WM2K is the better one imo. More fluid gameplay, I like the way career mode is structured, a decent roster, overall well balanced. No Mercy is bugged and unfinished, and suffers from framerate lag a majority of the time. If you've ever had a 4 player match with the camera zoomed far out and weapons scattered everywhere you'll know what I mean.
I was so stoked about AEW Fight Forever, but it's pretty lame. It's fun for a few days but once the nostalgia wears off it's pretty mediocre. Nowhere near as good as the N64 wrestling games
WWF No Mercy and WCW/NWO Revenge were the pinnacle of wrestling games. Not complicated, and straight forward. Everything you could want in a game, was all there. We were blessed back in the day.
Facts. It was hilarious. You could rename players. I remember a guy called Brickhouse. Total weirdo guy renamed him to my roommates name. We’d play the royal rumble version and pass the controller.
Wrestlemania 2000 was by far my favorite as kid. I created my own version of Blade the vampire and Neo. My friends thought it was awesome. We had a blast playing that one.
I started the series with WCW vs. the World, which I got with my PlayStation as a kid, and then moved on to WCW vs. nWo: World Tour when it came out on the N64 later that year. WCW vs. the World was such an awesome game with a legendary roster of wrestlers (even though their names were changed). P.S. It's a real shame we never got WWF Backlash on the N64...Hell-in-a-Cell and 6-man tag matches would've been sweet.
Those WCW vs. NWO games on the N64 were the bomb. I was 19 when the first one came out & in my first apartment with my good friend as my roommate. Once a month we’d have a guys night where we’d have 3-4 other buddies over & play this, Madden, and NBA live, and kill an entire Saturday night. Oh the memories…

Aew just released their game, though it's lacking in content, I love the gameplay, and it definitely scratches that itch for me again. I've already put in over 100hrs In a month on it. Great video
Why does no one ever mention the fact that No Mercy runs at HALF the speed with more than 2 characters on screen? On original N64 hardware of course. That killed No Mercy for me. To this day, Revenge is still my favorite wrestler
Yes, Revenge was great but it lacked depth. People kill me they will say "Revenge is the best wrestling game ever" but then turn around and say they are disappointed with Fight Forever. Fight Forever has the same problems Revenge had lack of game modes and match types. I'm not saying you of them tho. I've just been on threads where people did that.
Tag team ladder matches were unplayable to me, even with the spirit meters turned off which would help save some frames. It was like the game was running in slow motion. I guess technically it was.
2:37 i LOVE WCW vs the World. it’s so raw and primitive, but the feel is later games is there in its genesis and the soundtrack is KILLER Revenge will always be my favorite tho
IMP I think Wrestlemania 2000 is the best, reason being is No Mercy nerfed the game, in wm2000 you can pull off powerful moves just my pressing weak grapple A and B, in no mercy they got rid of that, also ground submissions like Ultimate punching is now if your attitude meter is on Special, the gameplay is fun in No Mercy but they slowed the pacing down. In WM2000 you could literally beat someone in 40 seconds. Another reason why I prefer WM2000 over No Mercy is simply because of the time period. My favourite wrestlers are Undertaker and Kane, and in WM2000, the atmosphere was 1997/1999 they had the whole ministry thing’s going on, Kane had his debut attire, the corporation ministry was there, this era was pretty much my favourite era of wrestling which is why I prefer WM2000 over no Mercy and previous AKI games. Not really a huge fan on American Badass Undertaker, 2000/2001 era was alright, the Hardy’s/Dudley’s and all that was good but prime time wrestling for me was 1997-1999
Totally agree! I religiously watched WWF from the summer of '95 to the spring of '99 so I prefer the roster of WM 2000. I didn't watch WCW but still bought World Tour and Revenge and had a great time with both. I'm also a huge Undertaker fan and the American Badass was a total turn off. With Nash, Hall and Hart at WCW, HBK not performing due to his back and the death of Owen I lost interest in WWF. WCW had already started it's downhill trend so I quit watching wrestling. Started watching again in '06 and stopped in '08, haven't watched anything since then.
Also WM 2000 have full entrance, while No Mercy is only at entrance ramp and then ends. Also story mode in WM is much better and interesting, while in No Mercy is boring, repetitive and for some reason Stevie Richards is in every main event storyline. I never understand why so many people think No Mercy is better than WM 2000.
I was WWF kid so I didn't watch WCW but that didn't matter when playing World Tour or Revenge. Those games were so much fun and multiplayer was a riot. When I finally did watch that era of WCW, I wasn't disappointed, great time to be a wrestling fan.
