This video, and several of the comments, were more helpful than hours of research! I have a much better setup now, despite still using an Exo Terra Monsoon. Having 2 different kinds of sprays works wonders, and I know what to replace the Monsoon with when it inevitably breaks. It's too small to flood BOTH tanks, thankfully, so on that day the plants will just get a really good watering. Thanks all!
I just picked up a monsoon today and love it, super easy to set up and install. I like the mist king nozzle. The mist king is just a diaphragm pump on a timer, you could get one from any farm supply store. They should put it in a fancy compact case to make it more appealing.
Great video, I can tell you this. I have gone through now 3 Monsoon Rainfall systems. They're pumps and timers go out and end up flooding your terrarium cause it doesn't shut off. Anyway quality wise Mist King is much better and better quality. I wouldn't recommend the Monsoon system at all.
The Mistking pump makes a huge difference so you can't compare the nozzles if they aren't on their own respective systems/pumps. The Monsoon nozzle wasn't designed for that pressure. I've seen both in action on there own sytems and I thought the Monsoon was really, like really wet...in your video the droplet size seems much finer. I eventually went for the Mistking. Super powerful, fine spray and very, very quiet...
Yeah, if you like fancy compact cases, then the monsoon is the way to go. However, the mist king allows for you to use your own water resevoir. Why this is a good thing is because if you have, let's say, a huge chameleon vivarium that needs tons of misting, then having a large bucket, like the one in my video, will save you from filling it every couple of days. I fill my bucket about once a month or so. Also, the pump can be neatly mounted under your terrarium (I should probably do this lol).
Still a useful video. My panther will be a happy camper soon, just upgraded him. Also jealous of your BRB set up. I think I can learn somethings from your videos. Huh oh!
Agreed, the spray with the actual monsoon pump causes a much wider spray than shown. Though it ONE nozzle seems to produce large water droplets, the other does not. Mine are not equal hah. That being said, I feel like the nozzle on one side gets clogged a little to easier, while one is going strong. (Using for a Green Iguana)
That is the timer that comes with the Mist King system. Completely digital and has a battery inside so if you lose power, all your settings are not lost. You can check out more info on their site.
Mist King for 2 reasons. 1. Since the display will be very tall and not so wide, you might want a finer mist that will slowly float down, rather than just blast large drops that will either soak 1 area on the side of the tank (since its only 1'8") or just rain down and soak your substrate too much. 2. I think this one is a reason to always get a Mist King... You can put monsoon nozzles on a Mist King if you want heavy spray, but can't put a MistKing nozzle on an a monsoon (not enough pressure).
I use both of them too :D for my chameleons and frogs. on the moonsoon's water container i use a 25 watts aquarium thermostat so the water is always warm at 20° :D nice video !!
yes I do, is very useful to het a little bit the water, for aquariums is recommended 1 watt per liter of water, I use a 15 watts automatic thermostat, it is not just a simple heater, those are dangerous
thank-you for the demo on the exo terra spray nozzle's. thanks to you and Cherokeekid304 I will be using that spray nozzle in a custom pump sprayer misting system design. I don't mind soaked substrate thanks to having a drainage layer for growing pothos in a giant pixie frog tank. need to only soak half the tank so a heavy rain on one side will definitely keep it humid for my frog.
I have had three! Yes 3 monsoon head units! The place I purchased mine from is owned by a friend of mine, he has the monsoon I. His viv and he has had 8 heads! Lol and he sells them we'll not any more! So why are we going through so many heads? It's the design!! You have a fill cap in the top which you unscrew and pour your water through, the problem is it isn't sufficiently water tight to stop tiny amounts of water actually getting into the head unit itself, which is where all your brains for the system are, so it's not a case of "oh it packed up after a few months" it packed up because water has damaged the circuit boards! Very poor design! If you have one, or are thinking of getting one I would recommend taking the head off and fill directly into the canister, this head now has been going for around 6 months doing this, but I expect it to go the same way at some point and I will get the mistking system, actually I'm running my system the other way, monsoon system with mistking spray systems lol
Bought a monsoon seven months ago, the pump is in the top of the unit and uses cheap rubber tubing around the electronic brain/timer. A small pin hole developed and sprayed water all over the electronics. It stopped working so I took it apart to se why and found the circuit boards all covered in corrosion . Completely wrecked the unit. Should have started with the mist king, much better product. Wrecked the pump on my second monsoon when it ran dry.....
thanks for the vid. but actually, a rain droplets is quite different with misting, and needed for different situation, too. Things I want to ask : 1. You have experiences with moonsoon. do you know how to make timer works better, or how to protect it? 2. doest the mistking pump make lot of noise, and does it make a vibration?
Thanks for the review! I also have a BRB and struggling to find something to keep the humidity up as she's a beast and enjoys destroying her viv :) Edit: do you use a drainage system at all? Like the bio orbs?
Natasha Pratley glad you enjoyed the video! No I don't have a drainage system. I just use about 3 inches of coconut coir that I mix in the cage once a week so it aerates and mold never grows. But, if you have the opportunity, a drainage system is great to install!
Awesome! I see them for 90 to 100 bucks, but another that comes with more stuff and is more expensive. For my purpose to just mist and keep the humidity up, would you go with the cheaper package?
