be an example...now technology has been used to invade our everyday lives leading to more distrust and division etc...sorry , I just started to ramble after telling you I wouldnt...I could go on for days about the 80s..I was alive in the 70s, but very young...the 80s seemed to be the beginning of modern times...home videos(vcr) mtv(where you could see your favorite bands and artists without having to watch a show they happened to appear on) , home video games, timeless movies, great TV shows etc...no play dates...kids just went out and found other kids to play with as long as they were home by dark...it really was a great time to live through..

Lol. Ya still need to follow street signs and call people for directions in NY. Because most of us aren't driving and finding our way with GPS; we're walking and taking the subway. All of these comments about how "NYC used to be" from people who clearly don't live in the area. Not saying it hasn't changed and not trying to be rude, it's just a little bit silly.
