- The Rad Power Bikes RadRover 5 is an updated 5th generation full sized, high-step, fat tire electric bike from one of the originators in this category; Rad Power Bikes. Features comfortable 4" wide knobby tires with puncture protection and reflective sidewalls. It's stable and capable in soft terrain like mulch and sand if the tire air pressure is lowered. Features a curved top-tube, short sturdy stem, and mid-rise handlebar for approachability and comfort. Adjustable suspension fork offers preload adjust for heavy loads and lockout for smooth terrain. Upgraded headlight with outer "be seen" LED light-ring and focused "see the path" primary beam (80 lumens). The rear light offers solid mode, blinking mode, and bright mode when either brake lever is pulled. Riser mount keeps the rear light visible over the included plastic fender. Rubberized brake levers offer comfort and warmth over solid aluminum alloy levers. Integrated brake lever bell is cheerful and durable vs. an aftermarket mounted bell. Lots of great rack and bag accessories with extender cables to re-position the lights, new orange color options add a splash of fun. Solid one year comprehensive warranty, great price point at $1,499 with free shipping. Only available in one color and frame size, but the handlebar can be swiveled to lengthen or shorten reach. Standard 2 amp battery charger can take up to six hours for a full charge. Some assembly required, unless you live near one of the flagship stores in Seattle and Vancouver, or a city with mobile service. Fairly heavy at 69.6lbs without accessories.

*I bought this for my friend. She is about 5’3”. The **Latest.Bike** is pretty big, tall and a bit heavy, but robust and performs well. Highly recommend*
My wife has a 2019 Rad City. Out of the box perfect! She now has a couple hundred trouble free miles on it. Twice we called Customer Service. Both times the phone was answered promptly and the agent was polite, kind and very patient and resolved our issues. I have a much higher priced e-bike. If I had known about Rad then, I would be riding a Rad now. Nice e-bikes. Excellent build quality. Excellent experience.
This is my introduction to EBR, and I’m amazed at the level of detail, expertise, and production values in this review. I found every second filled with relevant and useful information. It’s by far the best review I have ever seen for any product on UA-cam. And I’ve been here since before Google owned UA-cam. Bravo.
Now I’m really eager to see and read more from EBR. This is the best way to go into making a big purchase decision.
At this price point .these Rad Bikes from what i see out there ,are the best for the money....And the quality is not bad at all .. And a American company ..
I have a Rad Rover, had it for 3 years. Have had zero technical issues. I got it to get something different from my regular non electric bike . It is fun , it's a work horse (heavy as one) also my first Ebike. Has been worth the money . Cons on my model ,no hydrolic disc brakes, small size for my 6'1 frame , not very stealth with that huge battery. Overall it's been a great buy .
David Keenan I’m 6’1 as well with a 34.5 inch inseam pants. Are you similar? Ever wish you had purchased a larger bike?
@@keith606 I'm trying to extend the handle bars to get more reach . This still is fun to ride
Looks like they revised the handlebars for 2020 so that they are more upright. Maybe you can get those.
You just sold two more of these, Thank you, Very informative.
Ebikes are so awesome. I don't own a car, so something like these are just excellent for the price. Cheap and effective
Ordered mine on May 23rd. Just got the shipping notice today July 15th. Finally ! I`m ready !
Thank you so much for the review and detail. I ordered this exact model (minus the back rack) on January 4 I should receive it very soon. It's my firsts Ebike. You showed some stuff no other reviewer talk about. I appreciated it a lot. Cheers
Please please make sure to buy a chain, D-lock, and another lock to prevent theft. Make it as hard as possible to steal because I've had to stab a guy before as he really wanted my bike.
@@josuem7398 lmao
Must suck to live ina shithole like that. :(
Coolzombi, how long did it take to receive your bike?
@@rosemarydolliver Once it was ship 5 days
how are you liking it?
Had my Rover for over a month and had no idea there was a strobe mode on the tail light! Nice...thanks.
me too
hokanut I also didn’t know that. What’s worse I thought my headlight was broken for about a year until I looked into it. I just sold mine for the same price I bought it for on “Letgo” .
