      I've had my Rad Runner 1 since beginning of pandemic, absolutely love it. I'm in the process of changing my first tube. Finally had a flat. It's on the front tire so removing the tire is easy. Removing the rubber from the hub has proven to be quite difficult. I'm having to seek external help because my tire rubber is soooo rigid.

      Jeff Oaks In general Ebikes are heavy. After buying one that weighs 70 lbs I alway consider the weight important. Putting it on a rack, taking it up stairs, bring it into the house. One should consider the weight. If you can keep it around 50 lbs or less that makes a big difference.

    • @johnalex6309
      @johnalex6309 4 роки тому +2

      @@susanknee1187 Find a local shop that converts existing bikes using a mid-drive motor instead of a hub drive. You'll likely get more for your money and have solid support nearby. A great bike with ample range costs about $3,500USD here in the States ($4,500 with extra battery & accessories). Paying less will certainly deliver a disappointing product.
      Check out lunacycle.com/ for an example.

    I like how the official RadRover assembly video shows a guy lifting the bike out of the box almost effortlessly. Some serious false advertisement lol.
    I recently received the 2019 RadRover step-thru bike. My only complaint is I have to push it up and down 3 flights of stairs, 6 nights a week as part of my work commute. Still, this is nothing compared to the torture I previously had to endure on my work commute, which has long hills, and is often against the wind. Sometimes a very strong wind. 6 nights a week. I was starting to lose my mind. It was just way too much work, especially after a work shift.
    This bike is a godsend. I laugh at the wind now. It used to be my nemesis lol. Hills are effortless. What was a slow 15 min. crawl uphill is now about 1 minute. Exponentially better.
    I'm looking forward to seeing how well it does in the snow next year.

  • @chrisi1920
    @chrisi1920 4 роки тому +8

    Good list of add ons, I'd probably want about the same. Kick stand, definitely lock tight, I hate rattles as well. I assume the stand bolts are threaded into the bracket. If the locktite doesn't hold and the bolts protrude through the bracket, get longer bolts and put nylock nuts on the ends that stick through, they should never loosen. I'd also look at adding a foam stopper to the stand or chainstay tube to damp the rattle when riding.

    Use a crush washer , along with lock tight on the kickstand bolts . A couple of lock nuts wouldn't hurt either , and I bet you can get it all for under $2.00 at your local hardware store . That should fix it forever I would think . As for the noise it makes , maybe a rubber bushing of some sort could be implemented to stop that awful crashing sound it makes when the kickstand is used .

    I have the Rad Wagon and Yes the kick stand in it is really loud and now it doesn’t even hold up the bike. I have take. A couple of small tumbles,which I think bent it but no mater what I try it doesn’t help. I’ve looked at other Ebike ‘Y’ kickstands and the ones I think would work is $200+. For a kick stand! Also the wagons frame although mostly around tubes is fat tubes. No accessory usually fits and the worst is the Handle bars. Bought myself the Jones H bar 2.5. Installed today & what a difference. For 90$ bucks it’s worth it.

    I agree! I keep emailing Radpower and asking them why does aftermarket suppliers offer far more accessories than they do for their customers, like me! Always get the reply, "looking into it", not a good enough answer. #6 is not a good enough ratio on their chainrings! Had to change my front one, and still never use the derailleur after 2 years. These bike are not meant for hills due to weight, but speed yes! As for the kickstand, yes, I too had to use better heaver duty s.s. screws. Better allen bolt heads allowed more torque to be applied. After a year they have never come loose again, with lock washers also! Thanks again for a well done video post.

    I've had my two Radrover since 2016 and have around 3800 miles on each ebike. I did topeak rear rack, topeak MTX bag with fold out panniers, larger pedals, NiteRider Pro 3600 headlight, handlebar extender, handlebar adjustable stem, cell phone holder, suspension seat post, Cloud-9 seat, and upgraded the brakes to TRP. My top 5 are:
    5. PAS levels will only go up or down one level only with each push. I sometime hit the PAS button on rough pavement/trails and go down to PAS 0 or up to PAS 5 pretty quick.
    4. No blinking front light option. Had to add the handlebar extension to add a blinking light for riding in traffic work commuting.
    3. Brakes/derailleur always needs adjustments.
    2. PAS levels are too spaced out. 1 isn't enough and 2 is sometimes too much. Would like to have 7-10 PAS levels to dial in the assist needed (or even a PAS knob from 0-750 watts).
    1. Gearing is set for 20 mph, would like to have the option to pedal up to 25 mph with more gears on the front or rear sprockets

    When I was considering an ebike 2 years ago.. I was leaning heavily to the RadRover. But after seeing one in person.. and comparing it to a half dozen Haibike models that my local dealer let me test ride.. I ended up going for the Haibike. The only thing I wish it had comparing it to the Rad.. is a throttle. The Haibike is pedal assist only. But the torque is fantastic.. and I added a speed chip and can easily pedal 30MPH and I've even hit 40 down hill. I don't regret my decision at all. Mid-drive bikes are really nice. Oh.. and having ridden both.. I really dig the 3" plus size tires over the fat tires.

