I’m glad to hear others do their walk about in the early morning while still in PJs as well! While working in my garden I keep telling myself that I should go inside and change for the day. Sometimes I stop and go in to change because I know my limitations and other times I work too long and can barely walk in the house. Such is my life with Fibromyalgia 🤨. Can’t give up gardening. As long as there’s coffee in the morning, I can still work on my garden. Linda you are an inspiration to ALL garden lovers.
I do a morning walkabout with coffee and pruners and I am frequently still in my pjs in the backyard.😎 As for privet - the bane of my existence - one does not prune it and leave it in Alabama...it will take over!
Linda, my brother is a mechanic and people are always driving up and wanting free advice about their automobile problems and want to stay and talk . He is trying to work and they know it. They don't mind being rude. You are doing the right thing by continuing to work.
I do a walk about 2 to 3 times a week and pull weeds and deadhead and make mental notes of what I want to rearrange in the fall. I feel my spring flowers have lasted longer this year due to cooler weather. I’m in zone 5 northern Indiana. Love seeing your walk abouts and working in your garden! Thanks for sharing!! Stewart does a fantastic job filming you! ❤️
My personal routine is Velcro/stake anything in the raised vegetable beds, pull weeds, look for insect damage. In ornamental beds, I walk slowly by, looking for weeds/saplings, insect damage, wildlife, deadhead, make mental note of anything needing pruning/shearing, and water anything that needs TLC.
I LOVE Garden Gate magazine! When I first moved into a house with a yard I subscribed and learned how to make a moon garden and several other projects. I keep all my past issues to inspire new ideas even after years of gardening now.
It made my grand daughter's laugh. We watch LV t.v. while playing our games. I think we were playing Wahoo. They enjoy watching and learning more about gardening.
I got my Garden Gate magazine yesterday. When I came to your article I was like I know her!!! Like seeing an old friend. Enjoyed the magazine and your article....
I can’t wait till I get mine! I have subscribed to 5 garden magazines and Horticulture has arrived so far.! Our library has removed all magazines and the reading area so decided to get them myself.
My husband and I have a landscape business with one employee who handles the mowing/trimming, etc, but he and I do the bed work, shrub trimming, mulch, and pine straw. I am also the gardener of our personal gardens. This video reminded me of what I do both in customers’ beds and my beds. It truly takes knowledge of plants to know what to pull, how to tidy up, prune, etc. It was fun watching these even though it reminded me of work (though it’s always a pleasure listening to your process and learning more from you). I have a few questions and thoughts. 1. Time stamp 7:24. What’s the green plant growing between your crepe myrtle? 2. Your crepe myrtles. Do you grow them out like that with multiple trunks? I’ve never seen one in a shrubby form like that. 3. You mentioned something eating a plant in the mint family? I just started spraying kaolin clay and water on my eggplants and zinnias because I think flea beetles are nibbling at them. 4. I’m not a fan of chamomile tea either. It reminds me of what dirty dishwater would taste like. 😂 5. What annoys me is when I don’t have the tool I need. Often I have snips but need the loppers. I try ferociously with the snips and finally give in and locate the loppers. I I also despise holly and pecan tree saplings. They are so difficult to remove.
Love love love this magazine. I just got mine the other day and love dreaming..... I talk to people but keep on moving on. Time is so precious, make the most of it.
My husband is always looking for me out in the yard. When he used to asked what I was doing I would say “Just putzing”. Now I say I’m doing my daily Walkabout. It sounds like I’m really doing something now 😉
Ha! I love that you mentioned people wanting to stop by and talk! I live in Kansas City and was driving through Oklahoma City this weekend and I totally stopped by!!!! It was really awesome to see the front in person-and I really enjoyed the whole neighborhood! I filled my idea bucket and now I’m getting to work on my own property! We love you Linda! 🌺🙌💗

I was thumbing through my new Garden Gate yesterday and when I came to your page I said to my husband "oh look, it's Linda." He said, "that's your good friend, right?" He thinks I know you personally. 😉👍
Your videos have made a dreamer out of me. I keep thinking of how my garden can look. I have been waking around the garden trying to visualize cutting down branches to being out the negative space ... I think the neighbors must think me crazy staring at a tree for ages. 🤣. But love you garden and videos, it brings me a lot of joy and peace.
