Co-existing with other human beings used to be a very common social trait. It's weird to us now, but before the great plague of 2020, people use to "do stuff" without fear of committing a criminal offence. It seems mental now, but you really could do pretty much what you wanted, when you wanted.
Ha, this randomly came up in my time line. That was a great day. He looked knackered right at the end but was such a positive and enthusiastic dude. . The meet & greet queue went on forever.
Alex Horne also had bat meat at his picnic. It's amazing what seemed so normal back then is now so alien to us. He also touched his face and didn't wash his hands once.
@Da Mighty Shabba yes, after getting turned away from the football ground we went back to the starting place and he did some book signing and posed for photos.
Slightly odd seeing yourself at an event from another angle. I was the one from Rickmansworth (it's the next major town down the valley of the River Chess geography fans, so not far at all) What the video fails to convey, but yiu can hear it in his voice, is Alex's suprise/fear/shock at just how many people turned up.
The two Taskmaster sites mentioned were the Town Hall (Impress the Mayor) and Chesham Town FC (score the most impressive goal with this bag/hide this ball Mel Gedoric). The idea was to boost Chesham 's support for that afternoon's FA Cup fixture against Hayes. However when over a thousand extra people turned up, Hayes objected (think they quoted insufficient crowd control, stewards, police etc) and so it all fizzled out after that. Funnily enough earlier I popped into the stationers that featured in the show to warn them that they may have a busy afternoon with Taskers coming to visit.
As someone who has lived in Chesham all my life, I'm shocked I never heard about this. Although describing Chesham as a "small town" when it's got 20,000 people is a bit hilarious.
@@shantayedincsoy1611 Depends on the country - 600k is absolutely a city in the UK, we tend to regard somewhere as a city when it hits about 80k in population. It was in the Taskmaster book. There were coordinates saying a time and place that Alex would be having a picnic. The task was to find the place. Way more people turned up than Alex was expecting.
my grandparents told me about this when you could sit in a park with other people, didn't believe them until now

20,000 for a town ain't much
My college town was 600,000. And it felt small. My high school was 4,000. 20k is a like a 5 square mile in my city.

My home town has a tenth of that and I've been to towns with single digit populations.
