Trying to explain to the younger generations the rise of Michael jackson. You cant because there's no equivalent today. People get famous sure buy nothing like Michael. He literally OWNED music after thriller and the world. Even tribes in the Amazon knew him. It's unlikely anyone will ever be as famous as he was as the musical landscape is much more diluted and the internet easy access. So many artists, someone for everyone. But with Michael he was everyone. Whether you liked him or not no one can deny when he died he waz the most famous person on thr planet perhaps throughout history.

@@lanceflx63 I'm a little younger. The jackson 5 I barely remember in person but I was of age when thriller dropped and omg a person had never seen anything Ike him and his rise. There's superstars today sure, buy none on that level where the entire planet knew you and your music. There was a video ages ago of part of mjs entourage was on the Amazon River and had native guides. At the village they found out who he worked for and sang word for word thriller. A tribe mostly isolated but a radio knew how music. Thats power. And remember Rockwell ^somebody's watching me". Everyone skipped rhe song except Michael singing same line over and over. He could sing the phone book and it would have been a hit.

People forget that this came out when cripps and bloods were starting. These are 2 actual gangs who squashed beef and instead made money for being in the video.....and it was a Michael Jackson and Eddie Van Halen playing.