Pretty cool rig for $1500, and a throttle too. I bought the Smartmotion Pacer about 3 years ago after your review, and it’s been good. I would have liked something more trail worthy though.
This thing is very trail worthy and half the price. Great job Court.
Great. Very informative review. Thanks to your RadRover reviews (years ago) I purchased a 2017 RR and cannot say enough good things about the bike. Made a lot of upgrades myself. Do it all ... MTB, off-road, sand and a lot of 101 paved road rides over on OR coast. My son and I signed up to ride on June 6 in the Unknown Coast Tour in Ferndale Ca. Will be riding my RR. Will share my results. Thanks again!
Great review ... detailed all the features but more importantly, explains reasons for design elements and their benefits.
Perfect for a clean and healthy world. I hope you can get those quality bikes here in Costa Rica because it is a dream come true to have one like that ❤👍❤
I've put almost 800 miles on my Rad City over the last three months. Rad Power Bikes make great bikes. Sometimes I wish I had got the RadRover.
@D Larson I think you are right. The Rad City is just about the right size.
I'm crossed on the radrover and the ripcurrent s. My wife has her mind set on the himiway. But as for me. I don't know yet. I greatly appreciate EBR! There reviews are very insightful.
Same here...
Same. Can't decide.
Great review. Thanks. Going to order two for my wife and I.
Gen 5 awesome bike and is just a beast, I don't really see any difference between, the older ones years 2018 2019the light and the maybe the fenders, love my new bike, not even one complaint
I Love my white Rad Rover Step Thru 1 . I have over 2000 miles off road mountain trail problem free .
I loved this bike it’s a great beginner bike. I put 580 miles on it from cruising the coast. If you just want to relax and enjoy the ride this is your bike. Unfortunately it started dropping power, 20mpg to 17mpg. I wanted something for mountain bike riding so I upgraded to a full suspension Lynx , rebel ebike 2020. I don’t regret getting the RAD ebike. Btw, very affordable ebike
Hey i think that you just need to replace the battery. If you put that many miles on it and possibley bring it hot places or cold places it degrades. If you buy a new battery for 550 itll work like new
How would you compare this bike to the Himiway Cruiser?
Nice review! I'm sold. I'm in the market for a new electric bike. I've seen a lot of these in NYC they look like they can handle the messed roads. I currently have Swagtron EB12 it's not a bad bike, but I run into a lot of problems with it.
Dude, what would you say they have improved from the previous versions that you have reviewed earlier? What other improvements (for the price ) would you have liked to seen but have not been implemented yet?
Would be nice if he answered this.
If you're worried about bottle cage locations, there's a good product on amazon which connects to the front of the rad bikes and holds it on either side of the bike under the handlebars. There's another guy who does the same thing but makes the water bottle angle adjustable and easier to grab, but they aren't on Amazon so I'll most likely forget about them. And they are $25 more.
Great review. You sold me on this ebike. The price is set perfect, not too expensive. I realize distance on a charge and speed are relative to rider weight and road condition, assuming a relative flat road, no off-road riding, rider being approximately 120 pounds, what is the max speed and distance on a full charge a rider could expect? Also, how easy is it to get parts locally, ie: tires, tubes, chain, etc.
First time bike purchase and I'm torn between mountain bike and e-bike. Suggestions? Mainly going to use it to explore the City and take it to the park.
Always great reviews from this guy!!!
Good video per usual. I do have a small technical tip. Since your camera records stereo sound, when you're behind the camera the sound is slightly skewed to the left (where you were relative to the camera). It's subtle, but it's more noticeable on headphones, especially when you switch from behind to in front of the camera.
Fix is easy, you can add an effect in Premiere called 'Fill Right with Left audio' (I'm sure there's equivalents in Resolve or FCP.)
I want this bike for a starter exercise bike. I weigh 350lbs. Will this get me out of the house with my kids this summer with some confidence once I start to lose more weight I can turn the peddle assist down. It is hard for me to ride any distance on a normal bike. I get winded and frustrated fast. Should I get this bike?