1. Wrestlemania 2000 2. Wrestlemania The Arcade game 3. WWF Warzone 4. WCW vs nWo Revenge 5. WWF Royal Rumble Those are my top wrestling games based on nostalgia, not necessarily on their quality.
I've got a soft spot for WM 2000 because of nostalgia and the roster. I stopped watching WWF in '99 so No Mercy's roster isn't what I'm familiar with for Attitude Era WWF.
I don't get why people prefer Revenge over the rest. It lacked depth and the character models are off. Even though textures are great and they move and look like their counterparts. They are too boxy. The player models were better depicted in World Tour. I feel VPW2 is best Aki game ever followed by No Mercy. Wrestlemania 2000 is close 3rd. Revenge had good gameplay and best roster out of all the North American games ever. I think that's why people like it the most
@@edwinafamefuna4383Revenge has way better in game action then all of them. They kicked out of finishers. Matches went 20 to 30 mins sometimes. If you have a cruiserweight match the action felt quicker and fast paced. Revenge was phenomenal but did lack a few things unfortunately. I believe if AKI would've made another WCW game after Revenge god knows. Maybe we'd be saying that would be the best game ever. They would've had music, tirantrons possibly, better customization and models plus more game modes. WWF bought the rights at the perfect time.
When I was young, having a Playstation, WCW VS THE WORLD was the best... until I visited a friend who owned a N64 and WCW WORLD TOUR. World Tour was so much fun to play; I didn't care if the roster was less impressive, the action on the N64 was way, way better 🍻🍻
2:02 a Yukes branded video game but played A LOT like the AKI games. Yukes always had that AKI Engine. This and 2:23 are the beginnings of the N64 AKI Dynasty.
Having gameplay with Owen was mandatory for me. I love his stint in Camp Cornette which is why I have him and Yoko going up against Shawn and Diesel, even though I don't think that ever happened. Dropping his song at the end seemed a fitting sendoff to one of the greats.
A fine video but it’s missing two games in AKI series that were available in Japan. Virtual Pro Wrestling on the N64 had a lot bigger roster than world tour but are almost the same game. Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 for the N64 featured the WM2000 gameplay and features, including the running attack grapple. To me VPW2 for the N64 is top or 2 games in the series. I have a rom of it that translates the menus if you’re interested. As a fan of All Japan 90s wrestling the game is a dream. Overall great video!

Its a shame that now that we're in the golden age of retro gaming that no one has tried to do a throwback wrestling game in the style of the old Aki/THQ titles. Just take the gameplay of these classic games, bump up the character model fidelity, give it silky smooth modern animation, and provide a comprehensive creat-a-wrestler feature for recreating your favorite legends. Send it I would think that it would find quite an audience. Ive tried many of the WWE offerings over the years, but the only ones that held my attention as well as the old Aki games was Wrestlemania XIX on the Gamecube and WWE '13 which i played on Xbox
I always heard these were better games but never had or played any of them. I had Warzone and Attitude on N64. Not that great looking back but man me and my friends played those so much the day of the PPV waiting for it to come on. Good times.
I also had War Zone on the N64 but my friends told me about "these cartoon looking WCW games that were amazing". We were WWF guys but we played World Tour and Revenge and had a blast. When WM2000 was announced we couldn't wait to play it, good times.
Even though I acknowledge No Mercy is the superior game, I still have a soft spot for both Revenge (for its tightness/focus) & 2000 (for its lavish amount of customization). Someone in either STEM or Cognitive/Linguistics will eventually do a PhD on how simple-user-input-style-gaming is the apex of interactivity, which leads to enhanced creativity/spatial awareness/engagement/etc. The 5th Gen of consoles was truly a great time, because AAA-eqivalent multiplayer games [AKI wrestling, Tony Hawk 2, Goldeneye, Virtua Fighter, Smash Bros] could still be economically made & accepted largely on the terms of their gameplay, without the advent of DLC as a means to do post-launch fixes. The closest games I recall since then have been Dark Souls, Minecraft, Splatoon & PUBG, so it still happens, but back in '97 - '02 we were getting bangers ALL THE TIME
Same here, Revenge and WM 2000 are the games I like and play the most. I quit watching wrestling in late '99 so those rosters are the most nostalgic for me. I play No Mercy if I feel the need for some latter matches and back stage areas.
