I'm a Yankees Fan but Yadier Molina is probably the best catcher I've ever seen play, he was the mastermind behind the plate for the Cardinals.
Yeah. As a diehard Cards fan I feel the true main factor in our collapse was the lack of our anchor. The master of everything a catcher needs to be to dominate behind the plate. Famed cannon arm. Interview of Cardinals have even said how managers would ask Yadi for advice. He was in a way a player manager. He's also my childhood hero. If you ask me a legendary Catcher doesn't need to be a great hitter, they're so critical to the success of a defense that if you're gonna have a hole in the batting order the Catchers a great spot. Though he's not as bad as people let on.
Johnny bench was the same way, Molina played kinda like him
Yeah Him, Pudge and Buster Posey...
Ivan Rodriguez is the best I seen
Pudge Rodriguez?
i already miss Yadi in the mlb such a great time watching him throw out batters like it's the easiest thing ever in the world and i hope i can be just like Yadi when i grow up.
Me too! Last season was such a gift.
me too yadi got me into baseball and played almost all of my life except for this season
Same, I'm so grateful to be a cardinals fan born in 1997 getting to watch Yadi throughout my entire childhood into adulthood
I feel spoiled
Ozzie Smith is your favorite short stop’s favorite short stop.
Best ever at the position
We in Cincinnati didn't like Ozzie too much cuz he always got voted to start All Star Game over Larkin
That barehanded diving catch was unreal! I’ve NEVER!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
3 cards makes the list we have been blessed the last 30 years
Yadi was the ultimate running game eliminator. They wouldn't run on him if you look at the numbers his stolen base attempts on Yadi was miles below everyone else's.
Idk man Ozzie was pretty powerful
Yadier was a freaking eagle eye he could catch you sleeping on the bases and get you out in seconds without you even paying attention
Yadier Molina was the Best Catcher I ever saw!!! Legend
Never got to see him except here on youtube. I grew up in San Diego during the Benito Santiago era. 😁
Omar Vizquel and Roberto Alomar ( The Best Duo in the History) of the MLB
nope, two Tigers hold that distinction, and it's not subjective, they've got the numbers to back it up.
It’s too bad they didn’t get that much time together
Bro I'm a Giants fan, but growing up I always wore #12 on my jersey cuz Alomar was just that dude. The 92/93 team was insane
Are you talking about Whitaker and trammel? If so, I get it…but Alomar and Vizquel had some special range and I wouldn’t dismiss them…The kind of range that probably caused more errors
Ozzie and Yadi! The 2 best ever in their positions in my opinion, and they played for my team!
We St. Louis fans were privileged, to say the least!
Plus we had Pujols and Edmonds!
We saw great baseball!
My god some of those highlights were insane.
Ozzie would make 150 more plays than any other shortstop over the course of the season! Those were clean base hits with any other shortstop
I love Yadier Molina❤
I remember watcing every one of these players! Each one of these players was exceptional to watch!
All good picks. As a kid it was Jim Edmonds for me.
As a Cardinals fan who started watching in the early 2000s as a kid- Edmonds was the greatest defender until Yadi came up. But I still say Edmonds is the best outfielder I’ve ever personally witnessed.
Jim loved playing defense. Those back to home plate catches were routine
Jim Edmonds' read on the ball was spot on and instantaneous. Combine that with his baseball IQ and it was just unfair.
I've been so lucky to have been treated to watch Ozzie and Yadi live. Nolan Arenado will be on this list by the time he's done. He is a constant highlight reel.
I miss Yadi every day
I miss Yadi so much man, my childhood was watching the cardinals during the prime of so many of our recent legends like yadi, waino, pujols, carp, etc. I really hope he mentors Contreras in the coming season
I saw video of Ozzie Smith working out, throwing balls to first base without looking. It was the most amazing thing I ever saw on a baseball field.
Good to see Pokey get some recognition, but, nobody beats the Wizard defensively.
Nolan Arenado...
So thankful to have watched Ozzie and Yadi..
Ozzie smith is the greatest. And that’s because of the time. Of course more modern players are technically better. They train more from a young age. Are coached within an inch of their life. They’re fitter.
But Ozzie was doing things nobody had done. He pioneered the ‘next level’ of playing infield.
Most of the modern greats would have looked at Ozzie and gone “That’s what I want to be like”.
