Another great video! I really like the growth habit on white peaches. All the ones I've seen and mine all seem a low spreading habit. Pretty nice sized Shirazz, one of my favorites.
Love your collection! Trying to find the prefect Japanese maple for east TX heat. I have one but all the leaves got fried from the heat 2 months ago. I was hoping leaves would return since the branches weren’t brittle, but hasn’t been the case yet. Unfortunately, I have no shade in my yard, so the Japanese maples may not be the best tree for me. Maybe I’ll try the Emperor 1 or Moonfire. Wish me luck!
Lovely garden trees! I love garden JMs, but maybe not that big for my yard! Some of those are Massive! I hope mine don’t get that big in the ground, haha. Good to see they’re very healthy in Cali. Sacramento same climate as LA/OC you think? Healthy probably due to being in the ground I assume (vs a pot). I think those conifers are podocarpus/maki... if so, they are also popular as shaped niwaki.
Thank you! They definitely grow faster and get larger in the ground. Sacramento gets more rain and is also a little cooler in the winter than OC but the summer is similar. You're correct, those are Podocarpus.
does atropurpureums necessarily get that big? i've planted one last year between two large trees. and i was hoping it would not exceed 4metres-12ft height
Atropurpureum is a general term for red Acer palmatum seedlings. It isn't a true cultivar. Because of this, there is genetic variability. Meaning that there is a wide range of sizes that the tree could ultimately attain.
What do you think of the fall color of atropurpureum? I see several Japanese Maples near my house that were reddish in the spring, and turned green in the summer. However, their fall foliage was an absolutely spectacular red color. I am not sure if they are Bloodgood or Atropurpureum.
Atropurpureum isn't a true cultivar but a name given to red Acer amoenum seedlings. Because of this, the genetics can vary from tree to tree. Those trees turning red in the fall could be any number of red Acer amoenum cultivars, including 'Bloodgood', 'Oshio beni', 'Fireglow', etc. I've seen trees labeled as "Atropurpureum" turn red, yellow or a mixture of those colors.
Someone please help. My problem with maples is these tiny spiders that spin these little webs around the buds. They eat the buds and are destroying my trees. I sprayed them and it doesnt seem to help.
Whats the most heat tolerant maple in your opinion? Moonfire, Bloodgood, Emperor 1 or Fireglow? Or are they all pretty super star when it comes to full HOT sun?
Emperor I has been the clear winner in my experience. It took at least 5 or more years to establish itself though. Don't expect young unestablished trees to be tolerant of extreme conditions, hot or cold.
@@ConnahJay They are very similar. Emperor gets bigger than Moonfire. Emperor needs full sun to maintain it's color while Moonfire can handle part sun and still have good color. They have the same leaf shape. Moonfire has darker bark.
Wow, what a beautiful collection! They all look so beautiful together. 😍
Excellent video and collection. I just bought my first seedling. Love the colors and hope that I can keep it alive. Don't see any in my area.

No wonder you like plants! Looks like the nut didn't fall far from the tree lol Thanks beautiful garden and home.
Beautiful.
Nice collection
Love the info about Emperor 1 as I have a full sun spot that I would love it in. Thanks!
@Carol Rose. It’ll take it a couple years to adapt to it. Mine scorched the first couple summers but the 3rd year they performed like champs.
Love your video!!!
Thank you!

Look up Metro Maples in Fort Worth, Texas. They propagate a series of Acer truncatum that is specifically for Texas heat.

very nice collections. Love the collections on atropurpureum and green acer palmatum. They grow tall. Are they rarely to see in people's garden?
Thank you. Not so rare in California but possibly in other parts of the world.
Moon Fire & Blood Good are really nice! Parents yard could be a nice habitat to see harrier fly as well!
That harrier fly can be a pesky bugger.
Damn that place is heaven

@@maplecollector4398 Thanks. I just purchased 1 Bloodgood and 2 Emperor 1 Japanese Maples. Hopefully they will look nice in the fall.
Are you going to post any new videos soon?
I'll post one soon.

I'm no expert on pests or pesticide s but it sounds like spider mites. You should be able to do a search for the best treatment methods.
When the Japanese maples drop their leaves is it a hassle to clean?
No

Maple Collector Excellent, thank you! Do you have any experience with Osakazuki and it’s level of heat tolerance/full sun?
@@ConnahJay yes, Osakazuki does great in full sun.
@@maplecollector4398 Now heat tolerance aside, what has the best best color, leaf and shape, Moonfire vs Emperor 1?