A worker at a very well established reptile store where I live told me that in order to keep the Monsoon from glitching meaning keeping it from spraying on its own and overflooding you have to take off the black plastic top and pour the water in the reservoir manually because there are some wires right next the the reservoir that get wet when you dont take off the black top and add water to it with the top on... But Im not telling anyone to do this..Because it is probably a fire risk..
I cannot say anything about the mist king system because I have not received mine yet. As for the moonson in my opinion it is not worth it. While it is easy to set up it does not last. The moter and timer seem to quit working after a few months. I have been through 3 in the last year so I have decided to make the switch to mist king.
Going for the same setup. Going to purchase mistking and purchase Exo Terra Output Tube and nozzle kit and Wanted to know how hard was it to install on mistking?
So this was posted long ago...hopefully you will see this...how do you have the tubing connected outside the tank? I have exo terras, was hoping to connect the tubing to a T connector, then have a short piece though the provided hole in the back of the exo terra to the nozzle being held by a suction cup like you have it.
will these nozzles spray through the top screen instead of suction cupping them inside? I know I use my spray/mist bottle sprays through the top pretty well but didn't know how this one would do.
I have a vertical display case that I'm planning on using for my Amazon Tree Boa. I'm planning on finding a way to use a misting system to spray down from the top to keep the humidity up. Measurements are 1' 8" x 1' 8" x 5' .....For a tall terrarium, which would you suggest?
The question I have is what is it's capability with regards to expansion? Is there room for extra pipes / attachments that can add more pipes? as I would like to set up a shelf soon, and I was wondering how many enclosures it could manage to handle before you'd need to purchase a second system.
the moonsoon holds up for 6 nozzles, and there are 2 mistkings system, the basic is for 10 nozzles and the ultimate is for 20, but if you have a lot of nozzles the water pression will go down (Y)
Alex Garcia Cheers for the quick reply, I guess pressure loss isn't an issue until you use a tonne of pipes, I noticed some can handle up to 60 at a time. But very informative thank you.
The mist king still works like a dream. The monsoon would never have lasted this long unless you make 100 percent sure it never runs empty and you use only purified water. I have let my mist king run empty for a week and it still works like new.
I run the system 3 times a day for a few minutes every day for well over a year now. The exo terra spray bottles (both the mister and the mini mister) are very poor quality and almost always break eventually... I totally recommend using a misting system, but if you want to use spray bottles, just get one from the gardening section of your local hardware store.
hi i think your snake was a Brazilian rainbow boa .. that is the snake i want to buy but i thought of getting my enclosure ready first and then getting the actual snake anyway... my questions for you are 1: how big an enclosure should i get .? ( i have one that is 5 square feet but it is full of holes and from what i have read it is not good for rainbows because of the humidity escaping the enclosure) and 2: do i need a fogger if i have a misting device..?? thnx
Hi Pavlos, They are great snakes but you need to pay attention to temperature and humidity. An enclosure with holes is not a bad thing because the last thing you want is a most cage with poor airflow; that's how you get mold. My enclosure has a screen too, but because my missing system sprays 6 times a day for at least a minute each, it stays nice and humid without staying soaked. You will need to play around with your misting cycle to see what works for you. So to answer your questions: a decent enclosure for an adult rainbow boa is at least 3 feet by 2 feet and no you don't need a fogger if you have a mister, but if you want one because they look cool or you like how it helps keep humidity up between mists, there's nothing wrong with that too.
+DrManoEJ ok thnx for the info bro by the way great video keep up the good work i would really like to see more of your rainbow boa if you had the time to upload a video explaining some does and don'ts you have found a long the way it would realy be very helpful thnx again for an awesome video..!!
+DrManoEJ no i can't think of anything in particular just generally anything you can think of like what kind of lighting they prefer what makes there colour more vivid anything you can think of try to make like a "documentary" on Brazilian rainbows !!
I keep reading that the Monsoon gets clogged up a lot..... I have read that in at least 5 different places so far and even at the reptile show around me told me to stay away from Monsoon systems... Just my opinion...
Yup they do clog up, but that's why you should use distilled water. I use reverse osmosis water that I use from my saltwater tank and I've never had an issue. Worst case, if it does clog, just use a needle to unclog it and run some vinegar through it and it will be good as new!
No problem! Depends on the price of distilled water in your area. With the quantity of water I use with my saltwater tank and snakes, it made sense for me to get the ro. You'll have to calculate it yourself ;-)
This is a false/unfair comparison (no offense) because you're using the nozzle from the Monsoon, not the actual product/tank mechanism. The psi could be varied between the two products determining the outflow of water. As you show, the nozzles have a different spread, though the water droplets on the leaves do not determine the Monsoon a heavier outflow - just that the distance of spray is closer accumulating more water on the leaves. The spray was on for two full minutes, not "a couple secs"...
Tbh exo terra is shit. It cause a flood in my crested geckos tank. I dont have the mistking yet, but from what ive heard i think its the way to go for me!
my monsoon rs 400 timer went to crap on me as of 3 days ago. ive had mine for 4 months. the timer was working right come month 2 and totally went to shit 3 days ago. DO NOT BUY.