Kind of like Hendrix on guitar.
Brooks Robinson hands down the best of all time
That’s what I was thinking. A Red Sox fan, so saw him a lot. Was at a game wher he made two errors in one inning. Probably only time it ever happened and everyone was stunned. Rarer than a perfect game.
Watch the 70 World Series against the Reds. He demoralized the Reds, especially Bench.
Brooks was great!
Tigers players never get the respect due them.
Lou Whitacre and Alan Trammell hold the record for most DP's together all-time. Yet Lou is not in the HOF, and Tram had to be sponsored by Robin Yount, his contemporary, on the Veteran's Committee, to get in. Yount knew how good Tram really was.
Molina is my favorite catcher to watch, and I’m a cubs fan
Remember that time Ozzie bit the head off of that bat? Oh, wait... wrong, Ozzie, sorry.....
🦇🤣
I have to add Pudge Rodriguez and Alex Gordon to this list
It’s crazy to me that Yadi is probably most known for his pickoffs at first base, but he had 69 in his career (which I believe is the 2nd most ever by a catcher) and Pudge had 90.
Alex Gordon?????
@@llamapenNHLIn all fairness, Pudge had more people attempting against him versus Yadi because of the era of the speedster. Pudge didn't prevent too many from attempting to steal, Yadi did.
I forgot the stat i saw but im sure a channel has it on here, but when in the years that Yadi played up until 2018 or something, the Cardinals were the only team where the opponent didn't attempt 1200 steals, and in that time span the Cardinals had less than 800 attempts
@@Dr.Frankensteen Yea Pudge’s rise kind of coincides with stealing becoming less common. I know after his first few years in the league attempts on him were cut literally in half, but I’d be interested to see how that compared with other catchers and teams from that same time.
@llamapenNHL During Pudge Rodriguez times, there were more steal attempts than Y. Molina time. Even better stealing runners. From R. Henderson, V. Coleman, O. Nixon, K. Lofton, T. Rains, M. Grissom.
The avg stolen bases per season from 1988 to 2000 was around 1,500 vs 1,200 from 2002 to 2010. and 1,300 between 2011 to 2019. During Pudge Rodriguez time runners attempt more stealing than Yadi time.
I am biased to the max because I am from the STL . Yadi is the best ever
Aurelio Rodriguez, 3B, Tigers
When I played high school varsity baseball, nfl legend Dwight free freeney dad was my coach, n he use to Khalil Green cus my dives in practice.
Literally just now got it.
Omar Vizquel has to be on this list.
Bell, Buechele and Beltre. We were spoiled rotten in Texas.
It is wild the difference in media quality between the NFL and MLB
no outfielders? jim edmonds
Ozzie is the best defensive player ive ever seen, The Wizard of Oz was an appropriate nickname
Coming from the left field, i can only answer based on my experience as a former Expos fan. Tim wallach at 3rd base was very good, his defense kept in the league longer that he should. Great memory from that guy.
Son leyendas 🎉😂
Pudge arm though was unreal.
Yadier was awesome. I feel bad for Pudge Rodriguez that he got supplanted as the greatest defensive catcher in modern history so quickly.
Faltó el mejor; Omar Vizquel...
I love Cal Ripken, but I preferred him at 3rd. Mostly because when I was growing up his super shortstop years were behind him.
Yadi was amazing but Pudge is the standard. It’s close but Rodriguez was a weapon no matter who was on base or what base they were on. I never cared when fast guys walked. We had the best eliminator EVER. PERIOD!!!
Less people attempted to run on Yadi than Pudge. Not saying Pudge wasn't great because he absolutely was a top 2 catcher of all time, but in terms of stopping the run game Yadi is the standard. Pudge is the best all around catcher of all time though
@@Dr.Frankensteen and I’ll politely disagree. Watch his early stuff. He would commonly pickup guys at first and third. Saw it in a game once. After that NO ONE RAN ON PUDGE.
WATCH THE EARLY HIGHLIGHTS PLEASE.
@@glennvastine4118 I've seen Pudge's highlights and he without did help stop the running game in his time. I'm not going to dispute that. What I'm saying is he didn't stop it on the same level as Yadi. In terms of defense and stopping the run game, Yadi is my number 1 followed very closely by Pudge. It's not a slight against Pudge in the least so I mean no disrespect towards him. Pudge is still the GOAT catcher in my opinion.
