- Today marks the end of an entire year since the ethnic conflict first began in Manipur. While the first few weeks saw more intense bloodshed, violence continues even to this day, and the Meitei and Kuki communities are living segregated lives within the state. Just in the last week, there have been reports of shooting, of women’s groups stopping the Army from arresting armed civilians who were dressed in police fatigue and also trying to snatch back weapons that had been seized.
The Wire's Jahnavi Sen is joined by senior journalist Sanjay Kumar Jha and The Wire's national affairs editor Sangeeta Barooah Pisharoty to discuss the conflict that has seen no resolution and the BJP state and Union governments' role. Manipur issue should have been taken up with utmost priority. The government of the day had failed to bring peace in the land. The irony is BJP is the ruling government in both the centre & the state which could have been far more easier to handle it.

Such a wonderful discussion this is. We need more such discussions. A discussion that uses referenceable facts than just emotions. Funny fact is the ruling party is talking about the opposition party’s election manifesto than their own manifesto not even their decade long achievements after being in power. This pegs an intriguing question, even if there’s any achievement by this incumbent government, does that resonate in anyway to this country’s common man’s life. If none then India lost a precious decade in this modern era where every days every minute counts. A true leadership will pave a good path for a better future not dwell on past with no scope of future for its masses. Any day I would want the best of the best options but if my only options are between bad and worse, I would rather choose to go with the bad than the worse. Just a request to Wire, i am from Barak Valley Assam , we have a road to Reach Guwahati via Meghalaya is blocked due to pathetic road condition from last 4-5 years and moreover landslides due to Heavy rainfall, another way to reach Guwahati is Via Train which is again disrupted due to Landslides and cancellation of Raily / train there is another way via Half Long road which is again washed away by rainfall, why no one is Speaking about us ? Why we are disconnected from every part when rain arrives.
Currently as of now i.e
May 2nd 2024 our only way to reach Guwahati is Via Air /airplane ✈️
