One fellow Canadian to another, I have to say I agree that our prices make it a tight budget for so many. We have a very well stocked pantry and freezers, and I love to cook everything from scratch. I make meals for our children/grandchildren and their families, we are very fortunate that we are able to help them. Keep up the great work!!
Oh my, one fellow Canadian to another, keep up the great work. I am in Atlantic Canada and I can preserve and dehydrate everything I can get my hands on. I help three other households others than our own, and am so fortunate that we are able to
i like the honesty in your video. it is challenging for my husband and i to make it on a similar weekly budget, i can’t imagine feeding two more people on the same budget! 😬 glad you recommended resources like food banks and church pantries, they are so helpful during times of need and we all go through thin budget times. no shame in getting help when you need it.
This was really well done and you selected smartly when it came to which vegetables and overall ingredients you bought to make your meals with, very wholesome and nutritious. If you're ever finding yourself doing another challenge like this again, a way to get some 'milk' for no extra cost at all would have been to make oat milk from your oats! It's very simple to do and you can use the pulsed oat pulp afterwards so zero waste, either for the oatmeal that you were already making each morning, or it could have gone into your pancake batter, makes it thicker and much more filling. So essentially an extra ingredient like I said, which would have allowed you to have milk for your pasta sauce, oatmeal, pancakes, anything at all just to make it a bit richer and give it a creamier flavour and consistency. Thanks 😊
You wouldn't have needed to sacrifice any of your oats to make it though, once you were done making the oat milk those same oats could have been repurposed and still used in your porridge/oatmeal/pancakes afterwards, so you wouldn't have needed to put some aside to do it or have less for your breakfasts, but you would have had milk as well, win win! :) 🌾🥛
I'm in saskatchewan, on a farm near a small town. Have a Giant tiger and a no frills so about the same prices as you. I'm also watching this 2 years after you made it, and the sale prices on these items have already climbed substantially. Haven't seen beans for 1.25 can for awhile
Hi just came across ur video, great job,, as a vegan I use lots of different kind of can beans in my dishes but never put the liquid in them always wash them first,,, this is the first video I see you put them with liquid , can I ask you why and if its healthy to do that ? oh, I almost forgot I live in Ontario and would like to see more of your videos. Thanks
Its just the cooking liquid that they were canned with so yes its healthy. I actually don't normally do this either but as I was trying to add more volume to the dish that's why I did.
I just watched 2 of your videos for the 1st time and I really enjoyed them. Do you have any Dollar Tree stores in Canada? If you do, they carry shelf stable milk in quart sized cartons for $1.25 each. They don't have to be refrigerated until after you've opened them and will last for 7 days after opening. They have 1%, 2%, whole milk, oat and almond milk available. I just bought some last week and they don't expire until September 2025.
@strawberrymoonhomestead3692 In the U.S. you can order online and get it shipped to you. I would check if they can do that where you live at, if the shipping price isn't too expensive.
You did a great job! So many similar videos on here ignore nutrition! I was glad to see that you emphasized nutritious ingredients. [PLEASE, though, get your knife sharpened. It seems dull and that can be dangerous.]
Thank you. I definately want to make these meals as nutritious as possible, I agree many channels neglect that in these challenges. Yes you're right I need to sharpen my knives way more often!

Yes I agree prices have gone up quite a bit. I am currently working another budget challenge to use updated prices.

Awesome! I believe there are some in Canada but not near me. I have Dollard. Great tip though.

Agree, and the dirt and mold on onions gets all over the cutting board but maybe that cooks out I dunno
Fairly certain I don't have mold on my onions...
@@strawberrymoonhomestead3692 oh good! Whew, may have just been dirt. Just wouldn’t want you to get sick! Keep up the great work and great videos! 👍❤️
Haven't you bought 2 cans of black beans? One for Shepard pie and one for a meal later in the week!!
