I think Gåte is the best option for us as well. However, I do wish they had been placed earlier in the show to prove that a strong song can win even if it is performed early. I also think Gåte is ready to go to Eurovision - it kinda seems they set up their staging based on the stage in Malmö already.
I really enjoy My Ai 🤖 But I see your point about if Norway wants to win. Gåte is that cultural experience that I love to get from eurovision. Also really adore Annprincess. Those are my top 3, Norway is super strong this year 🇳🇴
The panned out angle is perfect Tom 😊 For me, im hoping Gåte clinch the win. It honestly hit me like a brick when i saw their performance. And if this was as powerful on a small stage, imagine how impactful this would be on the ESC stage! Keiino are my second favourites, followed by Miia, Margaret Berger & then Gothminister. I do honestly think 'My AI' will finish quite high though, although it wont win. Top 4 i think. Keiino will finish in the top 3, but i think Gåte will take it. Norway has definitely elevated in the last 10 years because they went through a struggle at one point, but the quality is so much more now.

Gåte hype is giving me Alvedansen vibes, the best thing since sliced bread for devoted fans which may easily fly over the televoters' heads. It's a great representative but I would not be surprised if it doesn't perform nearly as well as the hype may suggest.

6:10 i have to comment that we did send a song that won both the international jury and televotes in mgp last year, which is why norwegians were suprised and dissappointed with the jury in esc. i keep seeing that we've only sent "joke entries" in the last few years when i would only call subwoolfer a joke entry. and we knew from the beginning that it wouldnt do well with the jury, hence no negative reactions unlike with alessandra
Alessandra’s vocal during the jury show last year had some really bad moments, notably the second verse, which she improved massively in the grand final.
Well, winning the international jury in NF does in no way guarantee that you'll win or do well with juries in actual Eurovision... It just means it was the preferred song *in that NF,* nothing more.

I like the fact that the sublime performance of Gåte has turned your head. I adored them already before. It took time to get into the song but boy it delivers. I don't mind if AI song wins: it is the best of the Aquaesque songs. But you are right: it won't win ESC as Gåte can with stellar performance.

It was the most read article today. VG has a readership of 2 million people. The song has been cleared for sample usage by the EBU, it’s literally just creating drama for nothing.
For context: Plagiarism is a HUUUGE hot topic in Norway right now, that’s why it’s getting so much attention despite the fact that Jone also used a sample last year. Which nobody cared about.

This will be a VERY entertaining final Tom I could make cases for all 9 to win but i have to stick with which songs i have actually downloaded. And that means 3 songs. In no particular order they are "Eya", "Green Lights" and "Judge Tenderly Of Me" They are just my personal favourites but for Norway to be successful i think they should go for Gäte. It's in Norwegian, is a jury baiter and feel that like Maneskin did, it will be a grower all the way to Malmö and the momentum could be enough for overall success. Regardless, enjoy the night everybody. It will be a real party! 🥳🥳🥳
I didn't really care about Gåte at first glance too, until I listened to the five minute full song which had a far better pacing and musical storytelling which made it way less rushed and way more epic. Then there was the fabulous live performance which blew me away. And just when I thought that Norway had already heard its Eurovision entry this year, I saw Keiino delivering a highly entertaining earworm. Nothing about it is obnoxious like My AI, the performance is equivalently entertaining as Gåte's. So now I am sure that with both a top 10 finish is possible, but only Gåte has a chance of doing better at the juries. Which, as you rightfully noted, is necessary to win the contest and not just the televote. Alternatively, both Spain and Norway can send a slow-paced song (St. Pedro or bust) and suddenly there are a lot of people spoiled for choice in that department

I would absolutely love for Norway to join the national language party with Finland and Iceland in the past 2 years (I have a feeling Finland is sending something in Finnish again this year) and send Gåte. Maybe it could inspire Sweden to do the same in the next few years. I know Denmark did in 2021 but that didn't go super well sadly and who knows if they could pull it off anytime soon.

Gåte have been around since around the first Coldplay album, feel old yet? But in that time they have been serial award winners in Norway (especially concentrated around their first big hit "Sjå Attende") and are still considered a top 3 living rock band in Norway despite taking a long break. We couldn't try any harder unless we sent Kaizers Orchestra.

