    Many people, in long-term relationships and even married couples met in the workplace... it happens

    • @TW-mg3ld
      @TW-mg3ld 6 років тому +53

      Kenny Houston but if you start sleeping with your supervisor and it doesn't work out it could mean big trouble for the supervisor. People sleep with people at work out of convience.

    • @kennethball7727
      @kennethball7727 6 років тому +30

      Valencia Whittington very true but I'm not talking about "sleeping with" Of course sex happens during a relationship ijs it's not uncommon for people who work together to fall in love together. People meet at church after spending 4-6 hrs a month together, at school after taking a 1hr a day class together so it only makes sense that people often date in the workplace after spending 40 hrs a week together

      You guys don't understand that corporate America does not allow people sleeping with SUBORDINATES. It's not just a "relationship in the workforce "

    • @je.suis.prisci

      curchel smoot That's true! And It's true! Usually corporate doesn't encourage dating. I worked a job that it must not be within the same department. Even family members can't work within the same department. As for this case, I need to hear all the facts, the circumstances are complex. It's different from the straight up sexual harassment and rape cases.

    I met him in 2001 and he was a verbally insensitive jerk. Took me by surprised. Felt very blown off and disrespected as a woman considering the conversation at hand. Lost all respect for him at Blacks In Technology 2011. I would understand one girl, but seriously, you are seeking woman at the work place? It was numerous women. He was a high risk.

      I know this is an old story, but Tavis Smiley really presented himself to be a conscious, intelligent, person. I am really loosing hope in men that do not see women as sexual objects. Again, I definitely know that tv personalities are just that tv personalities, despite what they represent on tv. Its definitely disappointing to meet a positive, conscious person, to then feel that that person is a jerk or is everyone entitled to have a bad day?

    I had a boss that propositioned me for sex for a higher paying position. I was really young and didn't know any better. We were going on a business trip and he asked me to sit next to him on the plane. He was my boss, so I sat next to him. I had no idea he was going to say the things he did, and tried to touch my legs. Instead of suing the hell outta that company, I walked off the job. That is sexual harassment in my opinion. Ok ! Tavis should have gotten his feel good from ladies away from the work place, but these were not minors !! Grown ass women holding up their skirts, now saying they felt intimidated !! Bullshit !!! I didn't throw my legs up although I was young, Divorced with 3 little children and needed as much money as I could get ! But I knew that no pig was going to crawl on top of me for a few dollars !! They are dead wrong for what they are doing to Tavis Smiley !!

    I think he should have known better. But I need to know whether the women made any claims that he intimated them into the situation or retaliated after the relationships ended. If he did either that is a big issue. Yet if he didn't than it is less an abuse of power and more an exercise of poor judgment.
    The biggest takeaway from this is that times have changed and it seems like it is no longer ok to have a relationship with someone you work with, especially if they are subordinate, unless you are willing to lose it all

    Hey, Tavis Smiley is a SINGLE MAN, who was only committed to his job. I'm willing to bet Charlie Rose said to PBS Network, what about Tavis Smiley, and they investigated him. So he don't replace Charlie Rose as top interviewer at network.

    • @PurveyorOfCuriosities
      @PurveyorOfCuriosities 6 років тому +2

      I agree with you, TMS999 to a point. I don't think Charlie Rose had anything to do with Tavis Smiley's investigation, but I do agree with the idea that PBS didn't want to give the Charlie Rose slot to a black man, not even one as accomplished as Mr. Smiley. PBS, like America, probably has an issue with a strong black man.

    • @tms9995
      @tms9995 6 років тому +2

      MizzMolly, point well taken. I still feel Charlie Rose said to a high-ranking PBS member "Well, what about Tavis" on his way out the door; they all knew what the other colleagues were doing to other employees there. Tavis alone working for PBS broke-down barriers never seen on that network as a black man. They, the network knew the only reason his ratings where so-so is the the time-slots his show was aired. Just imagine his ratings if he had Charlie Rose's slot, it would be high. These men accused lost a lot of money being ousted, including Tavis. I hope he had a nest-egg with money saved? He might never work again.

    • @tms9995
      @tms9995 6 років тому +2

      mizzmolly-I'm sorry, they do attract the same audience, somewhat. Reason I state that is because a son of a PBS Network Executive is how Tavis Smiley got discovered while doing Radio Talk shows. The Executive's son and his father were driving and the son put station where Tavis Smiley show was on. The Executive of PBS liked what he heard from the show and made contact, and got job offer. Tavis was able to interview stars not connected to government and politics on the network that bought diversity to PBS Network and Higher Ratings.

      Kenneth Edison ,
      What if you are one paycheck away from being evicted from your home, having your car repossessed, or even providing food for your family. You cannot even afford the time to leave that job and search for another one because it takes time to get another job. What if those are your circumstances and the owner of your company ask you to give him sex. Some people will give in because of fear of becoming homeless for example. If that happens that is exploitation even if the person consented. I do not know if that applies to any of these women. However, you cannot rule out the possibility that some of these women could have been in a vulnerable economic situation.
      This is not like a boss having relationships with subordinates- which is equally bad. This is the owner of the business having relationships with employees.

They did a poor job of gathering evidence and fact-checking the accusers information before they went public with the allegations. They will settle out of court after Tavis' attorneys counter-sue for wrongful termination, defamation of character, slander, bearing false witness, etc. PBS messed up and will pay big $$$; they should have known as a veteran news channel & institution. Hey Tasha , I saw this video about Tavis Smiley and I had to comment as I am very disappointed, but this too is apart of life. However more so disappointed bc he was the appointed speech at my Long Island University graduation year 2008 and I was honored to have him there due to his first radio broadcasting career happened at LIU. I’ve always known him to be honest up front and genuine but people have secret lives and when you have money and exposed to facets of choices; if you are weak you will fall. Marriage is very serious to me and I believe if you no longer desire the relationship it is selfish to cheat; best to separate and eventually move on. I knew this couple whom the wife didn’t give him none for over a year so he slept with the neighbor and had a daughter so now the wife has a biracial step daughter looking just like the husband so she couldn’t be denied. But I guess my friend realized she was wrong and later they got remarried. She had a mental health breakdown they knew each other since childhood so life takes it courses just how you handle the circumstances. ❤️🙏🏽💯

    This is a prime example of why it's a very bad idea to sleep with your SUBORDINATES. You open yourself up to situations like this. Workplace rules, as far as employee relationships are there for a reason. Tavis finds himself in a very grey area. A person like him, in a position of power, needs to be aware of how much INFLUENCE they have over subordinates' interactions with them, deliberate or not. There is such a thing as workplace retaliation and it's something many men and women are subjected to after a consensual workplace affair with a supervisor/superior goes sour. Tavis should be smart enough to know this. He certainly carries himself like he is.

    When I was in the Air Force there was a STRICT rule about this. It was called FRATERNIZATION. Officers were not allowed to Fraternize with Enlisted personnel. Also, it was highly frowned upon to be dating someone that was your subordinate. Regardless of Rank or Position. I’ve worked in Corporate America before. This concept isn’t driven as hard as in the Corporate workplace as it is in the military. I understand that there have been some instances where members of the Armed Forces have screwed this up as well but you just don’t hear of it as often or on as grand of a scale as we are hearing of these instances in Corporate America and in Entertainment.