snagged the monsoon on amazon for 80 bucks. i dont mind wet substrate because i have live plants. great demo video!

The mistking is a misting system and the monsoon is an Rainfall system so the monsoon has got ofcourse bigger druplets...
I just get the cheapest misters then replace the nozzles with mist king ones
The Rainfall System is not for high pressure, only use for wide and tall terrariums
will these nozzles spray through the top screen instead of suction cupping them inside? I know I use my spray/mist bottle sprays through the top pretty well but didn't know how this one would do.

Hey I've been looking at some pretty dismal reviews for these reptile humidity systems. How have they held up since this video?
The mist king still works like a dream. The monsoon would never have lasted this long unless you make 100 percent sure it never runs empty and you use only purified water. I have let my mist king run empty for a week and it still works like new.
so im looking to get a misting system for the brb i will be buying. would the mistking nozzles fit on the monsoon system? is the tubing the same?
I run the system 3 times a day for a few minutes every day for well over a year now. The exo terra spray bottles (both the mister and the mini mister) are very poor quality and almost always break eventually... I totally recommend using a misting system, but if you want to use spray bottles, just get one from the gardening section of your local hardware store.
I've been using my exo-terra spray bottle for 6+ years with no problem. Not bad for $7.
i have 2 dwarf chameleons coming into my medium tank whats the best mist system to buy up to date ?
Where did you get the suction cups for the mistking nozzle?
beautiful Brazilian!
hi i think your snake was a Brazilian rainbow boa .. that is the snake i want to buy but i thought of getting my enclosure ready first and then getting the actual snake anyway... my questions for you are

+pavlos kollas Sure, I'll shoot one when I have a moment. let me know if there's anything in particular you want me to cover.
+DrManoEJ no i can't think of anything in particular just generally anything you can think of like what kind of lighting they prefer what makes there colour more vivid anything you can think of try to make like a "documentary" on Brazilian rainbows !!
So, you can aim it where you want, but get no control over the mist itself? No way to tune the cone or drop size? That seems wrong.
Could this be used in a screen cage for chameleons?
what one should I use on a veiled chameleon? please help
I'd say mist king.
+DrManoEJ thanks that was fast
Thanks!
@HeavenBound107 You sure can!
@Ryan Kinney yessir!
the fancy dancy thing is a plastic bulk head
So what should I buy? Mist king or monsoon?!
For what animal?
+DrManoEJ dart frogs or another type of frog so lots of moss that needs to constantly be wet to grow and lots of real plants
+Danny Doty definitely mist king. Monsoon drops would be too big, not bad, but mist king would be better for small dart frogs.
+Danny Doty do you know how much mistking cost
+Danny Doty Starts at 129.99 US, but more for advanced systems. Go their website at mistking.com
Aw! Thanks :D
What type of snake is that
I keep reading that the Monsoon gets clogged up a lot..... I have read that in at least 5 different places so far and even at the reptile show around me told me to stay away from Monsoon systems... Just my opinion...

Lol myaaaaw!
Tbh exo terra is shit. It cause a flood in my crested geckos tank.
I dont have the mistking yet, but from what ive heard i think its the way to go for me!
If it caused a flood, sounds like you had it running too long, plus its called 'monsoon' for a reason ;)
Grag Eiliel it wasnt on for too long. the timer prob failed. it turned on for regular misting but didnt stop until it drained the whole tank haha
***** That sucks, guess you'll need to check your timers regularly in case they bug out again
my monsoon rs 400 timer went to crap on me as of 3 days ago. ive had mine for 4 months. the timer was working right come month 2 and totally went to shit 3 days ago. DO NOT BUY.
this is why they don't do monsoon mister systems any more they was shit
mist king all the way! monsoon is crap!
Don't by this shit!
It's so annoying how you say (here) just be normal dude wft
