I doubt Chopin would have been "ill" over this. He'd probably have thought it was the coolest thing he'd ever seen and wanted to write more stuff for it. People who WRITE this sort of music are a bit more freer in the mind than the people who try to reproduce it note for note. Besides, the piano rep has more than its share of pieces developed from the rep of other instruments. Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini anyone? :-) And nearly none of the past greats used anything like a modern piano.

Yes, he creates all his glitzy outfits, and even glues expensive Swarovski crystals (all by hand), himself. He's even designed a portable Organ so that he can tour with it, instead of having to use the organs in whatever churches or venues he happens
to be performing in. It's going to be 'A Glitzy Affair', to be sure! Cameron is a STAR!

This proves you're in a league of your own. That Chopin was one of the most the most sonically beautiful and technically impossible events I've whiteness in the 21st Century.
You, dear Camoran ……. are…….. all of these "possibilites" and many more………. coming forward in this world. Human and incarnate!
After your birthday take a rest. (two weeks+ on a cruse around the Greek Islands…
Sea! See the sea! Breathe in fresh air and do it with a will.)
Start thinking about your compositions; your works, your compositions, with choirs in Montreal, the orchestra in Chicago, video from outer space, and… now working with Light…. Disney……. and God knows what. The bottom line is, your spirit doesn't need to work so hard… all the time.
Soon……….. and with Grace I pray, your going to be playing around the whole world…. at the same time…. world-wide… Creating……… with Sound and Spirit!!!! I voting for your side.
You're updating the whole system. (You already know this. It's also recognized at the highest levels related to the Arts and various Academies round the world.)
However, you ( I intuit) need some rest! "Take care of your health." That was the first thing Fernando Germani said to me.
    Charles, A.T.O.M.

He brings to mind the wonderful show pianist Liberace. Cameron in my humble opinion is a truly great organist but has sadly fallen into the commercial trap of pleasing the masses. Lang Lang of the piano world springs to mind.
Now with both I feel if they bring more people to the world of organ or piano then this is a jolly good thing indeed. People like me who are purists should shut up and simply hope that those brought to the organ or piano may begin to learn and appreciate the truly great players of these king of instruments. Although my toes curl while listening to Cameron I have to bare in mind that many people who would not normally listen to such music are indeed enjoying his skills.
Pray hope they begin to understand why I do not think he is really that good. Learn more about what he is doing and please go to concerts of deeply respected performers.
Thank you Cameron for bringing this music to a wider audience.

Wow! Look at all of those comments that are negative. In all of my years of composing and in the music business I have seen and heard everthing from one side of the world to the other. Music is dynamic, she breathes and gives birth to creativity and to virtuosos! I makes no diffrence to who he is compared to in the past and present he is not to be compared but to be added to ranks of virtuosos. Take it for what his music making is. Compare him not to anyone else, he is what he is, a master!

This is technically very impressive, but... I just don't think the sound of an organ truly does a favor to Chopin's composition in this case. I'm really impressed at the dedication and work doing this must have implied, and I really clap my hands at that, but this composition looses its sentimental value because of the natural reverberation of the organ in my opinion... I'd rather hear it with clear cut sound and precise technique on a piano, because its supposed to be more... stabbing, I'd say. Still, impressive performance, and no denying this guy is a technical genius on an organ.

Chloë Hauchecorne I, too, think that this man is a genius. Yes I know well that Chopin wrote for the piano. But I think that even Chopin would be impressed with this interpretation. I'm familiar with the original Chopin score for this piece and I agree with you as to the more pronounced the piano version is but . . . but CC certainly does an impressive job with it. I've played the organ and piano for nearly fifty years. I wish I had one tenth of the talent that CC demonstrates.