Mosquitos irritate me (I'm forever forgetting to apply repellent and have to go back for it). lol I've been out making the rounds in my garden this morning (feels like a sauna out today) planning three new garden beds and shopping my garden for a lot of the plants. I'm rooting cuttings from my fringe tree to add in other areas and gifts for gardening friends and family, the north side of my house is my garden nursery for propagation, cooler and shadier for such things, and generally more moist. I'm going to try that with the privets in my garden. Enjoy your day everyone!
Linda you have so much patience and commitment to your beautiful garden. Now that finally we got some nice weather, I also make the rounds very early in the morning . Nothing beats the strong smell of flowers at this time of the year. This perks up my energy for the rest of the day. 😊
Relate to so much on your walk about today, mulch stuck in my clippers, pulling out a ton of walnut tree sprouts, clipping and weeding etc. Enjoy watching you! Thank you!
Thanks for taking us around your beautiful garden. I get so much inspiration from other gardeners. I perform my weeding and pruning in the mornings too, its very calming. I get excited seeing the changes in my garden everyday.

Good morning! I do a walkabout every morning with my clippers and started this after watching you! I've learned to spread out larger tasks so my back doesn't hurt. One thing that gets to me is weeds! I pull them up and they're back again too fast! I will add more landscapers mix to keep them from coming back so fast. The heavy rains here (Richardson, TX) washed away a lot of it which irritates me too. Please keep the fashion epilogs coming!
I really need to put this advice into practice! I have so many weeds to pull because I don’t do every day or every other day! Need to stay on top of it for sure!! Thanks for all your tips and tricks of the garden!! Oh and thank you Stewart for being our special camera guy!! 🌻💐
Years ago I read a piece written by a gardener that I found inspirational. She said for the many years she had been a gardener, she was very focused on the weeds that she couldn't keep up with. She was always frustrated. Then, one year, she had surgery that forced her to stay indoors for a period of time, and precluded her from doing any garden chores. She said viewing her gardens from indoors, it was like she was actually SEEING them for the first time, and appreciating how beautiful they truly had become. From inside, at a distance, she couldn't see the weeds, only her beautiful flowers and shrubs! Thereafter, she promised to focus on what was beautiful in her garden. Yes, she still dealt with the weeds, but she didn't allow them to blind her to what was beautiful!
I'm on a corner lot with a large front yard garden, so I have people coming by wanting to chat pretty often. Sometimes I keep working on small things while talking, but often I'll take a small break at that time. I'm bad at taking breaks, so it helps.
When someone approaches me while I'm on a project, I start the conversation with that exact explaination. "I'm on task right now, but I'll try to multitask, if you'd like a short visit."
What!? Stuart isn’t your husband!? 😳 I have been under the impression he was all this time! Glad to clear that up. Would love to actually meet him, and your husband, however I know that they may not feel the same. 😉 Thanks for the daily walk about Linda!!
I was so excited to receive my metal planter last night. I purchased it in black to coordinate with the other finishes on my patio. It's a sturdy piece and won't blow over easily. Now, the biggest decision is what to put in it! Love your channel!
Great video. I agree, I walk around my gardens every day. I don't always "do" anything out there. But I make notes on what needs to be done. Also, I walk around every day so that I don't miss anything blooming. I garden in NW Iowa zone 4.
Usually every morning I go out into my flower Gardens and look at everything and sometimes take pics. I water when needed. The thing that bothers me the most is Poison ivy, oak, and Sumac growing in my flower beds. I'm highly allergic to all of them. I don't know how to get rid of it without killing my other plants and I sure don't/Can't touch it. I always wear gloves any time in my gardens .. Your gardens are BEAUTIFUL 🌸🌸 Thank You for sharing 💕💕💕
Great advice Linda! I will start this daily walk-about. It sure sounds easier keeping up with the weeding and pruning on a daily basis instead of feeling so overwhelmed.