@@Dr.Frankensteen we agree to disagree. I watched maybe 700-800 games of his. Yadi was definitely 1B……I’m sure people in Cincinnati would think Johnny Bench was the greatest catcher ever. That’s what makes it fun.
They were all magnificent. The game will never see their equal.
@@glennvastine4118 Fair enough. I did love Pudge though. That '06 World Series was basically the passing of the torch from Pudge to Yadi as the most dominant defensive catcher in the league
roberto alomar
I gotta go with Rey Ordonez. While injury cut his career short, his peak was unmatched. 100 + straight games at short stop without an error. A full season with only 4 errors. Could get to anything. He was amazing to watch. Truly the best fielder in my opinion.
Best defensive player I have ever seen is easily Andrelton Simmons. That guy was INSANE.
The Wizard was unreal!
Surprised no Omar Vizquel or Pudge
Love all of these. Andrelton Simmons needs a shout though.
Ozzie, with andrelton Simmons being the next evolution.
The pokey Reese pick! I love it
Yadier Molina is a first ballot hof best all around catcher
Pudge Rodriguez?
How in gods name are all of these people missing Omar Vizquel?
Ozzie Smith and Yadi are the Neil Peart's of their positions
Mark Grace Chicago Cubs 1st base, back in the days, was a black hole, everything going his way was disapearring in his glove.
How’s Omar visquel not on this list
"The Human Vacuum " Brooks Robinson
I remember Khalil Greene's mental health struggles at the end of his career. I feel so bad for the poor guy.
They say pitchers are the best fielders and have the best reflexes. Unfortunately they don’t set to participate in the defense much. Shohei Ohtani when he spiked the 100 mph return with his glove and caught it, for example.
Yadi and The Wizard are mythical!!
Best fielding shortstop: Rey Ordonez
Robbie alomar was solid on 2
Sadly, you overlooked Omar Vizquel…
Ozzie 🐐
Andruw Jones not mentioned, list is incomplete.
No mention of the best: Omar Vizquel???
Bro I'm so upset I forgot about Greene bro.
Never even heard of him before this
Man's was depressed and had anxiety and the pressure of MLB got to him. Who knows what could've been if he found a way to manage like Zach Greinke but he didn't and because of that he only lasted a few years in the league.
the khalil greene love!!!
Reynolds Oz was not a magician he was a WIZARD.
Some context for that Yadi "challenge". The play before Yadi went for a pick off at first and the guy slid back in safely. Then this arrogant nobody stands up and wags his finger at Yadi.
Pudge
Just think these shortstops were playing on turf. Miliseconds to react.
Andrelton Simmons
I was in the dug-out! That was awesome dude...
Pudge Rodriguez had best mechanics of any catcher I ever saw! And a better hitter than Yadi to boot!!!!!
Ozzie was great, but Omar Vizquel was the best that I’ve ever seen play.
Yadi is the greatest defensive catcher EVER period.
And with all due respect Billie Ripken your brother was great but he was still far from the wizard whom you seen okay as well
Pudge Rodriguez all the way
YO KHALIL GREENE!!! MY BOI!!!!!
Brooks
Recency bias. No Willie Mays
Greg Maddux?
Rey Ordonez
Cecil
Yadier Molina will NEVER be as good as Johnny Bench! Short memories provide sad thoughts. Bench, by far, is the best catcher ever...at least to date!
Cal Ripken is goated, how is that a surprise pick? Lol
OMAR VIZQUEL?
Buster posey
Omar vizq
B Phillips > Poke Reese
Facts 💯
Yeah. It’s Ozzie. Next question.
Fire whatever audio engineer you used for this video, christ.
Rey Ordonez ! you tube
For the algo
It’s Derek Jeter😉
joking yes?
Nomar Garciaparra
@@tobyhahn2960 You do remember that Boston gave him, a Yankee a standing ovation his last game at Fenway? That says something. 😂
I don't disagree with any of these, but I'm surprised no one said Andruw Jones.
Andruw and Andrelton are the two, for me
@@EaglesFan592 100%. Forgot about Simmons.
The best fielder I've ever seen live is Andrelton Simmons
Dustin Pedroia. Crazy range for a guy as short as him.
