Hi Egils, Sir i really like the way you explain things. Very easy to understand. Im learning a lot from you. Im also a ballroom/latin dance instructor in Brisbane, Australia it's refreshing to learn from a maestro! Thanks a million:)

Hello Mr Egils, I have resumed dance classes .... I follow yours and I try the steps from home .... Eh !!!!!!!!!! maybe having a ballerina like you !!!!!! it would be all easier !!!!! :-))))))
Isn't the footwork for him in the rockturn at step three ball heel? Because of the Little backward step and so the front foot has to be pulled from the heel not the inner edge of the ball... Or am I wrong? I'm dancing it like this
Thanks for interesting question. This is described in technique books and I prefer in some backward steps for Man version with releasing heel of front foot from the floor at end of step. Because on Man's more forward poise and control of the movement in some backward steps (also like 1st step of Back Corte; 3rd step of Reverse Turn) when heel of back foot is lowering at the end of step, at same time heel of front foot (not the toe) is released from the floor. ISTD technique book puts it like this: Whenever the Man steps back LF with a L side lead, the R heel will be released as RF commences to move back into the following step. At the commencement of all other back steps the toe of the front foot will be released. When the Lady steps back on either foot the front toe will be released.
TIP: when changing from Closed Hold to Promenade, especially when doing the Prog. Link - especially in dancesport where you do Bronze Tango, Newcomer Tango or any other level of Tango - when you turn your heads from Closed to PP, make it SNAP as you change positions - that is, The head turns should be as quick as possible but without straining your necks in the process. Why? Tango focuses on staccato as one of the main mandated characters of the dance - the staccato is the leader's aggression on the follower, focusing on the leader's domination in this only Latin-related dance in International Standard. Also - try to keep your inner fronts as close to each other as possible when changing to PP - do not let it separate too much or you will lose the frame in PP. Try to keep the inner fronts (that is, the inner sides) as close as possible in PP and you will be in your best tango shape.
If I want to teach the Rock Turn to couples, I always refer to the step diagram in Victor Sylvester's "Modern Ballroom Dancing" book, to help me remember this pattern....... The Rock Turn consists usually of 8 steps in 3 parts.... The 2 Walks - SS Man LR (Lady RL)- going usually straight curving slightly to the R, usually along the LOD. The Rocks - QQS - For the man, rock forward, replace, back (LRL) (Lady rock back, replace, forward RLR), with the man backing the LOD, actually backing diag. to center The Back Tango Close - QQS - For the man, back step on R, side step to L, close up with R, (Lady, forward step on L, side step to R, close up to L), usually ending with the male facing LOD or facing a little diag. to wall. But I think the Rock Turn is only actually 6 steps that are preceded by the famous Two Walks, which is my favorite precede to this tango figure. So with this, the Rock Turn is "rock, replace, movement forward or back, and....movement forward or back, side, close."
Hellow, this is Karen from Kenya. I really like and understand your videos. Thanks by the way. I would like to travel to Argentina to study Tango. Kindly advice me how and where at the lowest budget of course.
Thanks Caren for appreciating this video. Tango we teach is not Argentine Tango, but so called international Tango which is part of Dance Sport programm. Unfortunately I cannot give you advice about Argentine Tango and schools in Argentina.
OMG! What year is this video from?? Some women wear ripped jeans, while other dressed in the 80's. Tango dress should be nothing but very elegant and sexy!
Tango de base, donc s'adresse à des débutants. Ici les élèves sont visiblement tous des compétiteurs expérimentés. Pour qui il nous prend, le soit-disant prof? Pour des cruches? Allez, pouce rouge.
Wow this is how cultural appropriation dance tango. Really ? This is far far really far from tango. This Is disgusting. The music is pathetic. Is cliche. Is so far from Argentinean culture. Je ne jamais vu quelqu'un danger tango comme ça. C'est du cliché, horrible. Vraiment loin du culture argentin. MALISIMO!

Hello Egils,

Claude
Hi Claude, music is Tango de Manzana 🎶
I love your teaching style, but could you tell me what's the name of the background music?
+刘姝, music 🎶 Tango de Manzana by Kevin MacLeod
If I want to teach the Rock Turn to couples, I always refer to the step diagram in Victor Sylvester's "Modern Ballroom Dancing" book, to help me remember this pattern.......

The 2 Walks - SS Man LR (Lady RL)- going usually straight curving slightly to the R, usually along the LOD.
The Rocks - QQS - For the man, rock forward, replace, back (LRL) (Lady rock back, replace, forward RLR), with the man backing the LOD, actually backing diag. to center
The Back Tango Close - QQS - For the man, back step on R, side step to L, close up with R, (Lady, forward step on L, side step to R, close up to L), usually ending with the male facing LOD or facing a little diag. to wall.

I think the amount of turn in the Rock Turn is 3/8 or so between steps 4-5 of it. The turn is to the L.
Thanks for interesting details
