I think this was a very faithful execution of the original piano piece, and I am thoroughly impressed by the extensive footwork. The liberties taken in tempo that SteveFallon1 seems to abhor actually fits right into the Romantic Era which this came from, as liberties with tempo were commonplace. It also lives up to the piece's original intent as a demonstration of the capabilities of an instrument and its player, and it worked even better for an instrument it was never intended for.
From a technical standpoint this is amazing and I'm truly impressed. I only wish the f-minor section from 1:15 - 1:24 translated better to organ. On the piano, a talented artist can use just the right amount of sustain to create this amazing swelling effect that sends chills down my spine, and as far as I know you can't duplicate that on an organ, which is disappointing. I love all keyboard instruments, and each one has its advantages.
Nonsense, sexual preference has nothing to do with musicianship or musical ability. Cameron Carpenter is a brilliant musician regardless of what one assumes his personal life to be. He worked hard to get there.
Must say, Cameron is my FAVORITE...even over Virgil Fox...and Reginald Forte whom I met back in late 70s, San Diego. I believe even GOD gets all teary eye'd. listening to every note as He proudly admits that Cameron is ONE Of HIS finest, most talented, gifted CREATION!
Cameron haters need to stop hating and start practicing. This is so much more lively and interesting than the flat 0 dynamic stuff all over youtube. This is brilliant. You can't REALLY play a song until you can twist it and mess with it and make it your bitch. Needless to say, Cameron put quite a twist on Chopin and other music. Maybe he is gay but honestly I could not give less of a shit. He's brilliant.
This is called Showmanship! It's something that classical performances once had but now sadly lack. The demeanor of a classical concert is now like attending worship. Sit perfectly still and act if absolutely nothing were happening on stage. A lot of people can play the organ, but Cameron Carpenter puts on a show. So does Carlo Curley.
No, he didn’t. He was composing music, not writing theater, so he focused on the music and not on the clothing of the performer. I think that he would have expected the same manners from his listeners.
@ybravura yeah, you're right, great performers don't need to put up a show just to satisfy the masses. We are here to appreciate the music, not the virtuosity or showmanship.
@WarriorOfWriters Too true. Not an organist myself but through bellringing I know TONS of gay choristers and organists (and a few vicars too....). The church has a serious wealth of good music which attracts musical people of whatever persuasion.
@182krishna Well, it's interesting, of course. For a change I can listen to classical music in modern interpretation:-). This performance is really breathtaking, very virtuosically done, but I still prefer this etude played on the piano which the genius of Chopin meant ,and in tuxedo instead of this modern sparking stuff:-) Sorry, otherwise it's just pop to me:-)
@SteveFallon1 I think it sounded pretty good. I like the sound better on a piano, though. But that doesn't mean this is not musically good. I still heard quite a bit of emotion in it. Just because it's not your exact, specific interpretation of the song doesn't mean it's not good.
@ the comment below me!! Who gives a Fuck. The guy played this with amazment!! Enjoy the accomplishment of it. When i see people do feats like this, it is awe inspiring to see someone play at such a level. How wonderful the good things people can do, when they try are enough.
Hes saying BUT fucking awesome because some ignorant people think calling someone gay is an insult. so he is probably trying to KEEP people from getting offended just trying to keep people from getting miss understood is all. its how most fights are caused.
@SteveFallon1 musically speaking, this instrument is just not very good for playing chopin etudes on it :-) it's simply made for different kind of music - yes, much simpler and more accessible from european classical tradition's point of view, but music nonetheless :-) implying that blues/jazz/rock/whatever else uses organ is somehow less of a music than Chopin is even more ignorant than thinking this was a good idea to play chopin on an electric organ :-)
so what is he then? a butcher? =P he plays the organ, so he's an organist. i mean, i don't like for example messiaen either, but that doesn't make him less organist. i don't like this piece being played on the organ either, but cameron carpenter's technique is outstanding..
@EccentricRichard I agree. CC can play, and play very well indeed. I dislike specifically how his musical style and playing has become wrapped up in his sexual preference. As for the electronic imitations, some sound fairly nice, if not close to the real deal itself. Hauptwerk would be a better example of this. But that still doesn't beat the thrill and feel of a masterfully crafted and played pipe organ. Perhaps CC's musical tastes and preferences will change as he gets older.
Cameron's pedalwork is practically superhuman. Absolutely awesome.
Is this guy a tap dancer? 🕺
The idea that he did the unimaginable on an organ was fantastic!!!
Who knew my favorite Chopin piece could get more epic?

.When musicians and artists seem crazy, they're just brilliant beyond belief.
no they are sometimes just crazy
Ce n'est absolument pas le cas ici@@EntelSidious_gamzeylmz
A breathtaking performance matching the genius of Chopin.
omg you must be prof. FIFA player + prof. level pianist to master this instrument)))
This piece sounds so well in an organ
He must have abs like a wash board, Look how he moves his legs!
His style is out of sight but what he adds to already legendary works is priceless.

The Liberace of the organ!
he changed it from a left hand study to an etude for two feet
I cant believe this; its superhuman.
Everything in this video is completely crazies including the sparkling shirt! Bravo!

Unreal!
Couldn't have picket a better church for this masterpiece. What a musician.

Physical fitness at the keyboard. Fantastic -- bravo

I completely agree.
WOW!! O_O THIS GUY ROCKS!!!

OMG, he uses the feet! I would have never thought possible.
fuck..how would this guy's footjoobs be?
I wonder if Chopin had such a sparkly t-shirt in mind when he composed this...

American version of Jean Guillou. Some one is having fun with those sounds, art is all about that. Good job!
wow, never seen anything like that pedaling on the organ. final chords played with the feet? all the left hand? epic!
questo si che é rock !
When you like tapdancing but you get a organ for Christmas instead

I really want to his performance by Fisk Organ in Auer Hall at Jacobs School of Music at Indiana. It must be great sound....!

@artieness I don't think anyone can call being gay an insult to a musician with people like Freddie Mercury having lived.
Можно аккорды?
I got some problems with roaches here. You seem to be able to provide good help.
THIS IS FUCKING INSANE
@jazzy6307 Unfortunately there's a little difference between a boogie woogie and a revolutionary etude.
....헐..?
If he was a double bass player, he would for sure record Bach's d minor Ciaconna.
Dunno if playing organ or doing riverdance lol
