My God man! They were just a force that couldn't be touched! This is one of the songs responsible for Speed Metal/Punk. This is the blueprint as far as I'm concerned.
I totally agree. Absolutely ground breaking indeed! It still oozes with class.👌 Reminds me also of Motorhead's Ace of Spades🤘 😎 ❤ Which came first? Purgatory or Ace of Spades? 🤔
Early Maiden lineup, writing and performances were all simply brilliant. Poor Clive's style was powerful, commanding and yet had such feel... Thinking of him serves as a reminder that we should all strive to succeed, and exercise some humility in our daily lives.
i love this album LP / EP :) i have this thing tattooed on my arm and i have got 4 eddies all over me :) i become addicted to Maiden and i still love them !
Iron maiden own the universe they are gods living amongst us forget jesus and his daddy , bow to The Maiden making beauty for our ears , Up the Irons from UK
This song, along with many others, was performed in the concert in Japan. 5 songs from this show were included in the Maiden Japan EP. Purgatory however, wasn't.
I bought the album back then as well. I don't remember if I ever had the CD though. However, Purgatory wasn't on the Maiden Japan album that I had. I think it was probably released overseas. There were only five wicked songs... Wrathchild, Killers, Running Free, Remember tomorrow, and Innocent Exile. Maiden Rules....
This is not the version from Maiden Japan's day. The bootleg that exists is not the whole Maiden Japan, although it is in Japan. Fans are always making this mess. But its a goddamn version!
Of course Paul was a good fit for maiden then, now bruce is the perfect fit for maiden, I will always love paul's voice for sure. killers is my favorite song sang by him.
I think Bruce is the best singer Maiden got, even tought I like Paul more than Bruce. But the 2 albums Paul did with Maiden are the best records of Maiden, perhaps ever...
That would be badass but altering history may have made Iron Maiden not as good or maybe even broken up and we would never get the great post-Pau Dl/new Bruce Dickensin albums we have
I actually did and he did...(got off drugs that is...) Unfortunately he became a born again hindu and went of to Calcutta, found a Guru that convinced him to become a enuck. We lost track of him after that... You may wonder what happened to Maiden. Bruce never joined, stayed in Samson, instead an american named Lionel Richie started instead, songs got weirder and weirder, faster and faster... Things got out of hand to say the least when John Bonham joined on drums, yes music changed BIG TIME and it led to the apocalypse... I saw it all happen and got in my machine again, home to my own year you might think...nooooooo, you see I had this GRAND idea to keep ABBA making records which in turn led to Ian Paice joining that group instead of Benny, now known as AiBA. What happened to Benny??? Well I heard this REALLY strange version of Black Sabbath with Benny Andersson taking over after Ozzy. Sounded very "Folky",,, By the way...Bruce left Samson eventually, started writing books, changed his name to Bruce Dickensin. but you have to ask LightRay95 about that, I left that timeline to convince Bon Scott to stop drinking....
Paul and Bruce are great. Different styles. Paul has a punk sound. Bruce is classic metal all the way. Huge stage persona, Huge vocal ability, and definitely took Maiden to that next level.
Paul is not just punk sound . He is metal , but bluesy as well. And baritone . After Maiden , Paul went more thrashy among others melodic stuff , with a Priest edge ... Then Went hardcore . Bruce was agressive , tenor , In samson then progressivly abandonned that style to an operatic clean one , quite cold , and boring one to me . Bruce could do 2 things . Paul could do it all .. Like Halford .
"After Maiden , Paul went more thrashy among others melodic stuff , with a Priest edge ..." Uh, no. After Maiden he went AOR and glamrock. He tried to cash in on trends. He stared to sound more "thrashy" or "hardcore" when his voice was shot in the 90's. "Bruce could do 2 things" He could, and still can, do way more than that. "Paul could do it all .. Like Halford ." Oh god, please don't compare Di'Anno to Halford. Halford is a vocal legend, while Di'Anno was a servicable heavy metal and glamrock singer for a fairly short time.
I love the front cover of maiden japan, besides this song is very powerful and emotional, i love the voice of Paul di'anno, Hail to England! We will never surrender! the British released us from the Nazi' s they brought us Tabak and Heavy-metal!
Dude. Dont say that. Blaze Bayley is and still is an amazing singer, always put up a good show. Sure, he maybe wasnt the 100 % material for Iron Maiden, but the two albums he did. lissen to them, they are good. And I think he did have a hard time filling those GIGANTIC shoes Bruce Dickinson left behind him.
is this the song that had been their opener when Maiden was froted by Paul DiAnno? This is my favorite and always leads me to listening to more and more metal songs when I didn't feel like it earlier.
The whole show was issued on bootleg cd a couple of years ago and it fuckin' kills! It's just come out on double vinyl too. Find it, it's one of the best metal gigs around...and great quality too...
Still got this cassette tape in working order. we could only hope for another 80's metal era quailty of music.