The most irritating thing I encounter in my garden is a kink in the water hose. I stretch it precariously through plantings only to discover it won’t spray grrrrr 🤬
Early in the morning is when I tackle front street gardening! I find it calm and peaceful at that time, and can get things done in half the time. Then its off to the back yard!
I love that you use scissors or scissor type clippers. I have several pair that I buy at the dollar store and they work so much better than heavier clippers. Easier on my hands and very efficient in their cutting ability. The length of the blades is very helpful as well. Enjoyed walkabout with you!
I would be happy to watch a pro like you doing your thing in the garden while chatting with me. I know I would be learning a lot just by watching (as we do on your channel!) - Christine in Toronto
Great walkabout! I love how you trained those privets and let them grow where they were planted! Thank you for sharing such detail and great advice. My lantana plants have spread to fill a front bed. They are really pretty and easy to grow. Last but not least, I love your boots! Too funny about Stewart possibly being your husband and not getting any credit! We all love Stewart! He’s a fabulous camera man and companion and gladly takes the blame for everything! Have a blessed day you two! 😁
I love joining you for your weekly walkabout…..always learn so many practical tips. I’ve started to do daily walkabouts in my garden this season and it has made a big difference. Everything is more manageable and I can spot issues with pests and weeds before they become overwhelming.
Hi.I just got my Garden Gate too.You know first I saw your garden in Garden Gate couple years ago .And I was thinking what a beautiful front garden you have. And than I found you on UA-cam.Now I’m happy to follow you and learn new things in gardening.Thank you.
I always learn something new when you show your routine tasks. And I enjoy your style epilogue. Thanks for enabling me to not feel embarrassed about shopping at thrift stores.
Oh my! I am always proud to say I found something so stylish at such a bargain! Makes a smart, no less fashionable, and we spend money on those things that are really important!
Oh ha ha! I just assumed Stewart is your husband! He does do a good job BTW, I don't get motion sick when he's videoing. I too have neighbors ask me questions when I'm out in the front yard gardening. I mostly keep on working and chat at the same time. Sometimes I get complements that just make my day like a couple days ago an older gentleman was walking by and asked me what some of my plants are. Then he thanked me for bringing some art to the neighborhood. Which is how I think of my garden. Put a big smile on my face.
I am so glad for this video. My house is located on a corner lot that is in area where there is serious daily walkers, joggers, bikers, dog walker etc. I can barely get my mail without having to see someone. This summer I decided to start mowing my own yard and at times I get caught in lengthy conversations with passerby's. I want to get my work done like you do Linda so I now mow my lawn in the morning when most people are heading for work. I don't have any flowers or plants in my front yard because there is far too many interruptions. I'm sensitive with my own feeling so I think others feel the same as I do. Personally I would not be offended if you could not talk if I was passing by your own. Your garden is your career so you have to treat it as such. Most peoples garden is their hobby or therapy where others don't think much into stopping them for a short/long chat. One day I pray God will show me how I can have and maintain my dream front corner lot garden in privacy where I don't feel like I will offend the sweet passerbys that really mean well.
Great video. I will keep you company ANYTIME. I Love, LOVE those gardenias!!! LOVE your top and earrings are amazing!! Went in to Garden Gate and saw you online.... Very nice! Saw Kristin, too. And, as far as annoyances.. that is a big one with me about the mulch. I understand about getting things done and people stop to talk. I go out front VERY early to avoid just that when I have things I really want to get done. Thanks again for a great video. love, hugs, prayers.
It happens to me as well with people wanting to visit while working out in my garden. I do the same, talk while working and people don’t seam to mind. They just keep talking 🙃
Linda my QVC is here it has missing bolts and wrench. I looked and looked. I can have my hubs get some nuts and I don’t need the wrench. This is just FYI. Love ya. Can’t wait to get the rest of my order.
Hi Linda and Stewart. A bit off topic but my two galvanized plant stands from qvc arrived and I love the quality and the look so much I went online and ordered two more. I've seen similar stands though not as versatile with the 4 parts you can use independently like yours for a lot more money, so I am happy with them in every way. Thank you!
Just to let you know. My metal plant stand from the Vater Collection arrived yesterday. It is gorgeous and added just the touch I needed! I immediately went back to QVC and ordered another. 😄. I also ordered two of the egg shaped trellises. I am soooooo happy!
