Croix de Fer and Alpage de Balme - Chamonix Hiking & Trail Running

This is a very nice little loop on the far end of the Chamonix Valley above the hamlet of Le Tour. The highlights are the Col de Balme, the Croix de Fer, Catogne and the Alpage the Balme. This route is on easy trails, except for the crest trail leading to the Croix de Fer. That part is technical and has big drops on both sides. I would recommend against going there with children. Dogs are allowed on this route but should be on a leash. There will be parts of the trail that are in the shade of the mountain and as such there can still be snow up to mid July or beyond.
