This is the first of several large scale narrative paintings im doing. THIS YEAR IS GOING TO BE AWESOME!
Will there be some challenge for your fans like the #slewoutlinechallenge? Hyped for your work in 2023!
I can't wait to watch this series to completion. Great stuff.
im mad excited
I’d legit buy that underpainting! The simplistic yet somehow detailed sienna was so nice!
Haha thanks. Yeah I love the underpainting! Was not planning on going that hard but glad I did
@@slewp it was a dope style!! Could be a cool concept to do in the future… on your bigger longer paintings, get good quality pictures/scans at each “stage” as you call them. Then sell those as individual prints, showcasing the journey of the painting… I dunno haha just an idea! I’m sure you’d peak peoples interests
@@slewp the paint on the dress seemed too thick, you could have used multiple glazes to build up the dress, then it would have looked more natural and light. Not bad for a beginner........
An absolute masterpiece! I’m glad you saw this one thru and we’re able to share its journey with us all! I’m inspired to create something! 🤘🏼
Getting through the ugly stage definitely is hard but so worth it, we must remember what lies beyond the ugly stage when we're at it👏🖤
Thank you for talking about the painter's paralysis! Sometimes I forget I'm not the only one who experiences it and beat myself up in the studio. But artistic intimidation is real! I'm glad to see you work through yours and to see the beautiful outcome. I'm curious about the short story you wrote with it!
1. Super excited for the short stories!
2. This vid reminds me a lot of Ten Hundred's journey with the Last Supper
learned so much from a professional artist in this video, excited to see your possible short stories project come to life!🙌
Beautiful painting, you have the right tone and color ratio. A few things struck me. The light comes from the front, when in reality the light comes through the gate from behind. If the gate in the painting is loose in space and there are sky/clouds around the outside of the gate, then the light also comes from the front. As far as I'm concerned, the back could have more blurr, then the beautiful elf comes out even better. I would make 3 paintings at the same time and keep 1 as the original on the other 2, you can freely experiment and make mistakes. What is to say, is critical for advanced painters, the painting has just become very beautiful. You have a nice art channel and I always watch with great interest.
Nice work. I used to run out of steam after about 100 hours as well but thankfully the diligence adds up to more stamina. 300+ hours feels normal to me now. Keep up the great videos. Cheers from Canada.
Incredible perseverance and execution. Nothing short of a masterpiece!
You inspire me!
amazing piece!!!,keep making art🔥🔥🔥
I can't wait to see this series of future works and stories! I would buy a copy of a book by looking at this first painting!
your dedication to your work is so inspiring and motivating and hearing you be so honest about the time it took and the difficulties you had is so so important to represent and something I really value hearing other artists talk about. The piece is incredible and the fact that you are making stories and worlds behind each one is so amazing and shows the depth one can create with art and utilizing different mediums. Can't wait to see the series progress and whenever you do the gallery show (if its in nyc) I hope to be there.
Love your process content and hearing your struggles during your process is always reassuring to hear. Knowing that artists as talented as you still have road bumps and struggles. Keep killin it slew! Gonna have to grab me a hoodie!
Also, the painting is beautiful, her dress is stunning
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!
I love watching you paint man. I just started my painting journey and it gets me stoked to see what a brush can do. Thanks for sharing, what an amazing piece.
This is absolutely marvelous. Good luck with more narrative paintings. Have a wonderful year ahead
Awesome result SLEW! From start to end, beautifully rendered... Thank you for sharing. I haven't worked in oils for twenty years. I miss it. I'm looking forward to the narrative👍🤟🪡🎨
This is really educational to the non artist as well. It’s fun and interesting to hear your process. Your honest narrative makes your interesting process so inviting.
That is so beautiful done! Congrats!
I stuck to the end! I’m super excited about the short stories!! Beautiful work as always ❤
Love your pearls, Slew! What a stunning piece.
As usual it looks epic!!! So excited for this year mate. You’re a weapon!
I'm really liking your approach to an easel. Great idea for people with limited space. Also cool painting!
amazing as always, really enjoy watching the whole process
Seriously, thank you for the video. Behind the scenes, the process, 'gridding - oh yeah' etc. You truly are an amazing artist. 💥
Great behind the scenes.
