The Secret to backing trailer is get it as straight as you can the first time and don’t over steer and follow up as fast you can . It called practice before you go everyone has to learn.
No. The secret was explained by the narrator. Do what the drivers of 18 wheelers do. Put your hand at the bottom of the wheel, move your hand the way you want the trailer to go. Getting lined up and doing everything slow and steady are good practices, but not the key secret.
Yeah I'm watching this, having never backed up a trailer and am thinking "He has ALL that room in front of the ramp to just pull up and back straight in. Why is he trying to turn the trailer into the water?"

That, and that the trailer is both low and narrow, makes it likely completely hidden from the driver when reversing in a straight line - even the guy who stepped in and eventually got the trailer in the water appeared to struggle a bit, and ended up a fair bit further to the right than he ideally would have been. ETA I wonder if it has a back-up camera?
Short trailers definitely can be difficult. Vision is another issue with them on most vehicles - that's why I actually love using my Miata for towing them. Easily can see the whole trailer - and while the short wheelbase makes the trailers even more touchy to maneuver in reverse, I can easily turn around in a driveway with it.
I couldn't understand why they didn't line up straight too. They had a completely empty parking lot. Some people have no clue behind the wheel. It's scary.
Buddy is pretty cool about a stranger jumping into his Jeep. I think I would have been a whole lot more vocal about a stranger hopping into my ride. Cheers.

Miami Boat Ramps guy - maybe you could do a few clear instructional videos on how to back up trailers and load boats? Would be great to mix in with this content. Your attitude is excellent with these boat owners despite the entertainment we are having at their expense :-).
Actually, I've walked up and offered to back down on two different occasions where people just weren't getting it, 1 ski and 1 boat. They were new to it and happy for the help seeing as how they were about to give up.
If you’re new to trailers, it’s 100% easier to just pull up so you can back down straight instead of turning it down the ramp. Also I found it very easy my first time because my uncle had me watch him back the boat in and explain how each direction makes it go opposite and then when I backed down to retrieve the boat it was very easy.
Your comment on where to place your hand on the wheel (bottom) is great advice. Different challenge, but we Dock a 34 ft sailboat aft in first. I went to a two week school to get my class A CDL, the number one thing that stuck in my head while backing was “steer towards trouble” it really helped in the first few months of driving .
At first I was thinking she was on the phone with her date so she could guide him down. My wife is really good at backing a trailer, but will usually have me on speaker in the boat in case situations change or she needs some guidance on the fly. Also for backing, I taught her to play whack-a-mole with the trailer in the mirrors. If you are trying to back straight and you see the trailer in the left mirror, turn to the left a bit until it is in the right one..... then turn right a bit. It worked for me when learning and she is doing great using that method.
If you’re planning on buying a toy/trailer combo I really suggest going out to an empty parking lot with it to practice backing it in. Don’t let your first time be in a public place where everyone is watching. Once you develop the muscle memory, which doesn’t take very long, you will be able to back it wherever you need. Don’t be that guy.

I was thinking it was a rental and that was one of the rental operators that came down. Have no idea but fun to speculate :) It was a PITA to grab my PWC from my jeep.