Para mi Maiden solo llegan hasta el 'seventh son' lo de despues no es que me interese. Killers es un discazo y no es cuestion de comparar si Dickinson cantaría mejor o peor las canciones de los dos primeros albumes. Gracias!
I haven't ever listened to Maiden Japan…Oooooogh! Awful! At stage, Di'anno is more more more freakin' out than at studio. This Purgatory blows Killers' version off completely.
my fav top 3 Maiden song are: caught somewhere in time, killers, purgatory, and of them are paul diano songs, no doubt he is a killer, thanks to both of them for incredibles albums
My God man! They were just a force that couldn't be touched! This is one of the songs responsible for Speed Metal/Punk. This is the blueprint as far as I'm concerned.
One of the blue print
I totally agree. Absolutely ground breaking indeed! It still oozes with class.👌 Reminds me also of Motorhead's Ace of Spades🤘 😎 ❤
Which came first? Purgatory or Ace of Spades? 🤔
Yes!
Killers is my all time favorite album and prodigal son is the most underrated maiden song and this song just fucking slays!! Up the irons!

The best Maiden years. So much more energetic than now.
Go Clive rock us as always!!! R.I.P..

Early Maiden lineup, writing and performances were all simply brilliant. Poor Clive's style was powerful, commanding and yet had such feel... Thinking of him serves as a reminder that we should all strive to succeed, and exercise some humility in our daily lives.
My mom met Clive
Tema más punk no puede existir, gracias maiden

