    We received some new info from HP after CES about the Omen Transcend 14: The $2000 price is for the configuration we had at CES and the actual starting price is $1499. Also, the construction is aluminum with a sandblasted anodized finish.

    A $50 upcharge from 16gb to 32gb of ram on the spectre 14 is insanely refreshing. Great to see soldered ram isn’t so much of a downside here.

    • @fVNzO
      @fVNzO 10 місяців тому +47

      The funny thing is, they're still making good margin on that price when using soldered RAM. I don't mean they're overcharging, but that it's *still* at a quarter the price of competitors a good money maker for HP. Just puts into perspective how extortionate Apple and Dell are. 50 is reasonable.

      And it's good RAM too at that. Insane speeds. 32GB of this and you will probably never need to upgrade in the life of this laptop. I doubt you will ever need more RAM on a 14" thin and light anyway. This is soldered RAM that finally doesn't get me mad.

    • @fVNzO
      @fVNzO 10 місяців тому +6

      @@azenyr It's the best RAM you can currently get i believe, they obviously optimized the trace lengths to get that speed. At any rate it's easily superior to what apple is charging 4x the price for. They're using the same BGA's they did in 2021/2020

      At what point do we just have magnetic connectors already? I often think that people overreact when design flaws come up with products and many claim that it's 'planned obsolescence'(I mean, that is a thing, just not like many seem to think), I whole heartedly believe that 'Hanlon's Razor' is the answer more often than not. But I'll be damned if laptop charging ports aren't planned obsolescence, we can't get an ounce of R&D in THIS area lmao.

    There has to be at least one artist at Linus media group who could chime in with *some* sort of info on the touch screen/tablet mode/pen support other than "I don't care"
    It's a 2-in-1, completely bypassing the tablet mode is like reviewing a gaming rig and saying "it's got a graphics card or something, I don't know. It will definitely run League of Legends."

    • @RyTrapp0
      @RyTrapp0 10 місяців тому +1

      They've never really covered tablets much TBH, so this is just an extension of that. On one hand, I suppose it could be worth having someone to specialize in covering those sorts of devices; on the other hand, that segment just seems to move at a glacial pace compared to the rest of the industry.

    • @clutchclutch13
      @clutchclutch13 9 місяців тому +2

      @@RyTrapp0 I don't think it's fair to say that digital art has moved at a glacial pace, it's just been separate for a long time with companies like wacom. I can see that kind of stuff being too specialized. But when main stream 2-in-1s are starting to enter into that space, being shipped with pens and advertised for digital art, I think it's worth touching on.
      Obviously this video had limited access and only one person to look at specs and do a brief first impression, I'm just complaining in the comments that I would like to see more said about those kind of art features when companies present them. I know LTT group reads their comments.

    Pretty hype for some 14 gaming laptops with dgpu that is pure USB c pd for power. I liked my g14 but the power brick charger does make the overall backpack space more than you'd think. Can't wait to see how it compares with other 4060 4070 laptops.

    • @DigitalJedi
      @DigitalJedi 10 місяців тому +1

      When I had a G14 I set up an 90W power limit profile in G-Helper for 100W type-C gaming. 25W CPU limit and 65W GPU limit with the screen capped at 60hz to save some power on the panel. Sure, not as fast as the full 85W CPU and 105W GPU, but it was still better than the iGPU-only I had set up on battery with a 15W cap (basically converts to 6900HS to 6800U).

    Haptic touchpad, variable refresh rate, and that spectacular webcam are all pretty nice upgrades over the last model!
    However, I'm a bit worried about the battery life for the Spectre considering it ONLY comes with an OLED. But considering the Zenbook 14X OLED is getting about the same battery life as the Macbook Air, I would assume it would be pretty good. Wish it would come in actual silver though.
    Also, HP probably is reporting accurate battery specs for its higher end models, but in my experience, they have been reporting double or even triple the real battery life on its models like the Pavilion or lower.
    Also also, the 16" starts at $1598.99 US.

    currently have the 2021 model of spectre x360 and i use it with an egpu, the 16 gb of ram has been such a bottleneck so if i can get the 3:2 form factor with 32 gb of ram then im sold on a new hp

    HP finally ditching Intel Arc discrete graphics and moving back to Nvidia on the Spectre is a good move (that's what stopped me from recommending it before), and with Dell's questionable choices for the XPS I think the Spectre is a really good alternative premium Windows laptop.

      they ditching the intel Iris X, the new meteorlake apus have the intel Arch insted of the Iris which is more than 2x stronger. The Spectre 14 has Arch only.

      @@Antal46 Yep. In 2023s model though the HP Spectre maxed out with an Arc A370M which was quite bad compared to the 40-series Nvidia cards, and that's why I never considered it. This year they have an RTX 4050 option which is a far better option.

    The problem with pixel voltage for VRR technologies is nothing new. If MSI has adjusted it for a few fixed frame rates, why doesn't any manufacturer bother to adjust it manually from at least 38 - 120/165hz and eliminate the VRR flickering? All manufacturers are probably waiting for LG Display and Samsung Display so that they can solve the problem on the hardware level themselves.

    People who were thinking of abandoning windows to get an apple silicone Mac have a lifeline now.
    Nice to see the MacBooks no longer have a monopoly on well rounded hardware (build quality, screen, speakers, sensible io, sensible and quick specs).

    Hyper X headphone bundle... Does this mean that built-in speakers are not as good? I love listening to audiobooks and podcasts in bed before I fall asleep. Any headphones in this situation are uncomfortable. This could be a dealbreaker to me if the built-in speakers are below average. Could you, please, clarify this in your future review?

    If you're getting a laptop for future use, save yourself the trouble and get the 32GB version.
    Storage was never really a big problem even for soldered down models (at a minimum of 512GB) because you can always add an extra SD card or external USB drive. (Or cloud storage)

    • @BahhBahhBrownSheep

      lol if you think soldered storage is okay, you’re insane. Especially if you also think an SD card or cloud based storage is convenient or fast enough.
      Frankly I’m really disappointed you got any likes on this opinion.

      @@BahhBahhBrownSheep I don't like soldered down storage either, but sometimes you're out of luck. Cloud based storage is convenient though. At least for me it is. I was just listing down some solutions. The best would be to buy a laptop where everything was swapable.

    Do more 15 or 16-inchers have vapor chambers this year?
    Cuz I swear with the help of a vapor chamber the larger SKUs could sustain 115-125W to the GPU with an 85-99Wh battery while keeping the weight down to 2kg or less.

    One suggestion:
    Please leave out "type" as talking about USB, it's just USB A or C or whatever and which gen, concise is best:
    "type" is redundant' and just sounds like you're reading or reciting something you read.
