Aloha! We created a quick video capturing some of the harvest we have received this autumn. We were so excited to get a ton of starfruits from our young trees. We also discovered our second nam wah banana rack was ready to be harvested!
The main object of this video was to demonstrate how to propagate bananas and expand your banana families. Once a banana produces fruit, the clump is ready to be expanded. So we chose 2 of the smallest keikis to remove from the clump in order to replant in other parts of the property! The abundance is real. We chose to plant more nam wahs because they are resistant to the disease bunchy top. Also, because they taste really darn good.

We hope you enjoyed this video and that you had a fruitful thanksgiving. Aloha and mahalo :)
Thank you for sharing.
"The Baptism" - LOL. Y'all rock. I'm binging on your videos & feeling SOOOOOO inspired!
I've never heard them being called Keikis before. We call them pups everywhere else.
It’s the Hawaiian word for children 👶🏼
Using an oʻo bar to cut The keiki 👍
You guys are awesome! So sick you got so much of your own foood 😍🤘
Thanks katie!!
Cutting the V out of the banana stem half way or a bit higher will prevent the rack from being able to hit the ground, it’ll just swing right above the ground. And yeah coconut shells and rocks become weed guardians. I’d make big piles or pit for them.
+Frutario Jason Kvestad that makes sense 😃 next time we'll get it right! We really are trying to figure out the best use of all the lava rocks, there's so many. Time to learn stone masonry...
I can see how one day you will have way more fruit than you can eat. I hope there are no spiders in bunches of bananas like there are in South America. I was wondering what the geckos prey upon? Glad to see Paulina is much better.
+joe pacholik Yeah I think we already have way more starfruits and lilikoi than we can eat... But we are patiently waiting for our favorites to starr fruiting: dragonfruit, Rollinia, white Sapote... Yum.
Geckos prey upon flies as far as we've seen. And they like to lick fruit for carbs.
Rainy season 😕Fun video! ❤️ I approve of those starfruits 👍The sound transitions are awesome!
+GoVegan! Gytis 😁 thanks for watching Gytis! 🌈❤️🌟🌠💚
Learned a lot! Mahalo. 🌺
Thats so cool
+Josh OB 😎🍌
That was a great video! Great to see paulina smiling and not being sick. Have you guys ever tried boiling bananas & drinking the water to help you sleep? Its pretty crazy how good it makes you sleep. I've only done it with crappy store bought bananas, your banana juice would turn out great! stay dry... & classy. 😀🌴🌴🌴
+freebird MCchester hah that's cool, never heard of that idea! We'll keep that in mind next time the rain thumping on the roof gets too unbearable to nod off. 🤙😪🍌😴
Namwah! My favorite too, we just had a rack harvested.
Just wanted to let you guys know , i love your videos, its good to see good people doing great things, and understanding true happiness...
Im planning on moving to the big island ...off grid eventually as well, once i sell my house here in Colorado ..
Keep up the great work and keep the videos coming, there very inspiring!!!!
Best-
+Keith coursey thanks for the kind comment 🤙😄
Please sell me a nam wah keiki. I live in Pahoa.
Can you send us an email?
@@OffGridHawaii What is your email address please?
What's a grafted tree?
You could probably find a lot of detailed info about it with a quick Google search. But basically a tree that gets a branch from a better or older tree of the same species spliced onto it in order to grow the better tree for quality and quicker fruit production.
good video Michael Pauline. one of my favorite restaurants would have fried bananas fried in a non-stick pan until slight brown spots then doused with honey caramelized and a small Dash of cinnamon keep everything organic such a wonderful flavor. keep in mind we love to cook it's not only a hammer I like to hold on to but a spatula and frying pan as well, just with your videos alone is making a strong case for why I should invest in a freeze dryer not a dehydrator. not one piece or scrap of fruit or vegetable wasted. have a wonderful day guys Paul and Jill
+Paul Torres awesome! How much is a freeze drier? Freeze dried fruit taste so good. Our friends at miamifruit sell all kinds of exotic freeze dried foods and they let us taste their sampler, it's like fruity pebbles cereal 😀🌈🤙
check your messenger Michael I left the info on there have a wonderful day guys. Paul
Aloha guys, truly enjoying your videos. I lived down Kalapana for 4 years off grid, incredible. Been back on mainland for 2 years but am dreaming of coming back soon. Loved being off grid. Are you guys in Hawaiian Acres?
+kentnapper mm Kalapana is so beautiful 😃 We won't disclose our location because we trying to be secretive so we don't get harassed by paparazzi 😎😀
Candy Apple bannas.
thriving
+ricky lahey 🌟🌠🌈🌠🌟
non-stick is bad for you.
+Joe Monroe Yes, we have received this comment before. It's one of those concepts that haven't quite "stuck" with us yet, but when we find an alternative we will do our best to discontinue using the nonstick pan.
OffGridHawaii
Heavy base stainless steel bottom pan with a bit of avocado oil or sunflower oil to prevent sticking is what I use. A healthy alternative is a cast iron pan, which gives you some iron when cooking, which you would need to season with oil.
Yes, any nonstick cookware is toxic.
Baby stealers..
+Frutario Jason Kvestad haha we were thinking of naming this video "How to take a baby from it's mother"
A lawn mower, seriously? They are as annoying as leaf blowers.
What’s annoying about it? The noise? Or using it? We don’t use it much because most our ground is rocky, but we use to it to collect grass clippings to use in our compost heater
Hilo side rains a lot doesn’t it....☔️
+sarahrose0413 yep! 😀☔🌈
OffGridHawaii We have toyed with moving to the big island.... but we have a now 18 year old with autism that needs programming..... and Hawaii isn’t the best place for that..... so in AZ we will stay...... and I’ll just watch you 2 and dream.
+sarahrose0413 AZ is also a beautiful place!