This is probably a good starter bike for you. Even if you don't get this exact bike, I recommend at least trying out an electric bicycle, and the fat tire ones tend to be a good fit for us bigger guys. I have a Rad City from 2017 that I ride maybe once a week (more if the weather is nice and I'm feeling motivated). It's got well over a thousand miles on it, which is a thousand more miles than I would have ridden if I didn't have the e-bike. I've had an ACL surgery on my knee in the past and with the electric assist, it's very comfortable to ride. With the various assist levels and twist throttle, you can get as much or as little exercise as you want, and still leave folks on regular bikes in your dust whenever you feel like it.
i think you should go with RipCurrent:lddy.no/dtp8
it has got both thumb throttle and paddle assist. Many post surgery people found this particular bike helpful. This is because it has got torque sensor(unlike cadence sensor) and will help you to ride smoothly and comfortably.Dont get me wrong here. The rad bike is good but given your case i would suggest you to get the RipCurrent. It is a great bike for exercise
Good review! But I concern about the wheels. Aren’t they too close each other? So when you pedaling and have to turn suddenly you may hit the front wheel with your foot 🦶, that will make you fall and injury really bad. I had that situation with other bike, and believe me it happen very easy.
1500 miles on mine no issues just new tires
Great review, thank you. I live in Michigan and would love to see what this thing could do on snow and sand trails.
How is the stopping with the disc brakes?. I have disc brakes of a none electric fat tire bike, stopping is no good,
I keep wondering whether I can get a good workout on an ebike with a cadence sensor. Can't quite figure this out. What do you think and how should I do this?
For food deliveries in the city, any benefit of having fat tires? Or is the RadCity a better choice for city food deliveries?
Very nice although I think an 11t might be wasted on an electric fat tire bike. That's a lot of weight and rolling resistance to overcome if you are trying to pedal past the motor cutout.
Anyone have an opinion on which bike is better....the Rad 5 or an iGO Core 2?
Can you take the fenders off?
Okay… how in the heck did you shoot the video for this?
Great review, man! Do you work for the company? I think you should! Your review really made me want to get this bike!
20mph top speed?
Just checking. I thought top mph was 28, no? Thanks for the detailed video. I'm currently in the market for a E-bike. And am crossing my T's and dotting my i's in search of the best bike for me. As it will be used everyday. Cars and trucks suck!
yes I've quit driving 4 years ago, used to drive 3 cyl Suzi Swift, that blew the head, my good 4 cyl swift went through stop sign and I got T boned by Hyundai Coupe, and the pigs were forever pulling me over for trivial shit, guts full of cars
I learned a lot of your review of the Rad Rover 5. How would you compare the RadRunner Plus on the same McKinney Falls trail? I’m from DFW and moving to the Blanco, Texas hill country in the coming year
Seems a lot of similarity with the BAM EW-SUPREME and Himiway Cruiser. Any idea if they are the same manufacturer?
You did not mention they can get a special seat post that flips up I really like my battery behind the seat it distributes the weight way better
At 3:49 Looks like fork seals are blown?
The Rad Power bikes in the States have 750W motors but the ones in
Europe have 250W. Is there a way to check which motor it has?
Do you have to have the bike on or can you peddle normally without the bike turned on
Man, what a GREAT review. Mine should be arriving this week. One question: converting these to tubeless? (As opposed to the armor option)
How difficult would this be to ride only peddling , with no assist?
Is the luggage rack strong enough for someone to sit on?
I live in NY.. Can i still use a bike like this in winter months? and how is the battery in cold to very cold weather?
Isn't that exactly the same frame as the ecotric it used to be called snow now they call it rocket bike? So maybe if someone could not afford it they could start out with a cheaper one like I did an add-on things like fenders and a rack? If you have an issue and you called rad bikes or email them do they help you is there any kind of service plan or guarantee? Is there a manual because there is no manual for my ecotric hammer? I need to learn how to do everything on in the ebike and I will. I really like my ebike I believe it is our future e-bikes automobiles
How would this compare to the quiet kat or Rambo style bikes. Seems like same specs. Little different style frame but there is about a $3k price difference?
Liked everything about it except I imagine that 19miles an hour will not be enough. Any of their bikes go faster?
Recommendations on a helmet?