    Purchased Rad5 04-21. Contrary to your #5 dislike, I like the option to add my own assessories as apposed to the mgf. Added most of which you added in your video. With respect to the weight, not concerned even placing it in a bike rack, just use the rear brake method. Bike weights 93 pds, lift height 2.5' by 77 y/o. Weight on mtn roads makes the ride more stable and less bouncy. No question, this bike is "Rad".

    Yes, i am a 80's '90's kid.
    Mountain bikes were my thing. Specialized was my favorite. My handle bars were straight. Even back then, i had to modify shit to get lights, stereo, and other gizmos on.
    I feel stupid that i never thought of using ammo boxes as saddlebags. I bet those work amazing! Back in the day i hated front baskets. Today I've seen some mounts that i could probably get with. I like your back mount. To me, that says fishing box lol.
    In the 90's i used zip ties and different kinds of flashlights for a headlamps. I see today thats not a problem.
    I fractured my hip in the Army. I think this is a fine idea for me to still enjoy recreation and go with my daughters while they explore this world.

    I’m not fond of the kickstand either. I’ve been looking for a dual kickstand similar to scooter kickstands. I think the single kickstand is inadequate for this bike. Please reply if you find a dual kickstand for fat tire bikes.

    Appreciate your honesty. I ride a light aluminum mountain bike. I have l limited strength in my legs so getting started is a challenge. Unusually I start on an incline. Can you engage the peddle assist as soon as you crank the peddle?

    • @CitizenCycle925
      @CitizenCycle925  4 роки тому +2

      Pedal assist engages when the pedal assist sensors pass each other, so some times that can be almost a full rotation of pedals. Good thing about the Rad Rover is you can just twist the throttle if you need help taking off, no need to wait for pedal assist to kick in.

    Wish I could get the 750 watt model, only 500 watts here in Canada.

    I just took my Rad Rover 6 Plus out for 2 hours today. I live in an area with mostly hills, some steep. During a ride through a local golf course I came upon a medium in length, steep incline. I had it on easy pedaling (level 2-3) with pedal assist adjusted to 5, and nothing. I had to stop and walk the bike up the rest of the incline. I am not a strong rider - so this could just be me. This bike is a beast in weight. I decided to leave the course and go up other steep hills in my neighborhood. When I was in pedal assist 2-3, I still had throttle, but once I went to assist 5, I had nothing. I tried all different things with easy pedaling + assist 2, 3, 4....but once the hill became more steep, there was no assist on 5, OR no throttle with lower levels assist - nothing. I live over a very steep long hill, so now I am wondering if I just shouldn't have converted my mtn. bike to an e-bike since the RAD seems to be a dog.

      Did you resolve this issue with your Radrover? I have a 2016 model Radrover and I have PAS 5 and can use full power throttle up hills. I'm around 290 lbs and never had any issues work commuting (5000 feet down to 4900 feet) or riding my Rover in the Sandia foothills (6000-7500ft).

      @stevenrichvalsky9602 you'll probably need to unlock it with the key to remove it. if it's still stuck it could be one of the screws that mounts the battery cradle to the frame could be getting hung up on the underside of the battery

    Hi. I bought my (Dutch) RAD Rover last December. Done 1100 km's on it. Kickstand no problems. Bought a phone holder that doesn't stick on the handlebar probably because of the declining width.
    Concerning the weight, and this is just my theory so correct me if I'm wrong: RaD wanted to make a chaper bike so use cheaper materials. So no fancy chrome/molybdeen frame or something, just cheap and simple aluminium. That might be light in itself but is less strong than steel. So you need more alu to get the same strenght as with steel and that adds weight (when you use conventional build technology). I think you can get an electric somewhat similar bike to a RAD with a fancy frame made of nice materials...and than you pay double the price. Do you want that? No? Then we are stuck with this. And lets face it: it;s not that the weight is slowing us down. ;-)
    Regards from The Hague. Mark.

    Sounds like you don't want an ebike. All ebikes are heavy due to contollers and batteries, etc. Also, what bike did you ever buy that came with a water bottle holder? There are places on bikes to attach accessories, but bikes don't normally come with them. As far as handlebars go, no bike is going to be able to handle a ton of accessories on them them. The Rad Rover is a great bike for the price. The price would most likely double for everything you want done to it.

