This is exactly the way my grandfather first introduced me to fishing when I was about 4 years old. Catch and cook on the creek bank. Bluegill, red ear, and the occasional cat. Doesn’t get any better.

Those limb lines can be pulled in with a Y stick made into a gaff. One long limb with a stub at the end for a hook. We did that to avoid water moccasins.

a hint from a fly fisherman, if your hook will not easily catch on your thumbnail it isn't sharp. (should stick not skate across) A metal dollar store fingernail file will sharpen them in a matter of seconds and fish will self hook at a higher rate.

My wife just offered to drive to Dallas from San Antonio to get pictures with you for me. She can't drive that great and didn't realize it was a 4 hour drive lol.

Thank you for your service Sir, from a Grand son of a WW2 Combat Medic in the CAS, I miss the days in the great white north up on the Canadian shield mountain range hunting and fishing with my Grand Father and Father, I now appreciate even more the things they taught me in regards to Outdoorsman ship and being able to survive if needed and the incredible amount of knowledge that my Grand Father had to teach to our family. RIP Grampa & Dad Gone but never forgotten.

Made my Kentucky heart happy. 40 years ago it wasnt camping or surviving. It was every free weekend for a 7,8,and 10 year old boy. Parents never worried. Hell sometimes the old man tracked us down and stayed too!

Nice catch. Glad to see you are armed. We've had 2 guys and and a solo guy (no camping gear) roaming through here. Sheriff arrested 2 for harassing a neighbor, and the sole told me it was my job to feed him. I'm always armed but this time he met my 100 lb German Sheppard sitting on the porch waiting for my command. Great dog.
I love German Shepherds. Wonderfully loyal and protective. Grew up with one as a kid. Always willing to let people and other animals know they mean business.

Really beautiful campsite with loquacious wrens in the background. This is kind of special- totally original, totally different, totally new way of doing things in regard to fishing and camping. That's one helluva catfish. By the way beefaroni is underrated. Cold or hot.

The Ranger roll is my preferred sleep system from late spring to early fall. Sometimes, in the summer, I'll sleep on it and string a mosquito net.
At my age I can't do the cold can if spaghetti, so I put the can in my stellcup surrounded by boiling water for a few minutes. No dishes to clean but a better meal.
Improvise and adapt, but I still want to see that hammock setup when the water drops! 😉 😜

That is my type of camping when I was a youngster. Down on Fall Creek that ran through the woods and my tent was a sheet of visqueen. I sure miss those times. Keep up with the videos, keep up the good work and God bless.

Looked like a channel cat to me, not a yellow/flathead/appaloosa. In Texas, flatheads usually bite only live bait.
If anyone from Illinois is reding this, my response, it is directed towards you.... Illinois has made it illegal to fish by using ant form of line tied to a tree (this includes yo-yo reels & snares). If you sever the branch, it ceases to be a branch and gets classified as a twig - making tying to it legal.