Took delivery of a Rad Rover 5 on 9/25/2020. Found that the battery was defective. Contacted Rad Power Bikes product support team. They requested a video of the problem. I promptly sent a video and so far as of 10/02/2020, I have not been told if they plan to replace the battery with a new one. So I will reserve any negative comments about Rad Bikes customer service and hope for the best.
I hear a lot about temperature issues with the batteries can you expand on this like what temperature is to high... I own the 2020 radrover 5 and live in southeast Tennessee where from April to November our temps are in to 80's and mostly 90's most days... so blazing sun and heat is normal should I be concerned in 90 degree temps or are we talking about much high temps in the hundreds as built heat up during storage in a outside unit ?
Great review! I think the one I just ordered in forest green is a 7 speed. Canadian it cost me
2 thousand five hundred and something and, if I get what you have here, I’m jumping for joy...but
Forest Green is a limited addition and is the King Pin. Do a review for Forest Green RadRover5...or, is
the only difference the colour...not bloody well likely
So you can use the class 2 bike on trails and pathways in Austin?
Nice for the price. I think there was an old song "Rad rover Rad rover, send Missy on over."
it was red rover red rover send (name) right over
wish they were still available
Can these be used With throttle only?
Like a fatbike/scooter?
When did RadPower remove the throttle on/off button? And why?
How fast does it go? Thats pretty important....
Are you going to review Ariel riders new moped style (x-class)?
Great vid mate. Do you still do bike reviews?
Do you no where i could get an orange back rack for the rhino 5 step through i think it looks really cool on the white bike they are out of stock and apparently not getting anymore .
Yeh got to do it it looks great on the white Rhino thank you 👍
Update 4/2021: Rad Rover Price = $1700.00
That's the key !...... Rad is getting people into e-biking..... $999 ($1099 as of 4/202) for a Rad Mision Commuter bike as opposed to $3k or more for other brands..... I have a Rad Rover 2020 and couldn't be happier.... I expect that Rad will stick to their current sales/marketing model and continue to "sell across" not "Sell up".....naturally, it stands that they will continue to tweak/add features over time.......Sondors however, looks like they are beginning to move to more upscale offerings......hope that works for them
For someone like me , I am all out doors women but I would need a 3 wheel , do you make one or ever would , I am in Mo. moving back to gulf coast, & will want one ☝🏽
Hi Nawana! I've reviewed a bunch of trikes, including some fat tire ones, back at the site. Check this out electricbikereview.com/category/trike/
Good video buddy, which model would you say it’s the best one overall?
My 350 watt ebike burned out (over heated) the electric motor going up long steep hills. Now is pouched.
My concern is if this can take me up a long steep hill and not over heat the motor. How much to replace hub motor?
I think you are limited to no more than a 15% grade and staying under 500 watts to keep the motor from overheating.
Is it "hard" to maintain this kind of bike? Can i go faster then 25 kmh or will the motor brake me from doing more, will it just stop helping but i can go faster?
I am unsure if to get an crappy danish ebike that cost more for less good hardware but with maintainance support... Hmmm....
Would love to get this with front rack and large basket for my wee dog. :p
Euro ebikes are capped at 18 mph, don't go there
@@manFromPeterborough In denmark speedpedelec has been legalized but you need insurance and wear 45km/t approved helmets. :) Speedpedelec+s sold in danish shops cost at least 5500 usd.
Do you know how much I want this bike? Rad Power do you distribute this to Russia?
So do you need a license to ride these or no?? If no WOW!! I will buy one!!
Personal Experience with a Rad Power bike:
I bought a Rad Rover less than a year ago. The breaks were squealing since day 1 but they told me "that's how these bikes are".
Battery life went down from ~20 miles per charge to ~4 miles in about two months; had to replace the tubes a couple times so far and been adjusting the breaks on weekly basis, but that wasn't the worst part.
A thief broke into my apartment's bike cage last month and store my battery. I reported the incident to the Police Department and went to Rad's website to purchase a new battery, but they were out of stock. Called them and emailed them multiple times and explained how the battery got stolen and I can give them the Police case number. I told them how I use this bike to commute to work and unfortunately you can't purchase it from any other supplier but Rad itself. But all I got in respond was "we can't get our supplies from China"
So, here I am, having spend ~1,800 in less than a year with a piece of metal that can't move basically. Consider buying your e-bike from a more mature company imo.