Great explanation of the process.
Brilliant. :)
WOW, this was amazing insight one painting prep, with the colour wash and technique. I learnt something new...I love when YT videos teach something, as well as make a final product. Thank you for the talk through and explaining things. Slew is like an online art tutor. thanks @slew
Beautiful. I love the coloring of the dress. In the setting of the background. Excellent work. Blessings.
Looks great Slew! Finishing a long project like that must feel incredible. Also appreciate the honesty in the process. Keep it up
Thanks Luke!
Amazing work as always Slew!!! you crushed it well done!!
Beautiful work! ❤
So cool! Great painting! Thx for sharing.
I so appreciate you explaining the entire process. And damned straight I was staying to the end of this one. To be honest, I learned a lot in less than 20 minutes. So thank you! 🏞️🎨💜
Turned out great! I have at least 2 large paintings I've been picking at for over 2 years now, glad to see I'm not the only one who deals with this on certain pieces. I can only dream of having a studio like yours one day, right now my studio is an old shed lol - but I make it work. Thanks for providing inspiration - excited to see the other projects you mentioned in the future.
Had to grab a Queen Elisee print for myself!! So beautiful
Absolutely gorgeous painting and great narration of your process.
Way to go Slew! It’s fun to see someone stick through a long project like this. I’m also inspired by your development of your different interests, like writing now! And that you don’t let the fear of not doing something perfectly from stopping you from going forward. Way to go!
absolutely stunning!!
Nice painting! I've got one of these going now so this is encouraging. I have found the more I struggle, the better the result.
Slew this painting is beautiful! You did a great job!!! Can’t wait to see your other new projects
So in love with this one. And watching the process is always amazing.
Love seeing the research and study that goes into your art pieces! So inspiring, keep it up friend :)
I just completed a "master copy" featuring my husband, it is the Vince Vaughn painting from "Wedding Crashers" for those who have seen that movie. The compositions are very close; watching your process was a complete deja vu experience for myself
Good stuff, Slew!
The painting turned out great!
congrats on finishing this painting. it's amazing! Technique is one thing and an own idea the other one. that's why i love your work. you constantly improving your skills and implement the new knowledge in a unique personal idea.
Excited about your art book. Would be fun to have your visuals combined with your story.
Thank you very much!
@@slewp And don't forget, some of the old masters needed years to finish a painting!
Amazing work Slew! Really beginning to show your growth over all the years of practice. Great job as usual. Excited to see what the short story is all about. :D
Most talented youtuber! And so honest! I love it
You are soooo talanted in so many things ✨✨✨ Looking forward to read those stories ☀☀
Such a nice piece, well worth the time you put into it 🎨
I stayed til the end. The painting looks great and I'm excited about your writing. I love your point about staying patient to get the last layers right. That's hard when you want to be done!
Glad I've found you, I need help with portraits my drawing are to flat but im guna binge watch you to learn everything.
I freakin’ love your videos and insight dude. You’re an inspiration to me so thank you for doing what you do so passionately and sharing it with us.
The painting turned out amazing, I love it! Great idea matching the painting with a written story!!
Awesome work. Was cool to go through the different stadiums. Pls make a print out of it.
Always good content. Nice work.
Wow I haven't seen a video since you were starting to dabble in portraits. Love to see how far you've come with it definitely see all the hard work you put in 👏👏
Stunning!
totally stoked for the upcoming art book!
Can’t wait to see more of these🤩
Hey SLEW, I have done similar projects during my journey as an artist, YOU can do it too! One key to success is not getting sidetracked! I finished my personal projects between what I had to do for work, keeping my lights on and rent paid. Set up a time table for finishing and be as faithful to it as you can. Believe me, things always crop up and so you can get discouraged, don’t let your confidence waver! Like a trip to Italy, stick to plans made and give yourself enough time to enjoy the experience as well! Joy in painting is the true reason we paint to begin with, eh? You will do this we believe in you and will be looking for your finished narrative of paintings! See ya next video!