Definitely not rude to keep working and visiting. You would never finish if you didn't. Anyone that gets offended just needs to realize your time is precious.
I seen you show garden gate Magazine I just received my first issue I LOVE IT...I sit down after a long hard day, sit on my porch, sit in my 30 year old Adirondack my dad made me, sipping a cool drink and learning from that great magazine..
PS my back yard pots looks so cohesive now, I took a lesson from you and painted my plastic pots all the color Baked terra cotta, I left my concrete ones plain concrete...I agree it is more pleasing to the eye...Thank You for all the lessons in garden design...
Oh my goodness I’m not alone🙋🏽♀️ the mulch caught in my scissors/trimmers drives me nuts! With all of the rain I searched the hostas for slugs and applied Slug Bait. Those slick little monsters were on the tops of leaves and those I saw I grabbed with a paper towel to get rid of. The rest of my walk about was applying crushed pepper to pots to keep squirrels and chipmunks from digging up my flowers.
Very constructive I’m rite there with you when I water I’m pulling weeds our NW Fl area is getting so hot/humid but it could be worse! Great video learned a lot! Thanks so much!!
In the 2 months that I’ve discovered your channel, I have grown to love it! This walkabout was so relaxing and fun to see the garden really up close. I value seeing how you tend to things overgrown, in need of clipping or letting something go, etc. Looking forward to more walkabouts!! Thx, from WI. 😊🌱🌷🌿
Linda, I'm so glad to see that you sometimes let your volunteer trees grow. I just dug up a little redbud and planted it in a pot until I can decide where to put it. They grow amazingly fast! I too trim up a volunteer privet. I can't bear to pass up a free, fast-growing tree. We had to remove three huge Bradford pears because of disease and ugliness. Our landscape looks decimated. But I love a good challenge! I'm taking lots of before and after pics.
Oh my goodness!! I thought Stewart was your husband too! I’m so glad you cleared that up. I always thought it was so sweet of him to film you and let you have so much fun. I was kind of jealous that my husband wasn’t so involved in my addiction. 🤣
@@LindaVater I know several people, of both sexes, who are avid about fishing. Believe it or not, I have never gone fishing, and never had the desire to do so! I can understand people enjoying fishing because they love being in the great outdoors, and they enjoy the serenity. I prefer enjoying the outdoors and the serenity with a trowel in hand rather than a fishing rod! LOL
It would be fun to "meet" Stuart on camera. I have a 2nd home in a historic neighborhood like yours. Luckily for me my lot is not as deep since its a 2nd home but it's still a real fight to keep up with the yard. It's a popular walking street and sometimes it can be a bit frustrating to get anything done. I try to go out when nobody is out but i'm liking this multitasking idea!
I do not think it’s rude to work and visit simultaneously. Sometimes I love to visit but sometimes I escape to work another part of my yard. So do what you can… love your videos.
Love love ❤️ those earrings, top. The Born shoes are uber comfy !!! Love that brand. I was SO delighted to see what you did with your volunteer privet. That was a GREAT idea to shape it into a ball. Love that ! I too make the rounds in my garden & do exactly what you are doing- right up until it gets too hot. My work starts at daybreak so it leaves evenings for my walk throughs. My annoyance is kinks in my non kinking hoses. 😏 Drives me nuts !
Well, that was fun and satisfying and also inspirational. I’s been raining here in Georgia every day this week. Maybe over the weekend I’ll have a chance to get some of those weeds and small tree sprouts out. I agree wholeheartedly that when you see it 👀pull it!! ☘️
Good job X❤X I'm going to do some of those pots that self compost, with cotoneaster seedlings & leave at the gate, free for anyone passing, hopefully spread a bit of cheer.

Great advice. I used to do a walkabout every morning. It is so easy to weed for 10 minutes and look to see how everything is doing.
Yes!
I try to do a little at a time as well. Every morning when I let my dog out I grab my pruners and do a little deadheading or weed pulling in my pjs.

