Great video! I made this with just a few changes. I made the hanging strap a bit longer, and I put bias tape on the edges before I turned it. It’s still a bit bulky, but it’s finished. I also cut a circle of template plastic to put in the bottom, which makes getting all the scraps and threads out a bit easier

Thank you for the tutorial. I've made several of these. The first one was for my husband's car (made to match his interior) and he liked it so much, he requested another to match when he got a new car. I've also made them for my sewing area. But no matter how many I make, I still get confused and struggle with the pattern! Having a video to go by will be so helpful on the next one. 🩵

I loved when this came in the sew sampler box. I was a little intimidated but finally sat down and tackled the project. It wasn’t that difficult but it took patience to do it correctly.

Thanks for sharing. I made mine several years ago. I bound the raw edges of the circle and glad I did. I use mine for thread and small fabric trash on my cutting table. I’ve considered another but adding a vinyl on inside so threads slide out easier when emptying. 😊

  • @suehudson7777

I made this but with a few changes. I eliminated the little hang up tab. Instead I made an approximately 13" long tube x 3" wide (fold in half lengthwise and then fold edges in just like the little tube) and only topstitched one side. Then threaded my elastic through it. So the elastic was encased. I stitched the elastic at both ends to keep it in place and the fabric tube was gathered (but will stretch as needed). Place the elastic ends where the little hanging tab should have been. This gives me a bigger hanging loop and then when done will also be the piece that helps hold it flat. I used a contrasting fabric scrap and the same for the inside bottom of the basket.
I did zigzag the inside to prevent raveling and make it stronger. Serging would work as well once it is basted into place.
I do agree with another poster, wish I would have made the bottom a little stiffer.

Nice job! Love the fabric. I have made a few of these without the spring. I just quilted, with a cross hatch and it stands up nicely, although it doesn’t “pop” up when pressed down. Using the free arm on your machine certainly helps and if you make the circle a bit smaller, you don’t need to gather the fabric for it to fit. Easier way to section each quarter of the circle…fold in half away from yourself, crease edges unfold and mark, rotate a quarter turn and then repeat.

I have made two. The small and medium. The small is for scraps next to my second machine and the medium I use to store patterns. I rarely collapse them though. I did add the elastic and the loop because you never know how your needs change over the years. Thanks for sharing a “non Quilty” project.

I bought this pattern after seeing your video. Glad you had video to help with putting it together. Following your tips, mine went together without problems. I did do the gathering stitch on base at 1/8 inch instead of 1/4 inch so it would not show after sewing base on. Worked out well. Thanks.

I'm so glad you did this lol. I have 3 in 2 sizes and haven't made any. I didn't even look at the instructions yet. I was wondering why you would need safety pins at the beginning of this, makes sense. I was wondering what the elastic was for too lol. Awe, bummer...I like finished edges even when it's on the inside and not seen. Maybe I'll throw on some bias tape. So funny how it just takes watching someone else do something to get you motivated enough to try it yourself lol.

It looks great! I am not a fan of making fiddly things but if I made this, knowing what you did, I would probably do pretty much the same. I would take the time to switch thread to Glide, or a similar slippery thread, before gathering the circles. It’s cute!
