The Michigan State marching band takes the field at Spartan Stadium before the annual rivalry match against the University of Michigan on October 15, 2011.
Let's be honest with this: the physicality of the Spartan Marching Band's marching is unparalleled, and the musicality is truly remarkable. I am so very proud to call myself a Spartan.
Third year member of the SMB here. We're great friends with OSU's band. As far as who's better, we've got our own seperate fields on lockdown. But that's not the goal, so let's just enjoy the music, shall we?
This is what you'd expect from a band whose first 10 members were Civil War veterans -- this SMB field entrance deploys its 300 members in UNDER one minute! This is what those good ol' Ohio boys Grant and Sherman expected when they told units they needed "to come on the QUICK!" If it had been left to C-bus's so-called "tbdbitl," we'd all be singing "Dixie" right now.
Jason Lucey most of the SMB drum majors are able to do a backbend touching the ground without a hat, it's just a tradition that UM has because they like to show off. SMB doesn't do it simply because of the chin strap and all.
I love my MSU band, but OSU's band dotting the "I" before the OSU/MSU game last year was pretty awesome, even my bud (a Michigan fan) thought it was great. OSU's is best while MSU's is a close 2nd.
Yeah... no. MSU has been marching this style since the University's inception. The pregame has rarely deviated from what you see today. The Fight Song and cheers and Pregame have been the same for more than a century.
All I saw was the band but I heard the LOUD MOUTH drown out any thing else with is singing, hey if you are gonna put this on youtube at least to it the right way or don't do it at all! Watch O.S.U videos to see how it is done. Best Regards.
Every time you zoomed in and out the video sound was muffled. Also, it would be nice if someone could post one of these videos without the lame background comments and terrible singing. I much prefer to hear the band than your voice, thank you.

California, here we come! GO GREEN!
This was a fun one. My first year marching at michigan and my squad leader gets water dumped on him by a drunk UofM fan. Stay classy, ann arbor.
Damn, look at all that green in the crowd.. :P
Love this guys voice hahaha
The University of Michigan drum major takes his hat off when he does the back bend
No one cares about lil sis

so this is where famu's marching 100 gets their stuff from?
they got it from Ohio State.
SAMUEL JOHNSON Big 10 style is the mother of show bands then! All these years and I thought we created it :(
FAMU changed Marching Band from the traditional "military block", to what is is now.
So MSU got it from FAMU.