@@Eva-mp7xg The Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation, NRK, will send someone to Malmö to compete, and it should be mentioned that most people would prefer that Gåte, as the winner of MGP, is that someone, however, Gåte has publicly stated, both before the MGP final and after, that they think it is 'problematic' that Israel is competing in Eurovision given the situation in Gaza and that they will have to discuss whether or not they will compete in Malmö. As far as I'm aware, no conclusion has been reached. Several of the MGP contestants have spoken to the media about the current political situation in the Middle East, implicitly or explicitly criticising Israel, and about 300 Norwegian singers/musicians have signed a petition to ban Israel from Eurovision 2024 - not to mention there have been protests outside the MGP venues. The media has been all over this, but evidently this issue has not been mentioned outside of Norway. The NRK has stated that it has no political mandate and as long as the Norwegian government is not boycotting Israel the NRK will not support any ban or boycott of Israel. To be honest, this back and forth is exhausting and I feel like the joy of Eurovision has diminished quite a bit this year due to this endless debate. I want MGP and Eurovision to be about music and entertaining performances, not politics. And I really do want Gåte to represent Norway in May - I love that what they do is different to what we have selected in recent years.

Gate never ever said that, but these claims could have made some voters re-think their votes, assuming that they vote for someone who wouldn't go anyway. I can totally agree with all artists expressing their concerns about the situation, so happy to see Gate being sensitive about it, however, I just hate such manipulative misinformation spread by people who're rooting for other acts.

St Pedro can not win with that staging and Jorge can not win with that song. Jorge is a guaranteed televote top5 though. St Pedro is nothing guaranteed. He's equally capable of top3 and bottom3.

Personally i don't want Gate to win. Don't get me wrong i really see the artistic vision and it has a super special feel but i don't think that song would do that well with the international televote because at the first listen it's a somehow scary song that is not that easily accessible. she sings incredibly well but her s tyle of singing is pretty unusual but i see the juries somewhat appreciating it but i don't see a huge general appeal. Lets not underestimate the international televoters, most of them preferred an alternative gendlre mix last year over a nice pop song. Voyager also won semi2 with low growls and a proper breakdown in their song.
My top 3 are Gothminister, Gåte & Keiino, in that order. GM is a fantastic group, although this song isn't as good as their usual standard, but I understand that they have to tame things down a bit for Eurovision. Personally, I'd have liked to see something like Pandemonium as their entry. They've also got a huge following in Germany & a slightly smaller one in the UK. Their performance already has an interesting concept & simply just needs upscaling for the Malmö stage. Gåte, I think, will do better in Eurovision itself, because it's in Norwegian & also because it's heavy in traditional or ethnic elements. Folk metal is a thing &, even though it's not my favourite metal genre, at least it's still metal. Keiino is good, but this is the weakest of their 3 attempts at Eurovision. As you rightly said, Tom, Fred & Tom barely do anything, although Alexandra's voice is, as always, spectacular. I really can't see anyone else winning than Gåte, nor would I want them to. I think the best choice for Norway would be Gåte, followed by GM.
Hey Tom, I really like all the stat data you provide - so let me ask about something I've been curious about for years: Do the acts that qualify from the 1st 2 weeks historically score better than Week 3, due to their having more time to tweak & fine tune?
The organisers have treated KEiiNO something rotten by putting them on first. Being last, Erika had better bring it and prove she deserves to close the show, because in the semifinal her vocals were ROUGH. I like the song but it has to be sung better. In contrast, Alexandra always gives a perfect performance.
I think you are underestimating Miia and overestimating that ballad duo. Certain areas are into country and some not. It was a huge surprise they made it to the final. They are good though, nice harmonies. it’s just a bit boring in my opinion.
I feel a bit ambivalent about Gåte: in a rational level one could say it's the best choice. Then again it's not the song I personally like to listen to. Again Gothminister and Cyan Kicks from UMK has elevated after many listenings. Gothminister in a good way gives Lordi vibes and in a bad way last year's Germany vibes. One paradox about MGP is that its my favourite national final this year, but i think i'm not gonna give any vote to any of these songs in ESC finals.

