We received some new info from HP after CES about the Omen Transcend 14: The $2000 price is for the configuration we had at CES and the actual starting price is $1499. Also, the construction is aluminum with a sandblasted anodized finish.
The funny thing is, they're still making good margin on that price when using soldered RAM. I don't mean they're overcharging, but that it's *still* at a quarter the price of competitors a good money maker for HP. Just puts into perspective how extortionate Apple and Dell are. 50 is reasonable.
And it's good RAM too at that. Insane speeds. 32GB of this and you will probably never need to upgrade in the life of this laptop. I doubt you will ever need more RAM on a 14" thin and light anyway. This is soldered RAM that finally doesn't get me mad.
@@azenyr It's the best RAM you can currently get i believe, they obviously optimized the trace lengths to get that speed. At any rate it's easily superior to what apple is charging 4x the price for. They're using the same BGA's they did in 2021/2020
At what point do we just have magnetic connectors already? I often think that people overreact when design flaws come up with products and many claim that it's 'planned obsolescence'(I mean, that is a thing, just not like many seem to think), I whole heartedly believe that 'Hanlon's Razor' is the answer more often than not. Holy shit that omen has a 90W RTX 4070 despite being so thin blows my mind. I guess we need a follow up testing for that one. Anyways damn that's one hella crazy thing!
Other 14" gaming laptops (at least in the same price segment) have 100+ W TGP for GPU, and they're not much thicker (like 1-3mm at best) so I wouldn't consider impressive. They're more likely limited on this Omen because of that 140W charger (Power Deliver 3.1 only)
There has to be at least one artist at Linus media group who could chime in with *some* sort of info on the touch screen/tablet mode/pen support other than "I don't care" It's a 2-in-1, completely bypassing the tablet mode is like reviewing a gaming rig and saying "it's got a graphics card or something, I don't know. It will definitely run League of Legends."
They've never really covered tablets much TBH, so this is just an extension of that. On one hand, I suppose it could be worth having someone to specialize in covering those sorts of devices; on the other hand, that segment just seems to move at a glacial pace compared to the rest of the industry.
@@RyTrapp0 I don't think it's fair to say that digital art has moved at a glacial pace, it's just been separate for a long time with companies like wacom. Pretty hype for some 14 gaming laptops with dgpu that is pure USB c pd for power. I liked my g14 but the power brick charger does make the overall backpack space more than you'd think. Can't wait to see how it compares with other 4060 4070 laptops.
When I had a G14 I set up an 90W power limit profile in G-Helper for 100W type-C gaming. 25W CPU limit and 65W GPU limit with the screen capped at 60hz to save some power on the panel. Sure, not as fast as the full 85W CPU and 105W GPU, but it was still better than the iGPU-only I had set up on battery with a 15W cap (basically converts to 6900HS to 6800U).
Nice to see they've gone back to removable wifi card on the Spectre x360. We dropped Spectre (and HP) from our org after using them for 5 years... because they soldered in the wifi cards on the last models we used. Manufactured e-waste stuck in wifi 5 land.
HP just upgraded their quality. Love that... But still HP, remove any software... Please... I had to downgrade my HP to W10 because there was one driver feature bugged in W11... Don't ever trust battery life claims from HP. Their battery life tests are almost aways done in complete idle at the desktop with wifi OFF and brightness at 250 nits (kinda low). Any modern laptop can get amazing battery like that... real use expect like 50% of what they claim, at best, on any HP laptop.

@@BahhBahhBrownSheep I don't like soldered down storage either, but sometimes you're out of luck. Cloud based storage is convenient though. At least for me it is. I was just listing down some solutions. The best would be to buy a laptop where everything was swapable.
Really interested on the spectre 16 😊
Do more 15 or 16-inchers have vapor chambers this year?
Cuz I swear with the help of a vapor chamber the larger SKUs could sustain 115-125W to the GPU with an 85-99Wh battery while keeping the weight down to 2kg or less.
As a Spectre user for many years, I never cut myself on the edges. The idea never even entered my mind. Silly argument.
my old hp elitebook 840 g5 also had 120 Hz screen. In a business machine from 2018, sooo...Innovation?
Why would you want your headphone cord going away at a 45 degree angle tho? Should have been another thunderbolt for display out
Force touch? On a Windows laptop? Color me interested indeed!
You said one of the best for Omen, so which one us the best 14 inch laptop
HPs look pretty and break easy.
Alex! Please, put a bug in HPs ears about offering US keyboards in Canada! The French Canadian layouts they only offer online are a menace!! Please! Tell them!!
Very nice, I always try getting my laptops from HP, will look at these.
One suggestion:
Please leave out "type" as talking about USB, it's just USB A or C or whatever and which gen, concise is best:
"type" is redundant' and just sounds like you're reading or reciting something you read.
When is it going to be available for Europe?
@ShortCircuit Why don’t you guys review HP's Victus gaming laptops?
My first thought - that's good XPS replacement :D
But cmon, HP, we need more thunderbolt and USBC4 ports, time to leave USB A behind
usb a is mandatory for flash drives, external keyboards and mouse and whole lot more things- 2 usb a ports is the minimum for it to be a decent amount of ports IMHO
