I've always heard the story of targeting bowlers in the field to tire them out about Don Bradman. Allegedly did this to Harold Larwood so he'd bowl shorter spells, hit a ball just past him, but not to the boundary, so Larwood would have to chase after it all day. As Jarrod said, these stories always have some embellishment :)
I know many have and will wax lyrical about the genius of Viv Richards. My favourite anecdote was that he used to target certain 2nd string bowlers by belting the first or second ball of their over, aiming for a 4 or 6, and the same for the 5th or 6th ball. Then just leave or play & miss or defend the rest of the over. Thereby lulling them and the skipper into a false sense of the plucky part-timer being able to tie down the mighty Viv. When in reality they were going for 8-10 runs an over.
Fun fact: All the stock footage for all your videos was filmed at Claremont Cricket in Cape Town, South Africa. Some famous names have played for them in the past including Jacques Kallis and Gary Kirsten. They were also national club champions in 1997. I also once got a duck there. Good times.
I definitely remember the theory of not attacking the "weaker" bowlers too much. In the 90s in commentary sunil gavaskar etc would mention the indian batting line up should aim for a reasonable number of boundaries of a bowler like phil simmons so the west indies captain keeps bowling him and thus avoid having the face the more dangerous bowlers.
The folklore of cricket it fascinating at all levels. Even at the lowest level, you hear these kinds of tales. And what do they have in common? Usually, a kernel of truth, of an admirable and fascinating truth about human potentiality. Another great video.
Aravinda De Silva was a True genius. He never did his talent justice because cricket was a hobby for him when he came into SL cricket because of how early it was. Watching him hook, cut, pull and flick prime Brett lee for sixes at 37 years of age was incredible.
A request. Make this a series and explain stuff about other batsmen too. If you do decide to make a part 2, please explain the Viv richards thing where he used to plant his foot outside off stump so as to eliminate risk of being lbw (read it on wikipedia) and then play the bowlers on his terms.

I'm not sure if Miandad was the first to use the lofted cover drive consistently in ODIs, he probably was, but I think Glenn Turner was doing this in tests and first-class cricket a lot, before Miandad. Specifically chipping it over cover's head, but not attempting to smash it to the fence. DO you have any info around this? Temperamentally they were very different cricketers, but I feel their approach to batting, or at least thinking about batting, was very similar.

He said this based on the opinion of an unnamed Karnataka ranji player who had played against him in the aforementioned match. Sunny G then wrote an angry letter saying it was purely tactical and that most people didn't share the opinion barring a couple of cricketers Suresh hangs out with. Also, is Gavaskar's commentary that bad to somehow obscure his greatness as a batter, even in the least? He's cringey but makes good technical points every now and then.

The 16 run disparity in Miandad's Home & Away averages makes me question is "genius". To me, a great batsman should have a similar home & away average. But that's just my opinion. Sounds like Ramprakash might be a good coach.

gavaskar has really good insight especially with batsmen - they need him to do a special min or 2 every drinks break. much better value.