  • @advisorC101

    @codeman2008
I totally agree with you, these pieces should not be played on the organ. What Cameron has done here is used them as the prime specimen for his 'show business', whilst its undeniably true he has a strong pedal point, but I don't appreciate the impression this brings on the public that "faster is better".
Its obvious he can play it perfectly on the organ but in no way does it mean its going to sound nearly as good as the original.
    Thanks for your honest input.

@ragtime1000 he's playing them (the last 4 chords) with his feet. if you watch his feet they are turned sideways. each foot can play 2 notes if they are close enough. one with the toe and one with the heel

Well, eat your judgemental heart out. I just visited Berlin, and he is already announced in full page ads for a recital on Sept. 24 at the Philharmonie Berlin, home of the Berliner Philharmoniker, playing works by JS Bach, Albeniz, Wagner, Liszt, Ives and himself. I can't see why anyone should dictate what he should or shouldn't play on the organ, it's either good music or it isn't, and so far consensus is in his favor. He is obviously a major virtuoso.

  • @bckm54

The pedals were always my favorite part of the organ...gives it this kick-ass sound no other instrument has. So it's no wonder why I love this video. I don't really care about the critics...they have a right to their opinion, but that's all it is. Meanwhile, every time I hear this, I get goosebumps. All those critics ever give anyone is heartburn.

POOR CAMERON, HE DOESN´T UNDERSTAND THE MONSTER HE IS CREATING, FROM IT WILL BE DIFFICULT TO ESCAPE FROM. THE YOUNG KIDS DON´T LIKE THIS MUSIC, AND THE OLD ONES LIKE ME, ARE TOO PURIST TO BE DIVERTED IN THIS WAY. AND HE IS SUCH A TALENTED ORGANIST, HE REMINDS ME OF ANTHNOY NEWMAN, WHO 30 YEARS AGO COULD PLAY CIRCLES AROUND ALL IMAGINATION, AND HE WAS EVENTUALLY REJECTED BY MUCH OF THE SAME WIZEDRY
WE SEE HERE WITH CAMERON. NO CHURCH WOULD WANT TO GIVE HIM AN ORGANIST JOB AS HE MIGHT FLIP OUT INTO ONE OF THESE FRENZIES ??? ANTHONY JUST DRIED UP AND WENT AWAY, AND IT WAS A LOSS IN THE SAME WAY YOU SEE HERE.
HIS PHYSICAL ABILITIES (OF CAMERON) ARE AMAZING BUT IT IS A ROCKET SHIP CREATED FOR THE 18TH CENTURY. WHAT WOULD LOUIS XIV DO WITH A ROCKET, MAKE A WEAPON OUT OF IT AND SEND IT TO RUSSIA? WELL I WISH HIM THE BEST OF LUCK.

having viewed the 2007 concert version of Cameron playing this about 10,000 times :) i don't care for this version
i know the organ is digital but it sounds very electronic in this recording
i don't know if Telarc's mics cut some of the reverb out or if Cameron set the organ up that way because he's definitely playing the pedals faster in this version so maybe the reverb had to be cut back to compensate for the speed his feet are moving
i wish Trinity would sell a DVD of the original from 07

Evening ladies, and I thought trumpet players could get a bit tetchy.... Fabulous to hear and see such virtuosity. At the end of the day, it is always the sound that matters, just looked this up 'cos I heard him on The Culture Show at the Royal Albert Hall - he played it slower, but 'cos of the sound of that mighty beast, it was even more impressive to my humble, brass addled ears.

hmmm, maybe it's not a stop change after all
maybe it just sounds different because it's a higher note and he's holding down (sustaining it) a bit longer with no other notes playing from the keyboard so we can more clearly hear the sound of the pedal stops being used
i guess it's difficult to hear the effects of a reed when notes are being played so rapidly

He's always seemed to me an extension of the ability and flamboyance of Liszt but the with popularity of a popular musician (tautology?), of course at the cost of some of the 'pureness' of his interpretations, and his liking of jazz etc, but he produced some good, interesting and technically demanding interpretations.
