Wow, that old D8 is Mint! Don't blame you for wanting it. It's also a machine you don't have to repaint. :-)

Thanks for another great video. I have R8 9073's older brother, R8 1458 who apparently went to work to support 9073 life of apparent leisure. 1458 was wore out, rebuilt and wore out again, but is still operational and occasionally pushes up a pile of dirt or pushes down a dead tree. It's a testament to how much abuse a Cat can survive. At some point in 1458's later life it was modified with duel exhaust, It's slide bar shifter was replaced with 2 shift levers. It has a LeTourneau Model T Power Control Unit lifting what is to me its most interesting feature, a WWII M4, M4A Sherman tank dozer blade.

Your more then welcome to preserve 1458's image for posterity any time your in the area. Might even find a few more pieces of old iron to film.

I can remember watching these old 'dozers as they were used to help clear snow from our city streets waaaayyy back in the early 1950's ,..( there now that tells you something !) I"d watch them come along with a 'mountain' of cold hard snow in front of their blades, and the exhaust stack chugging smoke. We could see them coming up the road for blocks away. Now back then I couldn't tell what model numbers they were as they were all knows as " hey , here comes a Caterpiller"!
Maybe this was the era that my love of the sounds of the diesel under heavy load was started.

Great walk around video of a neat old cat. Love the photos of how things looked before they got used up or modified. Thanks again

That tractor probably only pulled scrapers or trucks all it's working life. Great light weight duty. :-)

You must collect a lot of literature on these old beasts. Quite a large tractor for its days. Love the planes in the sky on the one old photo.

You must see a lot of eye candy with those old machines? Thanks for showing us that.

I was thinking as you were walking that IT would be a NICE addition to your collection! It'd yank a pan or dump wagon around with no trouble. Ylou could move material back and forth. Like a guy I grew up with and joined the Army with said that I spent my whole life moving rocks from one place to another. Still doing it and burning fuel. Don't get any better that that! Thanks, Toby! You're right in that's one FINE old 8!

@@KPearce57 I remember seeing some when I was in Kansas but they never did anything but sit and idle. They had 7-E's that did all the tank trail work. Beautiful downtown Junction City! I got a 7-E when I was in Virginia with the amphibs. Glad to be out!

Thank you for the next one, very nice example, Caterpillar did ground braking work these day's, do you know perhaps if they were first to produce a tracked tractor and Bulldozer
