Remember too after winter there is a high probability of gravel or sand along the sides of the road and at Stop sign intersections. Luckily, in Black Hills the county road dept will sweep the roads, but many places don't care about motorcycle traction.

Thanks for the tips. In my 2 years of owning my bike, I also ride year round here in NM, so the bike is constantly being maintained. I do live in an area with foothills so it does snow on occasion so there are times I can’t get out of the driveway and the dirt road I live on for a couple weeks. But I’m blessed to be able to ride year round for the most part. Don’t get me wrong, I have to dress for it. Baselayers over baselayers and leather top to bottom. One of the hazards I encounter is the red cinder they throw down to melt snow. I call it riding thru marbles. And distracted drivers are a year round hazard for sure!

Have you ever considered a heated jacket liner? It was 30+ years of riding before I started using one....I much prefer it.

Remember. Stop signs and traffic lights do not stop vehicles!!

At a stop sign or light I keep it in gear and keep an eye on my mirrors for inattentive cagers (and motorcycles).

You can’t pay too much attention when riding. Always know your full surroundings and expect that people may not see you and ride accordingly. Even if loud pipes save lives, the person in the car with loud music on (as we all do with spring fever) won’t hear you and you still gotta keep your eyes peeled.

Commute every day if high for the day is over 35 and there is no snow or ice on the road
Many years ago I worked a few weeks a year in Chicago in the winter. NO THANKS! Yeah, you guys are nuts riding up there year round. That is some serious cold!

Loose gravel is bad on highways, especially at stops. I always keep it in first gear at stop lights, look behind me and both ways. Also, watch out for people mowing their yards, I got hit with some stones thrown out by the John Deer Riding Mower. I thought I had been shot and it put a big dent in my Fat Boy gas tank.

Check tire pressure and tread often. Keep headlights and mirrors clean, watch for texters, inattentive drivers. Most important year round is deer… bears spring summer and fall. Loud pipes save lives!

People running the yellow lights at intersections, or super dangerous. Just this morning in the cage, I seen two cars doing just that very thing, and one of em the light was RED.

If it wasn't for snow, ice and salt on the roads for 5+ months of winter up here, I'd ride year round, too. I have heated gear for the cold. As soon as the snow/ice and salt are gone, Reaper comes out to play! This year, I got her out on March 1st, and I'll go until the real snow comes. I usually squeeze and extra month or two out of each season. 😁😁😁