Check out Bolton Ebikes. He does mods for these bikes. Can get an upgraded battery and controller. I never used him but seems like a good option. Good luck.
Where can you buy another seat in the back for another person for this rad rover 5 ?
Hydraulic brakes with 200 mm rear rotor?
Horn in light?
Do you happen to have a promo code that we can use to purchase a radpoweredbike?
Its in 3 commets up busdy3
I'm ok with no bottle rack, I'm only gonna take it off-road when necessary. Besides the idea is not to pedal! This bike would be like a Hummer in my hood. 😂 Take some air out of the tyres and she'd ride like a Cadillac.
Are these in GTA Online?
Yeah, I want one...
Hey could you do a review on fuell fluid e bike? It looks gorgeous and I didn’t know it existed. Looks kinda like riese and muller but only better, plus it’s way cheaper than euro bikes. I’m think of buying it and I want an honest opinion. Also if possible can you do a review of husqvarna too?
Thanks for the review! I've been wanting to sell my OneWheel XR and get something that won't keep putting me on the hospital. Im liking the range of features and the tech specs especially in this price range! Anyone have any other ebike suggestions I should check out?
lol yeah I was wondering about those onewheels.. look so fun but yikes. I ride motorcycles and have already had my fair share of crashes.
@@PhiTonics exactly lol. Some guy hit me on my gsxr750 a few years back and broke my c2 and c3 in my neck. I was so close to being paralyzed. Im looking for something safe!
Would this be good to do Uber eats, door dash, grub hub, etc on in the city of NY?
My exact reason for these searches as well.
With the front rack maybe. What did the government decide on for legality? I remembering them banning throttle ones at some point but they may have repealed that...
Emma H pretty much they capped it to the motor output of 250 watts max now and no longer 200 watts so that’s good.
@@Sennodev Ah, then you've probably answered your question since this is a 750 W hub motor. Depends on enforcement, of course, but not something I'd chance personally.
Emma H actually no I been reading a lot of these rules because there’s no exact definition for it in my state at least, everything just seems to contradict each with it when reading the regulations for ebikes, and of course it depends on law enforcements too, I’m guessing if I just abide by the rules I should be fine right ?lol
If you have one leg like I do you don't want to get down to two bars cuz it goes so fast and it was ridiculous but if you go slower you go farther I went 31 miles and had three bars which might have been in low 3 bars. I think they all should have a battery indicator with one bar that shows exactly where your battery is? I like my ecotric hammer because it has the cake stand in the middle why do they put these on the back? Maybe some of them should put like the old motorcycle ones you can put your rear Tire up and work on your gears. There's a place citizen cycle this guy went 1000 miles on his since 2018 or more I have come up on here with my bike I could believe they can't hear it because the zoom of the tires. I would like to have tires that are 26 by 4in road tires and I think it would go farther and change them out if you want to go dirt biking
Very cool video
Great video
Sweet bike
Thanks for a Grand Review! The handsome saddle bags at 19:31 do not appear in Rad website. Where should I look?
Hi Ron! Good question, maybe they are still updating the site with 2020 accessories? If you call or email, they tend to respond really fast. I'd love to hear if you get an answer back!
What's the difference between 500w vs 750w. Am in Canada.
It sounds like it’s probably the same motor, limited in software electricbikereview.com/forums/threads/radrover-canada-500w-vs-usa-750w-geared-motor.29726/

What's the mph?

Cool !
What's the weight of this bad boy?? Is it more than 50lbs?!? I cannot find the weight anywhere. Best weight for me would be between 25 and 50.

Thanks for the update on the Gen 5. Great review as always! Any changes from the previous models? Did you paint the rear rack yourself?
Wow! 0 miles on that odometer! That’s RAD!
How can I contact you guy's? I'm 6'5, and want this bike. The company suggested the city for my height, but reps told me I'd be okay with some additions. Do you have a fat bike recommendation for tall guys?
