One suggestion, before removing the spark plugs blow out those spark plug wells to remove any sand or dirt. If dirt is present it can fall into the cylinder when you remove the spark plug.
I’m doing this myself this weekend...thank you. As a woman, I’ve been told heinous prices...one time I was charged $275 because the manifold cover made it hard to put the engine cover back on 🤨 oh we fought tooth and nail...I was born at night but not last night
I changed my spark plugs on my 2014 Kia Forte EX by watching this video. My car was lurching when accelerating, especially around the 40 mph mark. I've been working on my car myself by just doing research online, and this is one of the videos that helped me immensely. Great walkthrough, great tips, and filmed/edited perfectly. Thank you so much.
You can save yourself more time by not having to remove the wire connections from the sparkplug boot. All you need to do is unhook the battery cable. Taking those wires off the boot invites the opertunity to damage the clip connections that lock the spark plug wires to the spark plug boot.
Those boots also house the ignition coil for each plug so you should be extremely careful with them since they can cost upwards of $80 to replace each. Also its good practice to always unhook the battery before undoing any electrical connections. I have seen computers be blown from unhooking coils with the battery attached because there was just enough juice to jump pins in the moment it was being pulled away and that was a near thousand dollar mess up.
You're a good teacher! Thanks for making this!! Super easy to follow and understand. I've seen other videos doing the same exact job and I learned nothing 🤣 just goes to show how compassion and kindness make a huge difference when it comes to learning a new skill
Always disconnect your negative cable off the battery before changing spark plugs, on the safe side always blow out the spark plug gap before taking the spark plugs out, that way no dirt or anything else could fall into the engine. But get video, great job on not over tightening the plugs.
Just had my daughters 2015 forte scanned and had some misfires. This video is very informative. Looks easy enough. The Kia dealership charges $130 just for computer diagnostics. Didn’t do that though just had my local advanced auto parts store scan for free. This will save me lots for $$$. Thanks 😃
I bought a used 2017 Forte with 57k miles manual 6 sp, car smelled and looked new on the inside and is just as clean under the hood. Thnx for the vid. Ive changed a few different vehicles in my day but first time on a kia so thnx pretty straightforward !
This video was absolutely amazing, very direct and easy to go through step-by-step. Managed to change all four of mine in less than 20 minutes once I had all the tools ready. Thank you so much for doing this!
Very well done video. I've replaced spark plugs, but it's been awhile, and on much older vehicles (when times were simpler lol). One of the best videos I've seen regarding working on a vehicle. I'm about to do this on my daughter's car, and wanted to make sure I didn't do anything wrong. 🙂
saved me $345 from jiffy lube, who i trust with nothing more than a simple oil change. although i barely trust them w that bc even tho they always use the same oil for my car, the price has gone up by $5-10 each of the three times I've gone in the past 6 months for an oil change. i've done oil changes myself and everything has always gone smoothly, i've just been slacking doing it on my own bc i live at my job. time to get back to doing it tho :)
Outstanding video, great camera work too. Idk how many of this sort of video people struggle to get good close ups and to focus on the right points. Great job, very helpful!
You saved me a lot of money & time with this great tutorial!! Thank you so much for taking the time to explain & show everything, and creating a list in the description of the tools needed.
Thank you At dealer now Spark Plugs job quoted $275.40 DAMN !!!!!!!!! Thank you x 3000 for your video. I think I can do it myself. I was so worried about gap setting but no gap is awesome. Amen Lol Take care.
I work in IT where i take stuff out of severs, etc. But i was like if my husband cant figure this out with how simple this is on my car then i can definitely do this lol this is like working with networking equipment to me lol
Hey Jamie, I am looking to enter the IT field myself. I am finishing up a bachelor's in Information technology. Is there any place I can message you, just to ask a few questions on how you got in the field and if you think I'm heading in the right direction? Thanks in advance!
Very good video. You made sure that when you took those clips out there's enough light to see what tab are we pulling. I do a lot of work on my car and my daughter's by watching videos and it has helped me save lot of money. This was super helpful. Gking to do today on my daughter's kia forte. Never changed spark plugs in that. Subscribing to your channel. Thabk you. I'm a big fan of systematic details even the smallest one which lot of you ti e videos fail to show because of poor camera angle or dark shadow on those tiny places or things like these.
Great Video, you made my day! please do ignore the bad comment! All you need is to change one person life and that's how you change the world! Thanks for the steps by steps tutorial!
I washed your videos a couple times to make sure I was doing the correct thing. I changed my daughter's sweat plugs in her car You have to hold it. Do you have a video on changing fuel injectors that's my next? Task
I would find which cylinder was missing and then swap the coils to see if that is the issue. I have a video linked here to see how to find the misfire m.ua-cam.com/video/Yd-ydEM1gPI/v-deo.html
Did you reuse your spark plug boots or is it recommended to change those as well? I’m changing my plugs for the first time and not sure if the boots need to be changed too! Thank you
I've been told there is a chance they dropped the sparkplug in shipment and you should verify the gap. Is it more important the sparkplug is a manufacturer spec or to the vehicles spec?
That could fix the problem but I have another video that will show you how to fix the missile in your car here is the link m.ua-cam.com/video/Yd-ydEM1gPI/v-deo.html
I followed your video to change all 4 spark plugs and my 4th ignition coil because my check engine light was on but it’s still on and I got the same code P0304. Any advice?
The only thing I would check is if it is a pending code then after driving the car for a bit and turning it off then on again should clear that code. The only thing to check would be power to the ignition coil and seeing if there’s 12v there. And making sure that the coils all the way seated and that the fuel injector is working as well
I just changed my spark plugs successfully but two of the clips/tabs snapped off “the brittle plastic”… will this affect the functioning of the my car/new spark plugs?
They should be just fine as long as the connectors are in all the way and if you are worried about the connector coming apart you can use a zip tie to hold it all together.
This vehicle had about 110k on it. It’s always good to replace at the recommended interval as the spark plugs can put a lot more on the ignition coils as they wear out.
You need to Torque them to spec. This is your compression chamber and leaks are very bad and will cause issues. Do it right once and not have to do it again. OH and NEVER use an Impact driver. Its way too much for torque. Hand tools are perfect. You dont need anything more.
The one that tells you to follow instructions to do everything the right way. But doesnt torque the plugs to specs. Smh. If it wasnt necessary for you thats totally fine. Its preference I understand. But atleast let the world your viewers know that it is an option if they would like to torque to specs aswell. They decide.

You technically dont have to unplug the terminals, just the battery. Makes installing the spark plugs simpler.
I thought you’re supposed to lightly lube the spark plugs before putting them back in?
You NEED a torque wrench to properly install spark plugs!
Thanks for the tutorial! Add me to the list of people that you helped save $200-300

Have you carbon cleaned the valves? If not can you make a video?

It is okay to reuse the boots! If you do replace them they are $100 each that’s why I reuse them

How many miles where on this car ? Just wondering how close it actually gets to the recommended interval of 105k

Did you find out what it is
Great video. Very wholesome lol
Just curious, what engine code did you get that went away after you changed the spark plugs? And thank you for the video, very helpful :)
The code that came up was a P300 that showed up and then went away saying a random misfire detected