Its gorgeous
Love your videos!!
Stunning painting! You must be so glad that you've finally finished it! 👍😀
well done! the fabric of her dress is lovely😃
You blew me away as usual! amazing to see the outcome! And somehow reassuring that even the legends have their problems!
Guess my problem is that I give up when I reach the ugly stage! I am the king of ugly stage! Have so many ugly works!
just have to see it through! I ALWAYS get very bogged down during that stage
This will most likely be my favorite video from any creator all 2023. I learned so much abt the entire process and am beyond encouraged to try some techniques for myself. Seeing this all broken down with your commentary really helped to see the value and worth of patience, diligence, and care. Thank you so much! I look forward to what’s to come 🫶🏽
Amazing work!!!!!!
oh i thought you would read that story at the end! haha! super nice video! when you did the brown colour in her face i thought you ruin everything... that`s a crazy technique!
A painting series, that's wassup! I'm working on one too, with similar struggles, especially procrastination/accuracy of colors and details😂. The painting turned out beautifully, and I'm excited to see the rest of the series. Best wishes SLEW, and I hope I can paint at the atelier with y'all someday, NY is dope🔥💕!
Wow your art is so amazing and Jade is so beautiful
Love these fantasy paintings
I can completely relate to the procrastination paralysis- definitely the thing that most gets in my way on bigger projects as well. Glad to see you pushed through it, looks absolutely amazing 🔥
Thanks brotha!
The amount of fear I would have had putting that burnt umber on her faaacee I love the technique though I can’t wait to try it myself thank you for sharing your process ❤your painting is so ethereal
Slew! This was amazing man. You really out did yourself. Can’t wait to see what you have planned. I am hoping one of those 7 or 8 piece is watercolor painting 😅. Where do we get to read your short story? Or are you going to leave that as an exclusive for the book?
I keep saying to myself, " one day I'm going to run into Slew at my old job in Blick but then I remember, " oh wait, he's in Brooklyn. I ain't going all the way out there" 😀😀 Hopefully, I run into you at a gallery in Chelsea or somewhere in Manhattan. Maybe the Met sketching in the European section which is my favorite by far. Love the rub out method with the Q-tip btw.
Thats oil paint for you! Its such a pain!! I admire those who can work the medium!! Its truly complicated to master!! Painting looking delicious and clean as always slew!!! 🙌🙌
Really awesome ! Interesting to watch your art !! Cheers my dear
Great as always bro can’t wait to see the others thanks for sharing
congrats for sticking with this work to the end.. been down that road and most of the time.. those projects die on the side of the road .. This effort reminds me of the other artist.. who i follow as close as i follow you (@JonoDry) .. he too rips through many layers of pencil work.. to the point of insanity.. as for the stories and the sword.. that sword will always remind me of your old studio.. and those many hours.. creating work.. (rent is always a challenge by the way!)
Great video. I can relate to the part of having a painting not done for a really long time, I think it just happens.
My God you give out so much knowledge. Thank you
The fabric is so wonderful. It looks like if you touch the the dress it will feel like satin.
Thank you for sharing❤
It’s cool. Thanks for sharing
Great work bro!
You are werry good artist, so keep going!
I'm seeing every step of the process, yet I can't quite believe how well it all comes together-
amazing painting ❤️😍
Absolutely love your oil work but wondering if you plan on doing any more of you stencil characters this year?
Man, I really enjoy to see all the working process from painting to awesome peace of art. I can see that your paint is so exclusive and unique, I wondering How much for one piece like that. I guess a lot of money, I´ll hope see your art on a skateboard graphic in the future. Wondrous Work, it´s fantastic.
you tube sucks at recommendations! this is awesome! now to watch the original elf painting!
The dreaded sun sneeze 😂😂
If you did 12 in this series, you could put out a calendar.
Great video!
Very cool! Love the finished piece, but I also really liked the underpainting with its monochrome values.
For my traditional oil paintings I typically use transfer paper and l use a site to enlarge the image and then print out full size in B&W from my home printer.
Fye 🔥like always
this is a masterpiece
Very nice!