C'mon man, you didn't even mention the Def Jam and Kinnikuman games in closing. I get ignoring Kinnikuman (they didn't really feel like the AKI wrestling games, but every fan of No Mercy owes it to themselves to check out Vendetta and Fight for New York.
I think the modern WWE 2K games do well enough to bring back the pickup and play aspect of a wrestling game. The 2K games before 2K22 were too complicated and tried too hard to feel more realistic by having to do weird controller inputs. 2K22 and later streamline how strikes and grappling works to make them easy to understand. I think what I don't like about the game is the somewhat confusing carry mechanic. It seems simple but trying to do it is a struggle.
2K22 is the newest title I own but I haven't really put much time into it. I feel around 2K14 or 15 some of the game mechanics started to get too complicated and caused me to avoid using them.
@@cedarvalleygaming 2K22 is the only WWE 2K title I own as well and I have been hearing that it's more arcade compared to 2K19, so I gave it a shot and enjoyed my time on it, mainly because I like to press buttons to do things. I can Grapples easily, do Strikes and Kicks easily, and they give you prompts on using the Signatures and Finishers, which is what I needed. My only issue is trying to carry or pick up my opponents. I would have to go back and look up the controls for that again and I am not a huge fan of doing things in the right analog stick, when I wish I could just hold the shoulder buttons instead. That and there's also the Stun mechanic which I think players get stunned a little too long. I know I can minimize it, but it still feels too long.
World Tour was ok. Revenge was fun, and the reason I got an N64.I liked the smoth playability. Wrestlemania 2000 was the pinnacle of these games. It had the smooth playability of Revenge but you could totally create a wrestler. Plus it had more moves. Even though I am a WCW guy, this was more fun, and I was able to create many WCW wrestlers. The few downsides were no ability to edit women, and ladder matches slowed down. No Mercy was a theory. It had potential buy failed to deliver. The game was too slow, and I didn't enjoy it.
I was a WWF guy but I enjoyed World Tour and especially Revenge. I didn't know most of the roster but that game was so good it didn't matter. WM 2000 is my favorite of the four, it has my favorite roster and still plays well.

Best wrestling games EVER.
I own EVERY AKI N64 Game but World Tour and Wrestlemania 2000.
Wcw/nwo revenge was the absolute best
No mercy is goated
WCW/NWO world tour is the most influential wrestling game of all time every game after it copied it’s gameplay and grappling system
I've played all these games and smackdown, smackdown 2, and smackdown just bring it>all of em.
@@cedarvalleygaming ,
Exactly! And it felt like it already had WCW guys (Giant & Jericho). Being able to make 14 other wrestlers made it so cool.
There still hasn't been a better playing wrestling game than No Mercy
@9:48 earned you the sub, 😂
I had to include it, it's just so ridiculous you can buy a ho.
Cant understand why the 2k game cant juat give the old control scheme. They look so good, and have great features...but just not as fun to play.
Somehow, even wcw Revenge has a few incorrect finishing moves.
It’s a shame that AEW Fight Forever failed to be…. Much of anything at all.
I heard it was lacking features. I thought about checking it out but don't really have the time. Hopefully they will add updates and improve the game.
Your voice over reminds me of Mrsaintsgodzilla
2000 was my shit yo
I wish AKI would have done a WCW revenge sequel. I'm pretty sure WCW games were one of the main reasons WCW sucked.
😎👍
Warzone was horrible lol with the one table on the corner to slam on
Yeah, I had it on the N64 and it wasn't great.
@@cedarvalleygaming nwo vs the world, no mercy and smack down 1 and 2 we’re all the best to me
day of reckoning >
Steve Regal is the greatest British wrestler of all time. The Goat 🐐 🙌
Agreed, a fantastic heel and excellent wrestler! He was on my short list of wrestlers I had to feature.
Ah, when up and B did a suplex. Now its up down triangle square left up down. 😂 i wish wwe2k23 had an idiot mode.
How come the new wrestling games don't have bra and panties matches?
*THQ inc wrestling games
Aki developed them
Mediocre Games, yukes better
The best wrestling games are all on N64. If you didn't clip your n64 to play Japanese titles like Virtual pro64 and others you missed out.
No mercy was my fav
once games try to be too realistic, its not as fun. that last good wrestling game was here comes the pain. no mercy the best though.
It makes me sad we will NEVER get true successors to these games in the Way Def Jam Fight For New York Was.
That AKI Team is Gone FOREVER.
AEW Fight Forever STINKS. It is arcadey crap with two minute matches 🥲😢😥😓