I thought the same, but I’m anew subscriber
LOL... I thought Stuart was her husband too! 😳
I was so excited to receive my metal planter last night. I purchased it in black to coordinate with the other finishes on my patio. It's a sturdy piece and won't blow over easily. Now, the biggest decision is what to put in it! Love your channel!
I have to admit they are really great looking!
Great video. I agree, I walk around my gardens every day. I don't always "do" anything out there. But I make notes on what needs to be done. Also, I walk around every day so that I don't miss anything blooming. I garden in NW Iowa zone 4.
That was so helpful Linda I'm going to go out to my garden and get something done☺
Your gardens are BEAUTIFUL 🌸🌸
Thank You for sharing 💕💕💕
Great advice Linda! I will start this daily walk-about. It sure sounds easier keeping up with the weeding and pruning on a daily basis instead of feeling so overwhelmed.
I love watching your videos and Garden Answer videos everyday! I learn something new and it is so relaxing.
It is beautiful I love it so beautiful 😍
I love that you use scissors or scissor type clippers. I have several pair that I buy at the dollar store and they work so much better than heavier clippers. Easier on my hands and very efficient in their cutting ability. The length of the blades is very helpful as well. Enjoyed walkabout with you!
Yes!
I love your garden tours rather your touching up the garden or just the tour you are amazing
He’s the best!
What irritates me, pulling weeds and 2 to 3 days later it is like I didn't do anything especially after it rained. Love your gardening channel.
Thank you!
I LOVE THIS!!!
It's so nice to get volunteers plants. Unfortunately, here in Colorado's dry climate, those are few and far between.
I HATE THAT VINE WEED!! I pull it DAILY 😡 So hard to get off of the clematis, climbing roses, fence, everything!
I love your earrings! 🖤
I enjoyed watching you as you talk and done your work. It is a good practice..
Linda my QVC is here it has missing bolts and wrench. I looked and looked. I can have my hubs get some nuts and I don’t need the wrench. This is just FYI. Love ya. Can’t wait to get the rest of my order.
I’m so sorry! Did you let them know?!
Thank you!
I love them too!!
I just trimmed my dianthus this morning!🌸
Just to let you know. My metal plant stand from the Vater Collection arrived yesterday. It is gorgeous and added just the touch I needed! I immediately went back to QVC and ordered another. 😄. I also ordered two of the egg shaped trellises. I am soooooo happy!
I’m so glad!
Definitely not rude to keep working and visiting. You would never finish if you didn't. Anyone that gets offended just needs to realize your time is precious.
I would keep working and talk at the same time, too! Not rude at all. Rude would be just ignoring them. :)
I hear you!!
Welcome!!
Sorry, Zone 7 (OKC)
In the long run you will be so happy that those Bradford pears are gone! Are used to have some, and have not missed them one bit!
QVC is out of natural baskets-would love to order more-love them!
Oh my goodness!! I thought Stewart was your husband too! I’m so glad you cleared that up. I always thought it was so sweet of him to film you and let you have so much fun. I was kind of jealous that my husband wasn’t so involved in my addiction. 🤣
Heavens no! Hubs is a fisherman not a gardener. He likes to take credit though😜
I love Garden Gate, too! Saw you in there! Said, hey, I know her! Lol!
👌👌👍
I do not think it’s rude to work and visit simultaneously. Sometimes I love to visit but sometimes I escape to work another part of my yard. So do what you can… love your videos.
The street you live on is beautiful.
Thank you for sharing your video. What a beautiful garden.
Hi linda i was wondering if you use garden soil or wood mulch in your garden beds which is best
I like the way you do the work while you talk. I’m visual. Love the videos.
Well, that was fun and satisfying and also inspirational. I’s been raining here in Georgia every day this week. Maybe over the weekend I’ll have a chance to get some of those weeds and small tree sprouts out. I agree wholeheartedly that when you see it 👀pull it!! ☘️
I wish someone would come up with a garden journal
I’m trying!
@@LindaVater
My gardenias smell beautiful as well!!! The smell is wonderful!!💞
Good job X❤X I'm going to do some of those pots that self compost, with cotoneaster seedlings & leave at the gate, free for anyone passing, hopefully spread a bit of cheer.
How kind!
