I love Spire for Trance, great tone. I demoed it, and because I had Omnisphere, it didn't quite have enough in its corner to trigger a buy. uhe-Diva is the best synth I don't own yet.
interesting technique with the FM, I'll have to try that out! For other users in the comments, one thing that took me years to figure out with spire was why my supersaws always sounded like there was some flanged/phasing affect in the higher frequencies. This is the ANA setting on each oscillator. Toggle these on and off and see which you prefer. For years I just thought Spire was using some garbage unison algorithm. Disabling ANA fixes this :)

How do you make those trance leads/plucks like in Aurosonic tracks? Is it mostly in the arrangement?

The FM is used to add extra details to help create a unique sound as well as extra attack for the lead. 👍🏻
Spire or Sylenth1 for Trance production?
Both, which every one you have or are more familiar with, just use it. A lot of tracks use either. The end result will be authentic to trance.