The best song of Iron Maiden!!
I have it on Vinyl in original Japan pressing with booklet in japanese.
Burr en este tema demuestra todo su talento!!
i love this album LP / EP :)
i have this thing tattooed on my arm and i have got 4 eddies all over me :)
i become addicted to Maiden and i still love them !
I hope you are still rocking hard to maiden, 14 years later. I´m going now thru all Purgatoy versions
Paul di' anno um dos melhores vocalistas do Iron maiden ele é o cara mais metal que eu já vi
Wow, the drums of Clive are strong in that concert xD
I split my brain throught the floor
Very speed more than hardcore.....this Is heavy fucking metal!
I like this song.really good.!!
good times
Increible tema!
Los dos mejores discos de Maiden los primeros!
Di' Anno is the BEST!!!!....
Iron maiden own the universe they are gods living amongst us forget jesus and his daddy , bow to The Maiden making beauty for our ears , Up the Irons from UK
I have maiden japan but it doesn't feature purgatory..... i didn't even know that they ever sang it live.....
This song, along with many others, was performed in the concert in Japan. 5 songs from this show were included in the Maiden Japan EP. Purgatory however, wasn't.
Wrong.
This was recorded the day after the Maiden Japan e.p..Do some research.
Your right as Maiden Japan was recorded on the 23rd May 1981 this was recorded on the 24th
when iron maiden does the maiden england tour for 2012 they need to play this song live for all of us fans of the killers album
Paul is the perfect guy for this stuff, but I like so much even Bruce
I bought the album back then as well. I don't remember if I ever had the CD though. However, Purgatory wasn't on the Maiden Japan album that I had. I think it was probably released overseas. There were only five wicked songs... Wrathchild, Killers, Running Free, Remember tomorrow, and Innocent Exile. Maiden Rules....
esa rola me encantaaaaaaa =D
Where is this from? Is it a bootleg? The origninal Maiden Japan had just a few songs
Its released with 17 tracks in Japan " promotional copy - for japanese fans only" as written on the back of the CD cover. I bought mine at Wacken'02.
I don't know why they don't so this song live anymore
This is not the version from Maiden Japan's day. The bootleg that exists is not the whole Maiden Japan, although it is in Japan.
Fans are always making this mess. But its a goddamn version!
@Itaiorg It´s Steve´s Maiden and it was and is great ...excepting nowadays
Of course Paul was a good fit for maiden then, now bruce is the perfect fit for maiden, I will always love paul's voice for sure. killers is my favorite song sang by him.
This was the better lineup they sounded more unique too.. Bruce can't cover early Iron Maiden as good neither can Nicko
I think Bruce is the best singer Maiden got, even tought I like Paul more than Bruce. But the 2 albums Paul did with Maiden are the best records of Maiden, perhaps ever...
Yup with Paul and Clive they were unique and the better lineup
I think he is great singer, the two albums with him are very underrated. He is not as great as paul or bruce.
Fucking Paul Di anno the best vocals
1 person was disemboweled by Eddie and his katana skills >:D
if i were to sell a miaden japan vinyl, how much would i expect to get?
Maiden, Priest, Motörhead. It doesn't get better that these three. Sorry Metallica.
Does anyone know why Di'Anno left or was replaced? And Burr?
Is this on the Maiden Japan album?
Anybody knows if this concert was filmed?
awesome song, just this singer always makes me laugh in this song and some others because he just sounds so much like kermit the frog :x
where did this come from???
Who's Blaze Bailey?
50 bucks!
@OffsidePick... A fuckload. Or at least I'd pay that much for it, it's almost like selling an original Soundhouse Tapes.
Actually he was on cocaine so they replaced him.
At least be glad Blaze Bailey didn't stay.
wrong
Anybody else feel like going back in time and convincing Paul Di'Anno to steer clear of the drugs?
That would be badass but altering history may have made Iron Maiden not as good or maybe even broken up and we would never get the great post-Pau Dl/new Bruce Dickensin albums we have
Iron Maiden were known in Europe U.S Japan etc if Paul stayed sober they would've stayed together
I actually did and he did...(got off drugs that is...) Unfortunately he became a born again hindu and went of to Calcutta, found a Guru that convinced him to become a enuck. We lost track of him after that...

Paul and Bruce are great. Different styles. Paul has a punk sound. Bruce is classic metal all the way. Huge stage persona, Huge vocal ability, and definitely took Maiden to that next level.

Paul is not just punk sound .
He is metal , but bluesy as well.

Paul also had a huge voice and stage persona
I love the front cover of maiden japan, besides this song is very powerful and emotional, i love the voice of Paul di'anno, Hail to England! We will never surrender! the British released us from the Nazi' s they brought us Tabak and Heavy-metal!
Paul's voice's got soooo much personality! I love that guy sooo much!

this is fucking amazing
Since Purgatory wasn't actually included on Maiden Japan, where did you get this? Bootleg? or is it on an official release somewhere?
My absolute most favorite song of Iron Maiden :D
The whole show was issued on bootleg cd a couple of years ago and it fuckin' kills! It's just come out on double vinyl too. Find it, it's one of the best metal gigs around...and great quality too...

I haven't ever listened to Maiden Japan…Oooooogh! Awful! At stage, Di'anno is more more more freakin' out than at studio. This Purgatory blows Killers' version off completely.
cheiras, estoy totalmente de acuerdo.
Paul's Maiden was great and Bruce's Maiden was great too (till 1988). No reason to compare.
my fav top 3 Maiden song are: caught somewhere in time, killers, purgatory, and of them are paul diano songs, no doubt he is a killer, thanks to both of them for incredibles albums