    • @josephsmith7148

      All ebikes are not heavy, my Turbo Levo FSR Comp 6Fattie weights 50 #s and is an incredible hill climber and great for downhill too. It's incredibly comfortable too, it's the bike I was looking for all my life. Don't give me it's expensive, quit flipping burgers and get a real job. /0 0\

    LOL.. no doubt ol' CitizenCycle got a few $views. I just bought one. Love it. Radrover has service response. Couple of things after I put it together. 1. The rear fender touched the accessory rack i bought. Scratched the fender. All it took was to push the fender down to flex/bend the fender arms a touch. Fixed. 2. The front brakes drag.. They say not to back them off more than a few clicks.. once they break in (50 miles).. that will stop. so I was told.

    I own the RAD MINI and it weighs 78 lbs. My bike weighs 120lbs now. I have four new batteries and good lights, blinkers, and brake lights and much more. I ended up using 74 wires to solder, 8 plugs / outlets. I had a rear video and that ended up sucking, being $200. I just bought mirrors, my first one sucked. My original battery won't mount on a new rail; I am going to buy one more battery to replace the original. Mine is a tank, lol... I plan on driving 150 miles. I have done 112 miles already. I would like a new bike, price 7,000… I also want 72 volt instead of 48 volts. More the amps, more I can drive. I also put good nuts because of kick stands. Thanks!

      @@CitizenCycle925 Thanks for the response but you have lost me. Are you saying that a 750 watt motor doesn't have to be swapped out with a 1200 watt motor but only needs a controller that can deliver more juice to the 750 watt motor to output 1200 watts? If that's the case, then what is the maximum power output of the so called 750 motor? Or, why isn't the 750 watt motor not called as a 1200 watt motor?

    • @CitizenCycle925
      @CitizenCycle925  4 роки тому +1

      @@tyronekim3506 you can just swap out for the controller and run more power to your 500 or 750 watt motor. You don't need to swap the motor. Some people have said it burnt up their motor other people said it's fine. I haven't had any issues with mine yet. I'm guessing it will probably be fine unless you overwork it, like trying to go up a steep hill using just the motor and not pedaling.

    How is a cop going to know if my bike is 1000w? Cuz I live in New York and I ordered one and I'm going to ride it

    • @exgenica
      @exgenica 4 роки тому

      Check NY's laws about ebikes. It should tell you some things that would help answer this. For example, in some states if your bike is manufactured in or after Jan 2019 then it may have to have a "Class" sticker 'prominently displayed'. As long as the cop doesn't have cause to stop you and look at the details on the sticker then he or she still won't know for sure. But the sticker may declare the motor's wattage. You may also be asked for the info and lying to a cop is illegal, but then of course you don't necessarily have to answer any questions they ask. Some cops may have researched ebikes...may even own one...so may have an idea of the power based on observation, but in these times of "defunding" etc the police may not care all that much about ebike power levels. Your chances of being pulled over probably increase in states where the law says bicycle registration is mandatory and cops can pull you over to check on it at any time. Probably also depends how much attention you draw to yourself.

    No. 5... I like the fact that it DOES NOT come with the add-ons because I may have to purchase items I don't want and it allows me to purchase the items I do want to add to the bike. With the seat, like you say, it comes with a pretty good seat, you prefer the more cushy seat. Great!!! But I know from riding long distances (100 to 200 miles) that the seat you have can create chafing. Chafing is horrible if you are riding long distances, so again, these are choices that each person must make on their own bike.
    No. 4... Pretty cool that you modified it to be faster. I'm much older now, so how it came would be fine with me.
    No. 3... Weight. Yeah. Makes it hard to pick up and mount for travel. Does seem to be overbuilt, but man it is STURDY. Ha!!!
    No. 2... Wow! You did a great job finding ways to attach things where you could. KUDO's!
    No. 1... Yeah. Kickstand shouldn't come loose and rattling would be irritating.
    In my opinion, Rad Power Rover is a damn good electric bike. Question: How is it for Mountain dirt roads?

    Honest video, though I view being overbuilt as a plus. I bought the Radmini 4 so I can put it in the car, and my only gripe so far is every accessory I want is sold out and unavailable. I realize this is a result of the company's success, but not being able to get accessories from them, and having stern warnings about accessories not from them, makes for some difficult decisions. Do I really want to carry a gallon of milk in one hand for two miles? Do I fire up the car and drive to the school that I can almost see from my backyard because I can't buy a passenger seat? Do I go ahead and buy a 110 lb capacity rear rack instead of the 40 lb capacity factory rack which is not available, and risk the moon imploding at the sheer horror of my atrocious actions? 😉
    Seriously though, at least I have some time before school starts, if it does start this year. It's a 15 minute drive by car, winding through the neighborhood, but only 0.35 of a mile riding a fatbike across the grass of the park behind our house.
