This got a bit teary. Ramona got me a flight in a WWII Stearman biplane for my 70th birthday. Took my dad's WWII leather flight jacket up with me. Enjoy the narration-free, ASMR sound of the biplane.

My dad was a Wireless Air Gunner 415 Squadron RCAF. Survived 2 tours of combat. Only survivor of the original crew that left Canada. Contributor to Ryan's book The Longest Day. Never got to keep his flying jacket. Post war, Search and rescue and flights North to bring Doctors for Mercy Flights to northern communities.
Those were the real pilots. Thanks.

Happy Birthday Paul, i actually turn 52 tomorrow on the 17th. my Father was around 12 when the war ended then at 17 he lied about his age and served during Korea and finally had me when he was about 39. i have the greatest respect for that WWII generation and believe they ABSOLUTELY were the Greatest Generation.

I worked with the Hungarian air force, they flew Mi24 gunships for me for the movie “A Good Day to Die Hard” and they are very VERY proud of their WW2 service - you should contact them, they have a very good PR team , and they will invite you to come visit and fly with them. I highly recommend it Chato!

Happy fathers day Chato! My grandpa was a WW2 airplane mechanic! Your wife is fantastic to give you that kind of gift!
My uncle was in the RCAF later in W.W.II. He was a Flight Officer (bomb-aimer) stationed in England. He was married and had a couple of kids when he joined the RCAF.
I have to say you had the fighter pilot face the whole flight, your Dad would be proud.
My grandfather who was a B-25 bombardier & a pilot during WW2 also learned to fly on a Stearman as did many U.S. WW2 pilots.
My Dad was born in 1929. He signed up to volunteer for the U.S. Navy on his 16th birthday. Shortly thereafter, Hiroshima and Nagasaki happened. He also served during The Korean War. He was relatively safe during his entire service time in the Navy.

What an awesome way to honor that family heirloom. Thank you for sharing this story. I'm only 44. So my grandfathers fought in WW2. One as flight crew if a B24 Liberator bomber. The other as a marine. Guam, Samoa etc.

Happy Birthday and memories. My Dad was in the Navy, his buddy taught him to fly after the war and they flew around the country in their Piper Cubs. He took us for air shows and rides. I turn 69 later this week. Great video.

My great-uncle Grenville flew as a radio operator in a Halifax bomber. On the way home from a 1943 bombing run, their plane was jumped by a German night fighter. It crashed and exploded, with most of the crew still aboard, including Gren, who was 22. He had a fiancée, planned to come home to St. John NB, get ordained as an Anglican minister, get married and become a father.

What an amazing gift and tribute. My father was a pilot and he tried to get me to be one but I always told him I was a Profession Passenger. I always loved my flights with him. Might have had my walkman playing The Frantics during those flights. So glad you got to do this flight. Got me in the feels.
