Dragon Warrior is a turn-based role-playing video game released in North America for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1989. The objective of the game is to locate three items (Silver Harp, Stones of Sunlight, and Erdrick’s Token), trade the Silver Harp for the Staff of Rain, trade the three items for the Rainbow Drop, use the Rainbow Drop to create a bridge to access Charlock Castle, and with Erdrick’s Sword and Erdrick’s Armor, defeat the Dragonlord in the bottom of Charlock Castle to restore peace.
The Dragon Warrior Randomizer adds customization and replay value to the original retro game, and is raced competitively online. A new overworld map is generated with each randomizer seed, chest and search spot contents are shuffled, enemy monster zones are mostly shuffled and monsters can have different abilities such as spells (sleep, healing, stopspell) and/or breath fire. Weapon shop items are shuffled. XP requirements to level up are reduced to 75%, enemy XP & Gold rewards are increased, and spell MP costs are reduced, mostly in line with the SNES Dragon Warrior remake, to facilitate faster gameplay. Your character’s strength, agility, HP, and MP growth upon level up is randomized but generally scaled to finish the game around level 16 though it can range anywhere from around level 13 to as much as level 20 or occasionally beyond. Your character’s spell learning at each level is shuffled, but you are guaranteed to learn all spells by level 16. Equipping the Death Necklace gives you +10 Attack Power at the cost of 25% of your maximum HP and being cursed. Equipping the Fighter’s Ring gives you +2 Attack Power. Additional alterations to the game are available but the description above covers the Standard randomizer flagset.

Is the maps randomized? I never actually played the original Dragon Quest. The randomizer of course

One of the Randomizer settings is to turn on or off a random map. Vast majority of the time we race with Random Map on, but once in a while play with Random Map off, as we did this time. So in this video, the map topography and location points are the same as the original Dragon Warrior/Quest game, but each location is still randomized for towns and caves. In other words I know each spot on the map where a location will be, but it's random which town or cave will be in that spot. The one exception is Charlock the final castle, that is always in the original location with Random Map off.
Great question, hope you're enjoying the videos and can join the live streams on my Twitch!