Gåte - Ulveham (Wolf Skin) Traditional folk inspired, fantastic vocalist Gunnhild singing in traditional «lokk» and «stev» technique (no she is not «cracking» this is the genre) and intense dark staging that really draws people in, Norwegian lyrics, Norwegian music history, a real band who has been favourites since their first album - LOVE it, we need to have this in Malmö 2. Dag Erik Oksvold & Anne Fagermo - love this country ballad, simple, honest, touching, harmonizing voices - it won’t win, but it will stand out in the final, and will be remembered 3. Margaret Berger - «Oblivion» is definitely no new «Feed you my love», but still a good song. Margaret classy as always. 4. KEiiNO - a great band with vocalist Alexandra who has never missed a note in her life, I loved «Spirit in the Sky» and am still heartbroken «Monument» did not go to ESC (and Norway chose to send TIX (!) ) - but Dumdiggida is really not as good, no Sámi from Fred, little heard of Tom Hugo - I hate to use the word Eurotrash, but - well, the song will be perfect for your next spinning lesson and get you to push yourself a little harder. 5. Gothminister - a little metal is never wrong in ESC. Good singer, however I find the song a little too generic; should have taken it further into the genre (cf Måneskin) 6. Annprincess - one of the best singers in the final, but the song and stage comes off as too dark for me. And cut the whistling. Would love to hear more from this artist though. 7. MIIA - this song is good, but her voice is unsteady in the lower and weaker parts, and then too screaming. Studio version is better. 8. Ingrid Jasmin. This is not bad, it just does not appeal to me, we have heard it before in better versions. Better luck next time! 9. The Robot song. Just no. Enough of the nonsense. Leave it to ESC Junior or NRK Super.

I could see Super Rob and KEiiNO cancelling each other out in the televoting and this could lead to a Gate win. Margaret could win the jury voting, but I don´t see her winning the televoting. And in fact that there´s 60% televoting it´s lowkey unlikely to see anyone else than the televote winner NOT winning
The closer we get to the final the more I gravitate towards Judge Tenderly of Me. I know that chances of it winning are very low, but hey, hope dies last.
As a Dutch fan who has a very weak spot for Norway overall, I feel they have to send Gåte. I didn't like the song that much, listening to the studio version but the live performance really elevated it for me. I'm a massive KEiiNO fan, but this song is indeed the weakest of the three songs they entered in MGP. Catchy, very catchy but not strong enough. And Erika Norwich & Super Rob: please Norway, don't let this go to Eurovision. Yes, it's catchy but this kind of performance has a place on junior Eurovision and not the big stage. As for the others: I really liked the live performance of Annprincess and Dag Erik & Anne. Both songs make up my top 4. Margaret Berger was a bit underwhelming in the semi for me, and so was Ingrid Jasmin. Gothminister isn't my cup of tea, and as for Miia: I'm slightly confused whether I like it or not. So if Norway would send Gåte or KEiiNO, I would be very happy. If they would send Annprincess or the duo, I would be happy. Still miffed though Mileo didn't make it to the final.
Erm, it wouldn't ever have won even without Loreen - there's someone else who stood in the way, and in fact deserved to win even more - Käärijä & Finland. Too bad that Loreen competed, indeed, as otherwise Finland would have won, as it rightly should have.❤💚

The last time Spain won was 1969!!! Even a tied victory. 55 years of no victory are quite many, don't you think? But I don't see Spain winning anyway. St Pedro can not win with that staging and Jorge can not win with that song. Jorge is a guaranteed televote top5 though. St Pedro is nothing guaranteed. He's equally capable of top3 and bottom3.

Personally i don't want Gate to win. Don't get me wrong i really see the artistic vision and it has a super special feel but i don't think that song would do that well with the international televote because at the first listen it's a somehow scary song that is not that easily accessible. she sings incredibly well but her s tyle of singing is pretty unusual but i see the juries somewhat appreciating it but i don't see a huge general appeal. The best of luck to all of the contestants :)
Lets not underestimate the international televoters, most of them preferred an alternative gendlre mix last year over a nice pop song. Voyager also won semi2 with low growls and a proper breakdown in their song.

I’ve never gotten gate…. Don’t get me wrong I love cultural songs but imo that missed the mark. Keiino or gothminister are the best choices
My top 3 are Gothminister, Gåte & Keiino, in that order. GM is a fantastic group, although this song isn't as good as their usual standard, but I understand that they have to tame things down a bit for Eurovision. Personally, I'd have liked to see something like Pandemonium as their entry. They've also got a huge following in Germany & a slightly smaller one in the UK. Their performance already has an interesting concept & simply just needs upscaling for the Malmö stage.
Gåte, I think, will do better in Eurovision itself, because it's in Norwegian & also because it's heavy in traditional or ethnic elements. Folk metal is a thing &, even though it's not my favourite metal genre, at least it's still metal.
Keiino is good, but this is the weakest of their 3 attempts at Eurovision. As you rightly said, Tom, Fred & Tom barely do anything, although Alexandra's voice is, as always, spectacular.
I really can't see anyone else winning than Gåte, nor would I want them to. I think the best choice for Norway would be Gåte, followed by GM.

