Wheel lift carries the weight rear of your axle. Sling transfers the weight of the load through the boom to the center of your trucks frame. Thus enabling better distribution of the load allowing for more weight to be towed.

weight, too damaged a rig or simple where and tear. the heavier the rig the faster the wheel lift pivot wears. so some guys use the sling.
