I wanted England to win of course but Italy winning softened the blow.

I know very well what losing like that means to a fan, especially when so young (we lost to Argentina in semifinal Italy 90 and in final to Brasil four years later: in 1990 I was 13...). Ben was clearly nervous about his boy's safety when walking around. I am English but some of our fans make me ashamed to be English. They are an absolute disgrace.
The problem is society based though and not really about football. Unfortuntely we have a culture of people who seem to think you have to get smashed out of your face to enjoy any event. Very sad.

I'm italian. I don't feel no joy in knowing you people over there are disappointed and sad. Be proud as a father of having been shared such moments, even though not winning ones, with your kid who will keep them in his heart, as some of the best memories ever, having shared something important with his Dad.
I know well what does it mean this kind of displeasure in the eyes of a kid. I was 10 y.o. when in Worl Cup Italy '90 Argentina knock out Italy from the tournament. Bitter tears, and my father trying to lift up my mood.
Now I'm 41, and I'm trying to share and teach the real values of this sport, commitment, friendship and respect with my kid who's 5.
This is sport, let's try to take it as it come. Love and respect to all of you from Italy.

During the EURO 2020 qualifiers Bulgaria were racist towards England players by making money noises, the game had to be stopped twice to correct the fans.

As a Scotland fan who’s followed Scotland all over Europe in qualifying games I can safely say I’ve never felt worried about going to a game among my own fans. That really is a sad state of affairs that a man taking his son to the football was worried about his own fans and the safety of his son.

I've seen many videos about what happened at Wembley that Sunday, from both the Italian and the English perspective. Let me tell you, I have not seen ONE where someone actually said "don't boo them" or commented about how Italy's players were worthy opponents. You knew fully well how important this match was and how both teams were giving their all, as expected from a true player and fan. You are an example for every english football fan out there. In life, you win some and you lose some, but this day with his dad will stay in your son's memories forever and that's what really counts in the end. I know this because I lost my dad 14 years ago and it's this kind of memories with him that I cling to. You're such a loving dad, it was great to see this.

What a rollercoaster of emotions! As an Italian, I could not be happier with the outcome. But I wanted to give you credit for such a great demonstration of class in defeat. As a father, I want to express all my admiration and sympathy for how you took your son through it all and gave him (and us all) a long-lasting lesson in the true values of sportsmanship.
Sharing this was somehow therapeutic. Thank you for this video Ben. We experienced it like you and went through all the same emotions. You are a shining example to your son of how to be respectful and appreciate all the effort the England team gave throughout this tournament.

I was both the Denmark game (I'm Danish) and the final (I live in England). After the semifinal, the Danish fans remained to celebrate their team even though they lost. But England fans didn't care for anything but victory.

That’s why they helped England beat Denmark. They feared they wouldn’t sell all tickets if England wasn’t part of the final. Doubt many would have gone, had the final been Italy - Denmark. One big scam that Sterling penalty 😉