The organisers have treated KEiiNO something rotten by putting them on first. Being last, Erika had better bring it and prove she deserves to close the show, because in the semifinal her vocals were ROUGH. I like the song but it has to be sung better. In contrast, Alexandra always gives a perfect performance.

I think you are underestimating Miia and overestimating that ballad duo. Certain areas are into country and some not. It was a huge surprise they made it to the final. They are good though, nice harmonies. it’s just a bit boring in my opinion.
Btw Ingrid Jasmin also sings in Norwegian, with a few lines in Spanish as well.

I feel a bit ambivalent about Gåte: in a rational level one could say it's the best choice. Then again it's not the song I personally like to listen to. Again Gothminister and Cyan Kicks from UMK has elevated after many listenings. Gothminister in a good way gives Lordi vibes and in a bad way last year's Germany vibes.
One paradox about MGP is that its my favourite national final this year, but i think i'm not gonna give any vote to any of these songs in ESC finals.
1. Gåte - Ulveham (Wolf Skin)
Traditional folk inspired, fantastic vocalist Gunnhild singing in traditional «lokk» and «stev» technique (no she is not «cracking» this is the genre) and intense dark staging that really draws people in, Norwegian lyrics, Norwegian music history, a real band who has been favourites since their first album - LOVE it, we need to have this in Malmö
2. Dag Erik Oksvold & Anne Fagermo - love this country ballad, simple, honest, touching, harmonizing voices - it won’t win, but it will stand out in the final, and will be remembered
3. Margaret Berger - «Oblivion» is definitely no new «Feed you my love», but still a good song. Margaret classy as always.
4. KEiiNO - a great band with vocalist Alexandra who has never missed a note in her life, I loved «Spirit in the Sky» and am still heartbroken «Monument» did not go to ESC (and Norway chose to send TIX (!) ) - but Dumdiggida is really not as good, no Sámi from Fred, little heard of Tom Hugo - I hate to use the word Eurotrash, but - well, the song will be perfect for your next spinning lesson and get you to push yourself a little harder.
5. Gothminister - a little metal is never wrong in ESC. Good singer, however I find the song a little too generic; should have taken it further into the genre (cf Måneskin)
6. Annprincess - one of the best singers in the final, but the song and stage comes off as too dark for me. And cut the whistling. Would love to hear more from this artist though.
7. MIIA - this song is good, but her voice is unsteady in the lower and weaker parts, and then too screaming. Studio version is better.
8. Ingrid Jasmin. This is not bad, it just does not appeal to me, we have heard it before in better versions. Better luck next time!
9. The Robot song. Just no. Enough of the nonsense. Leave it to ESC Junior or NRK Super.

I could see Super Rob and KEiiNO cancelling each other out in the televoting and this could lead to a Gate win.
Margaret could win the jury voting, but I don´t see her winning the televoting.
And in fact that there´s 60% televoting it´s lowkey unlikely to see anyone else than the televote winner NOT winning
The closer we get to the final the more I gravitate towards Judge Tenderly of Me. I know that chances of it winning are very low, but hey, hope dies last.

As a Dutch fan who has a very weak spot for Norway overall, I feel they have to send Gåte. I didn't like the song that much, listening to the studio version but the live performance really elevated it for me.
I'm a massive KEiiNO fan, but this song is indeed the weakest of the three songs they entered in MGP. Catchy, very catchy but not strong enough.
And Erika Norwich & Super Rob: please Norway, don't let this go to Eurovision. Yes, it's catchy but this kind of performance has a place on junior Eurovision and not the big stage.
As for the others: I really liked the live performance of Annprincess and Dag Erik & Anne. Both songs make up my top 4.
Margaret Berger was a bit underwhelming in the semi for me, and so was Ingrid Jasmin. Gothminister isn't my cup of tea, and as for Miia: I'm slightly confused whether I like it or not.
So if Norway would send Gåte or KEiiNO, I would be very happy. If they would send Annprincess or the duo, I would be happy.
Still miffed though Mileo didn't make it to the final.
